Our BGO Classic Redskins Photo Banner

WTF is going on in this photo - that is Riggo, right? But George Allen, and who are the other folks pictured?

I did think it might be Roy Jefferson.... the lady is definitely checking out Big John (maybe wondering where the nickname came from?)

Portrait of Washington Redskins Calvin Hill (35), John Riggins (29), head coach George Allen, QB Pat Sullivan (15), and Jean Fugett (84) posing on sidelines before preseason game vs Baltimore Colts at Memorial Stadium. Baltimore, MD 1976

So that photo was the 1976 free agents signed by Allen. I have no idea who the woman is. Madonna? 🤣

I had totally forgotten if I had ever known, that Riggins ever wore anything but #44.

This is going far back into the recesses of my consciousness but I recall that when Riggins signed with Washington he was originally listed as a half-back and Allen later decided to make him a fullback and gave him #44 ostensibly to block for Calvin Hill.

The irony lost on all of this is Calvin Hill's signing in 1975 from the WFL was considered more important than Riggin's acquisition as a free agent from NYJ.

Hill in fact was over the hill and was soon out of the NFL while Riggins of course became a centerpiece for Gibbs as did Theismann and Dave Butz, other George Allen acquisitions that were given depth roles when they first came here.

Allen had a good eye for talent but not necessarily a good sense as to when veteran starters were done and younger faces on the bench needed to start to get on the field.

I honestly had forgotten that it was Allen who brought Riggins to DC… guess I remember Gibbs bringing him back from ‘retirement’… George loved his Over-the-Hill-Gang guys for sure.

The Kenny Houston trade was one of the best in team history. A Hall of Fame and Century player at safety acquired for a basket of players and picks that were for the most part forgettable.

I never agreed with giving uniform #27 out to anyone after Houston was enshrined in the Hall of Fame, much as I liked Brad Edwards in 1991

Added about 50 new images to our banner library showing some of the new folks (coaches and players) as well as some photos related to the ownership change. Always looking for great shots as we head through the rest of camp, preseason, and of course the regular season. We prefer to use landscape style photos when possible as they display better...

Lol. That's a tall order....but I can try and do it as I see them...

Added 20 more banner images this morning. Please keep your eye out for great Redskins/WFT/Commanders images and post them up in this thread if you come across them. Thanks to Miles Monroe for his work in the background producing new images. Ideally, we have the greatest shots over every season to represent the most memorable moments of this franchise.

Added over 500 images today in a mega-upload. There will be a lot of new faces and new photos to go with them in the coming months. Please assist us by posting up great photos in this thread.

As we continue adding to our rotating banner image library, I ask for your assistance over the coming months in finding great photos of our many new coaches and players in action.. Landscape photos always preferred, but all contributions posted in this thread are appreciated. We probably have the largest repository of Washington Redskins photos anywhere - and it's a unique feature of the site that is just way we are special. I will take any help you all can provide!

Hey Tom - thank you brother… when it comes to classic Redskins photos I think you all would be hard pressed to find ones we don’t already have. What I really need help with are photos of players we are adding and new coaches…

So I just said what I said and I’m not sure I’ve seen that one of choo choo - awesome
