That was the number he drove when he won the busch series championships though, if I remember right. At least he had some personal history with it. That was just a one time deal, here is a quote from him after that race "I was so worried that I wasn't going to win, because nothing but winning was good enough," Earnhardt said. "If you didn't win, what a waste of time. I worked hard to try to win it, not only for Daddy, I am proud of him going into the Hall of Fame, and he would be proud of this, I'm sure."

There is a glimpse of the pressure he puts on himself......


Back on track, with the points change AGAIN I am to the point where they are not getting anymore of my money. I may catch a race on tv here and there, but that is it.
 
NASCAR does not retire numbers and the 3 is owned by Childress - it is his to do with as he pleases. I've always seen it as being more of his number than Dale's and can remember the old Kansas Jack, CRC, Ronnie Steele, Black Gold, Piedmont Airlines, and UNO cars - amongst others.

I can understand the sentiment, but team owners should have a say and if RC wants the 3 to run, then that is his prerogative.
 
I do understand it, but don't agree with that sentiment. That is how NASCAR has always been and I tend to be old school on this subject. Always thought that the 3 should've come back in 2002. Harvick did really well in that ride.

My favorite racer ran that number too for RC and brought him the first two victories as an owner (first two for RR as well). Dillon is not a favorite by any stretch, but I like the 3 being on the track again.
 
The racing was the best in a long time. We'll see how the changes to this car performs at other tracks in the coming weeks.

Impressive run by Denny when you consider he had no radio the last third of the race. He had to stay back, be careful, make judgments without a spotter, and charge forward only at the end with the hope of not crashing. That car was the best this past week, but those are the breaks.

Stewart Hothead Racing had a rough night.

With this being the last race at Daytona for Terry Labonte and with Mark Martin being retired now, the old guard is passing on. In the next five to fifteen years, a "new" old guard will fade away too.

Not sure how many accidents Austin Dillon caused last night, but pretty sure that Harvick will have a thing or two to say to him on the track when needed.

My uncle and cousins were there for all of speed weeks. Constantly giving them weather updates via text yesterday and last night.

On to Phoenix.
 
All of the teams are still out in the desert and doing what is known as the "Swap Meet". Teams brought extra trucks to the southwest for the back to back races at Phoenix and Las Vegas (this Sunday). The Phoenix cars were brought in the regular haulers and extra haulers were used for the Vegas cars. Yesterday and today is when the "Swap Meet" happens. The Phoenix cars are being loaded on the extra haulers and will head back home now.

JGR used one hauler to bring all six Vegas cars for the three teams and is now on its way home with Phoenix cars. Here is a pic of yesterday's "Swap Meet".

Tuesday evening, the annual parade of haulers cruised down the Las Vegas Strip with police escort. The parade is joined in progress with this video.

 
Hearing that Denny Hamlin's vision has actually gotten worse over the last couple of hours. Going to keep checking a couple of sources for future updates.

Never like to hear that about a guy.. i hope everything is ok. I heard sinus infection but had to head out shortly after the race started, have they found it to be a more serious issue?
 
Looks serious. He went to the infield doctor last night and got antibiotic eye drops, oral antibiotics, and a decongestant. The blurry vision got worse this morning and he could not drive. He should be ok in a few days. Sinus infections can be nasty.
 
Bobby Waltrip, the middle brother of Darrell and Michael has passed away.

Shawna Robinson has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Denny Hamlin has been cleared to race this weekend.
 
dang, not a good time right now in the world of Nascar...
 
The stands at Martinsville look pathetic, I remember busch races used to have more people there. Watched it for about 20 minutes then switched over the college basketball
 
Casey Mears will think twice about messing with Marcos in future. Unlike most other drivers, who are just full of piss-and-wind, Marcos connected with a right hook, but with all the hangers-on hanging around, it didn't do any damage as it bounced off a few before reaching it's final destination.

As Mike knows, you don't mess with an Aussie!
