Official Game Thread - Week 9 - Commanders @ Giants

The Giants with their kicker reminds me of Rivera and his long snapper.
 
These games serve one purpose to me at this point - calibrate what this team is.

At this point I see 3 options
- the team handily beats them - that’s not a score issue that’s an eye test issue. For instance I think we handled the bears for the vast majority of 60 minutes and the final score and last 60 seconds don’t indicate that.

- they win, but it’s a struggle. The teams appear evenly matched by the eye test

- they find a way to lose.

Lots of talk and buzz about things like nfc seeding, what trades would make them a better contender this year, rankings on different aspects of the teams …

Which one of those three outcomes tells me the truth about this team. The wildcard, cause there always seems to be a wild card when discussing certainty, is division matchups make things odd sometimes.

But they are not a good org. They are not a good team. Their QB has fallen to a point where it’s unclear whether he should be (or for how long he will be) the starting quarterback.
 
We need to put a solid beat down on them tomorrow. No doubt. Get a lead early and don't take our foot off the gas. They have had our number for too long
 
Glad he is OK but wish he would have waited until next week to get better.

I think it’s important to remember every game in the NFL is different, and drawing a conclusion about a team after any given game is not a great idea.

Baltimore just lost to the Browns. With Jaemis Winston playing QB. Does that make them a bad team? No. Are they still probably the second favorite to represent the AFC in the SB? Yes.

Good teams have bad losses and bad teams have good wins.

The reason this game is important is less what it says about the team and more that it gives them a 7-2 record and 2-0 in the division with a swoop of the Giants.

That means, baring a complete and total collapse, they should be in the playoff hunt almost no matter what into December.

Drawing bigger proclamations about the team any which way I think is dangerous.
 
What’s important about this game is changing the mindset. New York “knows” it will win every time the play Washington. That confidence has translated into them playing better against us than pretty much every other opponent they face.

Jones sees our colors and just relaxes. Against us, he’s a Pro Bowl first ballot HOF QB. He owes us a percentage of his contract for helping to deceive the Maras.

That needs to stop.

Luckily, neither Quinn or Witt bare that scar tissue. They’ve played the Daniel Jones every other team has faced. Maybe they can break the bad cycle.
 
The past is irrelevant because the players and coaches here are different. When I hear a radio guy talking about losing to the Giants in games in 2020 my thought is the guy is trying g to fight not the last war but the one before that 🤣

From watching the Eagles and Steelers play the Giants the past couple of weeks, there are things the eye says to do and not do against this team on Sunday.

I think these coaches are smart enough to interpret what they see and what mistakes Pittsburgh made to allow the final score in that game to be closer than it should have been.

What I took away from the Eagles game is how aggressive Philly was and how they went out and took some risks to make big plays, risks the Giants didn’t think they would take and ended up getting caught flat-footed on.

As far as Washington history is concerned, win or lose, we are in a new era here.

As Stephen A. Smith said ‘ Jayden Daniels makes you look at each Commanders games differently now that we see what he is capable of doing.’

Trent Scott is a perfectly fine 3rd string tackle.

If your 3rd string tackle is playing, you’ve got a problem.
 
Please please please have a different plan for when we're in the redzone this week. Stop bunching up, use the full width of the field. Spread out the defense to pull them away from the box.

I would be satisfied if there simply were no unforced errors. False starts and illegal man downfield for example.
 
This week to me is all about coaching. After the emotional high of last Sunday, it is reasonable to expect a team to maybe come out flat the following week. The coaches need to stress urgency and we can't be complacent. 6-2 is great, but we have not arrived or accomplished anything quite yet. I am particularly interested in seeing how hungry the team is this afternoon.

That would be nice, too. Get down there and just sweep the leg. Don't get cute where you're fighting the play clock just to run into the middle of the line.
 
If Brian Robinson can’t go or is limited, they need to stick to the run but use McNichols and Ekler. Both are good enough. They just have to keep at it regardless of who’s in there.

Ironically, one of their red zone bugaboos has been not being able to run the ball well in the red zone.
 
Judging by many on-field opinions of his warm-up…BRob looking like a no go.
