Official Game Thread: Week 8 - WFT at Denver

OK, I don't understand why you throw a 2 yard out on 3rd and 16. And then he throws it out of the back of the end zone on the last play. WTF?

The defense finally holds an opponent under 20 points and the offense is a no show. Lame.


At least my alma mater beat Michigan yesterday, so I still have a good team to root for.

I want this team to draft a QB with its 1st round pick but I have 0% faith they can positively develop him.

Also having trouble believing in RR’s ability to prepare them for a game. Same shit…different day
 
Scott Turner is a lousy OC and doesn't have a clue about giving his offense an identity.

Have no idea why JDR can't get this defense to play.

Don't know if Hurney and Mayhew have it within them to fix this roster. But they just got here so the jury's still out.
 
That game was pretty much the nail in the coffin for any hopes I had of turning the season around.

Horrible play calling
Heinicke is regressing
Rivera has no fire in him.
Our new kicker can't get the ball more than 6" off the ground
Collins celebrating a hit when we are losing the game

I just don't see where we turn it around. This team is missing on every side of the ball.
 
The defense overall on the season has taken a big step back against a fairly strong crop of teams we have faced thus far.

The 2021 draft class is contributing next to nothing outside of good play in spots from St. Juste and a now injured Cosmi.

The 2020 draft class is experiencing a major sophomore slump - in particular Young and Gibson.

The 2021 free agency class is non-existent in terms of contributions.

The QB play in 2021 is not significantly improved from 2020.

Should we really be all that surprised that this season is going no better than last at this stage?
 
I became obvious to me watching Ron Blewitt’s presser last night that Kyle Allen will be the starting QB coming out of the bye.

He said that every position would be looked at critically but I took it as he was talking primarily about the QB position. I wonder if coaches are going to be held to that same review. Turner’s playbook may be outstanding overall, who really knows, but calling plays that the QB can’t execute due to limited physical skills is assinine.

This team has been struggling with a high number of injuries but so have the last three teams it has faced.
 
I really, really hope that this franchise doesn't start playing the injury card. They are part of the game. Yes, they have started piling up the last couple weeks, but the fact is we have played bad football for 2 months. The team is terrible right now for reasons that extend well beyond the injury bug. We cannot maintain the status quo going into '22, hoping that a few guys who return from injury, as well as bounce backs from guys who have had down years will make all the difference. That is too simple an explanation when you have bottom fed for the better part of 30 years.

All of that is correct and highlights an organizational failure.

My take is that Rivera has not taken the heat yet that most other head coaches would due primarily to the fact that he is a high character human. He has surrounded himself with only those that he has had a previous professional relationship with. I doubt that there is another ‘Carolina connection’ that can bail him out of this abyss.
 
I'm not sure if having cancer put life in to a different light for Ron, but his intensity is just gone. He's a statue on the sidelines. Even when he threw the challenge flag for JDs first down he didn't get fired up.

I have always been a supporter and fan, but something with him isn't right. He doesn't have the same fire he has had in the past.

I wouldn’t read into that. He was never a fiery coach in Carolina. He always had a stoic look on his face most of the game. He’s never been a coach spitting fire and brimstone on the sidelines. I can’t comment on if he has lost any fire, but I can say that he has always looked the same way on the sidelines during games.
 
Well have to agree to disagree then. I've always noticed he had fire to him and held people responsible
 
It’s like the team is mirroring the owner/bombshell stigma. Like the players realize what a shitty owner we have so other than a handful of players it’s like they hit the field and decide “meh”.

Whatever Ron’s approach has been thus far is definitely NOT working. Did they forget how to coach? Is it a lack of discipline & accountability thing? Does everyone in the building know Dan’s about to be forced out and there’s uncertainty of where they’ll be effecting their play?

The personnel department has got to get better considering the 2021 FA’s and draft, everyone outside of Cosmi & St Juste are teetering towards awful.
 
Even if Jamin Davis was playing balls out…

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a young QB that could hit a receiver in stride more than 5 yards downfield?
