Our 2018 starting QB will be....

I don't know how many have ‘predicted' Smith would be the Redskins QB. I think many have suggested we could do far worse and that he wouldn't represent much of a drop off from Cousins. I agree with that take.

No idea if he is available or what the cost might be.

Alex Smith did this afternoon what he has done throughout his career - come up small when the stakes are the highest.

Up 21-3 at halftime at home against a rather mediocre Tennessee team, the Chiefs offense came out and scored ZERO points in the last 30 minutes.

It was classic 'el foldo' by Smith and Chiefs' coach Andy Reid in the postseason.
 
That's ONE player.

I think the cases of the Redskins and Giants where they had almost ALL of their skill players from earlier in the season on IR are a bit of a different case.

Don't forget that the Titans were also playing without DeMarco Murray and with the way the Chiefs failed to stop the run a healthy Murray could have really helped to gash that defense early on.

The Chiefs still had Kareem Hunt in the game but never schemed to get him involved in the short to intermediate passing game once Kelce went out to give their offense a boost.

But again, Smith has had meltdowns like this in the past once playoff time comes rolling around.

That was the reason I mentioned it.

If he had been a guy that was clutch in the past but had an off game then I wouldn't have brought it up.

The Chiefs looked a lot like us, in a way. An offensive scheme so fragile that it can't sustain a threat, when just one player goes down. How many times has Rice Paper Reed gone down, in a game, and our offense came to a screeching halt. Because our one trick pony of a head coach can't figure out how to install, and use, an efficient run game. And has no clue what a "plan b" is in the passing game.

Of course, it could be that he lacks a QB who can execute what his "plan b" is.
Who knows.

I don't think there's a QB that makes more sense than Colt McCoy, to start the season, if #8 walks.

I've basically resigned myself to the notion that that's probably what's going to happen and knowing the way Bruce and Danny think, we're probably drafting whoever's there between Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson.

That's a stupid tweet by a lazy, agenda-driven 'journalist'. It's not up to the team whether Cousins is in DC - it's up to Kirk. It's a totally false premise.

Colt is 31. That used to be considered approaching the twilight years for a QB. He's probably a pretty young 31 though - given all the time he's spent on the bench. I like Colt, as I'm sure the Skins staff does. But I don't know that they view him as a long-term starter. His arm is pretty suspect. He's not a guy you hear folks say 'He can make all the throws' about. He's also shown a propensity to get hurt - so I'm not sure he can be counted on as a long-term starter.

And because of all that - the Redskins will have to draft or trade for another QB if Kirk leaves. Doesn't mean it's impossible Colt could seize the starter role and never relinquish it. But I don't think you can bank on that if you're the Redskins based on what we currently know about McCoy.
 
Correct sir. Colt has not shown the durability #8 has. Just have to cross our fingers on that. We should draft a QB regardless of who the starting QB is in 2018. Need a young guy to groom, at the very least.

And, it's also correct that it's up to #8 whether or not he'll be here. Unfortunately for us, his agent is calling all the shots. And #8 shows no signs of disobeying his agent.

The agent wants to set the record for highest NFL contract.
 
I've already resigned myself to starting over at QB. I hope that doesn't turn out to be the case, but I think the odds that Cousins signs a reasonable deal are slim to none.

It is what it is. And it will be what it will be.
 
McCoy will start the season and Mayfield will be groomed.

I only see four potential teams ahead of us that need a qb- Browns, Giants, Broncos, and Jets. I bet Denver goes FA for one. So...we have a chance.

Well, depending on what happens with Broncos - I think they are in the mix, as are the Bengals, and maybe even the Dolphins. I think Mayfield will be the 3rd QB picked unless things change prior to the draft (which they certainly could).

Honestly this kid at #7 , Luke Falk sounds exactly what we need to sit behind Colt for a year. Tall like Mix, & accurate as Robin Hood
 
I'll be surprised if the Bengals move on from Dalton with Marvin Lewis staying. I also don't think Miami moves on from Tannehill this year and that Elway is tired of trying with unproven qbs.

Cousins would work well in Denver.

Darnold, Rosen, Allen should (at this point) be the first three taken.
 
After last night, anyone still think Cousins is comparable to Brees? Especially when it's clutch.

The point in comparing Cousins to Brees was to point out that even great Qbs need help.

Drew Brees has proven he needs a team around him.

This is useless, really. Brees couldn't succeed here anymore than Cousins could.

And that sucks.
