Official NASCAR Thread

I do that Halloween gag every year. A different pic each time, but the message is the same. :)

Tomorrow is the wild card. Denny and Kyle had two car runs together in the practice sessions - the only cars to to top 200 (201, Mark Martin was next fastest at 197). Wonder if they have something figured out. Logano's car could be strong too and could help either one.

Meh, I shoulda known that by now. I remember it now that you mention it.

And yeah, I'm sure they have something figured out. Probably how to out-cheat Chad. ;)

Way to stay classy Kyle Busch by flipping off a NASCAR official..... He drives me crazy....

Ryan Newman became a father a short time ago. Her name is Brooklyn Sage Newman.

Congratulations to NASCAR as a whole! This was an exciting Race for the Cup!

Congratulations to the 48 team! Unbelievable!

Congrats to Denny and the boys in the 11 as well! Great job! Tough day for them but 8 wins and 2nd in the standings ain't all bad either! Now let's go back to Chevy's so I can feel comfortable about rooting for JGR!

Congrats to Carl Edwards, Roush, and Ford for two wins in a row. Think the Ford teams are developing their new engine nicely and will be a force next season.

Hendrick has a major shakeup of crew chiefs. Dale Jr. with Letarte. Jeff Gordon with Gustafson. Mark Martin with McGrew.

And more...

5 and 24 will share the same facility. 48 and 88 will share the other facility.

Jr. got the pole at Daytona, but...

He was involved in a multi-car crash in practice a few minutes ago. He will go to a backup car and start from the back on Sunday.

If it wasn't for bad luck...

just when i thought it was safe to talk trash to HH...

seriously...lol

You're a good sport, bro. I would've missed this entirely if you hadn't manned up and pointed me to it. lol.

Like I said on FB though, I still feel pretty good about his chances in the 500. Heck, anymore, a lot of guys *coughcarlcough* tend to hang out back there at plate tracks anyway, and make their move toward the front late in the race. I can't think of anyone that would have a better shot at doing that than Jr. would.

And NASCAR tends to be almost storybook in the way things happen sometimes. It's like the racing gods know what would make for the best story; something every fan, no matter their team, can embrace. Even though I'm not an 88 fan, if he fights his way back and wins the race Sunday, on the 10th anniversary 500 of Sr.'s passing, I'll probably get choked up myself.

One last time before it becomes all business. I like Jr. as a person. I respect him for handling the pressure he's got on his shoulders. I admire the way he handled his dad's death, and the fact that 200 times, yet again, on Sunday he'll pass that very spot, balls to the wall, trying to live up to a name that's larger than life.

He's also good for ratings. If he's running well consistently, the ratings will skyrocket. Higher ratings mean more sponsorship dollars. More dollars means more opportunities for guys to be legitimate competitors in this sport. And more legitimate competition means a better product. Hence, Jr.'s success is good for all of us.

In my ideal world, Jr. tears it up early in the season. NASCAR explodes in a way we haven't seen for a while. He makes the Chase. He leads the Chase for 9 races.

On the final lap at Homestead, he and Carl are tied for first in the standings. And it ends with a clean, door-to-door sprint to the finish. Carl wins by the length of Kyle's *censored*, about two inches. Everyone but Mike goes home happy. :)

Actually Mike, I saw a report the other day that some are questioning if Jimmie's success has hurt the sport. I am not buying it, but if I recall correctly, the TV viewership has dropped off over the last few years even though it remains a top spectator sport.

saw a cool article on CNN about it being the 10th anny of Sr's passing and how they still havent found anyone who can fill his shoes. sure Jimmie has the wins and Jr has the fame but nobody has stepped in there and just put it all together like Sr did.
Faster speeds don't allow the dirty driving that propelled Sr. to his lofty status.

Today, the sport has become much like farming. Family farmers can't compete against the power of the cooperate farmers.

i.e. Jimmy (Coorporate) Johnson

i cant say i disagree there except the "dirty" part. he wasnt dirty..just aggressive.

did you see the busch cars were hitting 202 and the cup cars 206? theres NO way they allow that to stay like that for the big race.
At best I might say, "Carelessly aggressive without giving a hoot in hell what happened to the guys he purposely put into a wall, or other vehicle, all the while convinced he was exempt from such treatment."

Dirty, is just a quicker way to say/spell it. ;)

NASCAR is slowing the cars down with smaller restrictor plates. The change in water temp valve will have an affect on the race as well, since cars will have to get out line to cool down.

Will catch bits and pieces of Daytona, but don't consider restrictor plate tracks as real racing.

NASCAR has gotten away from it's roots. The COT may be safe, but now all the cars look the same. I miss the day when you tell the Fords from the GM cars and Dodges.

youre view of dirty is my view of doing what it takes to win....
Even if it could likely get someone killed isn't "what it takes to win", IMO, it's a total disregard for anyone's safety but your own. But, since most watch for the wrecks, he was a King, because he was responsible for so many.

if everyone could do it and win then everyone would... ;)
Maybe.

If all women had to bend over and give up the booty to any man who told her to, everyone would do that too. Wouldn't make it right. ;)

uhh...what?

Im not sure what you mean in the last part about women...

and honestly, you dont really think that he was king because of wrecks, right? 7 championships, the man brought merchandising to the game and he had/still has one of the biggest personalities to ever hit nascar.
The part about women was another, "if we could do it and get away with it" to compare to your statement that if all drivers could get away with dale's style of driving, they would. Tongue in cheek, my friend.

And, of course he didn't get to where he was just because of wrecks. But he didn't get called the Intimidator for nothing. Part of the appeal for him was knowing he would put people into the wall, or infield, or another freakin planet, if he needed to get around them. He also whined when someone did it to him. His reckless style made him, and he was allowed to get away with it cause he made Nascar, and other drivers, more money. It was dumb luck that he never killed anyone.

Early on, he was given leeway on the track cause everybody figured he'd be dead soon, cause he was so damn reckless. He was dangerous. That's what made him popular, and led to much of his success.

When Kyle Busch does "whatever it takes to win" at Richmond, Mike, your opinion is a little different. ;)

Seriously, I think we all tend to be OK with what our drivers do. Or at least, we're less objective about our guy. I know I am. It took me until the Tuesday after "the" wreck at Talladega, to admit it wasn't Keselowski's fault.
