Official Game Thread - Week 5 - Titans @ Commanders

That was the best game that Wentz has played this season and Washington still lost....at home....to a Titans team with a poor defense and no pass rush.

Not a good omen for the future. This team may not win 3 games.

Agree. Too many unforced errors in this one. Should’ve been a ‘W’.

The worst and most frustrating part of the wasted Rivera timeout that could have come in handy down at the goal line was the fact that is followed two straight incompletions on 2nd and 3rd and 1. An easy choice would have been to try and push the pile with the run.

Instead, desperation took over for Ron. And go figure, after all of that, Turner goes and runs it for a 1st down on 4th down. 😑

Today was a huge blemish for the coaching staff.

Commanders only team below .500 in division.

This is getting ugly fast at 1-4.

Eagles 5-0, Cowboys 4-1 largely without Dak.

Lost by 2 TD margin to both.

Wentz doesn’t protect the ball consistently and appears to be the kind of starter that is worth half of his $28M salary.

$28M implies you can make SOME plays on your own to help the team compete to win.

$14M is more in the range of a game manager who can put up decent stats if everyone is healthy and ready to play.

Why do we expect a coach who had 2 good years outta a decade to become a winner? None of this should be shocking to be clear, fire Ron tomorrow.

Wentz very well may not be the answer, and I understand that.

Thing is, I have far less confidence in Turner than I do in Wentz... call me crazy.

Wentz sucks at play-action. The evidence is overwhelming, as I showed you in that analytics article.

If you want more creativity in the play-calling, then you need a better athlete at QB. Like Heinicke.

At 1-4, does Heinicke in all seriousness get this team to go 9-3 the rest of the way and put them in a position to sneak into the playoffs? Given the serious deficiencies within other units on this team, we all know the answer to that.

If Wentz sucks so bad to the point that it lands Washington in the #1 overall pick in the 2023 draft and gives us an opportunity to draft the top QB prospect, he will have served as potentially the most important Washington acquisition in recent memory I suppose .

Honestly, I don't see what trotting Heinicke out there to win a few games here and there does.

The team will never intentionally tank. At this point though, being bad enough to pick 1st is maybe the only thing left to try at turning this ship around.

The final book is not yet written on Heinicke. He has only started one season as a QB, and he was good enough to win 7 games with a god awful defense....a defense that was significantly worse last year than this year so far.

How many legitimate NFL QBs played their best football in their first season as a starter? That's right...NONE.

How many undrafted QBs have survived in the NFL as long as Heinicke has? That right there tells you that he has something special going for him.

I think most of you have been incredibly short-sighted when it comes to Heinicke. He deserves more time to show his full potential. For all we know, he could be another Joe Theismann.

To me, Turner doesn't try to shoot for any kind of balance.
IMO,you get some kind of balance so you can be unpredictable...unpredictable,the glaring weakness Turner has as a playcaller.
It's what Cooley mentioned on Sheehan's podcast after the Dallas loss: there's so much to get to in the pass game when you are so successful in the run game and Turner either didn't know how to get to it or refused to.

Turner's the elephant in the room right now.

The predictability is the part that bugs me. When they need to make a play, the other team knows what is coming. It's been a theme for a few years now and here we are still talking about it.

Antonio Gibson touched the ball three times for six yards today. A rookie coming off serious gunshot wounds, playing in his first ever NFL regular season game, had three times as many touches.

Our coaches are out to lunch.

This fear of Gibson fumbling the football has been taken to the extreme by this staff. In many regards, the blatant disregard to involve him to avoid the "costly" mistake does more harm than good.

Newsflash coaches, it's just another loss on Sunday - nothing we haven't dealt with before in these parts. We promise we can handle it. Do something to win instead of playing scared.

The secondary looked better with WJIII on the bench.

FFS, start Chris Paul at LG. Norwell isn’t even a turnstile or a traffic cone. He is this guy…

I know we are on 3rd center but I cant believe we can t find someone to shot gun snap a football. Countless times the ball was snapped low or on the ground. It was so bad it caused 2-3 broken plays where Wentz had to pick up and just scramble. That was really frustrating . IMO Matsko isn't earning his keep this year the line play on Offense has been bad all year. The only real bright spot to me has been SaahdigCharles the last 2 games

I think it was Derek who may have mentioned it at one point and to his credit, he appears to be on to something. Take a look at the goal line INT. I am not by any means an X's and O's specialist, but there are four receivers that Turner basically has jumbled in the middle of the field. Granted, at the time of the shot, some of these players may not be finished their routes, but this also doesn't appear to scream giving your QB a chance either.

Spread the receivers and it opens up the middle for a QB rush.

If only we had an athletic 6’7 TE that could be isolated on a LB or DB.

I saw the same thing. No one is open on the play. The receivers are all so close, there are 2 guys to cover each of them. No one beat their man except McKissic, but the LB was their waiting and ultimately made the int.

I think Samuel was going to the corner, so you had a flat corner route, but the DBs were waiting for that too making that. very tough throw. And whoever it was that is in the middle, also breaks to the right. So with McLaurin going from his left to his right, this play had 4 guys going to the right side of the field in a packed in end zone. Maybe Terry is supposed to stop in the middle, but I’m not sure. Point is, this route combo had one option, which Wentz threw to and the LB was waiting for it. No one else was open or had a chance at being open.

I honestly would've rather we show pass and run there. I know that means it's the last chance play. But it's only 2 yds and I think Gibson gets in from there. If you are going to pass, you have to roll out there. It's very difficult to drop straight back in that area of the field and find an open WR. You need to make them react to what you are doing to give someone a chance to break open. The whole goalline series looked disorganized and helter skelter.

I know someone who a few years ago played center for an FCS team. In fact, he was the first team All American FCS center his Sr year. They ran 100% of plays from the shotgun. Every snap I saw him make was perfect except 1. He snapped 1 ball to the QBs knees his last game. Turns out he had his hand stepped on the previous play and he couldn’t really feel his hand at the time. I asked his father if he ever had a bad snap and he told me just that one, which wasn’t bad, just not perfect. So why can centers who never get a sniff from the NFL make perfect snaps every time, yet here the starting center for an NFL team is making multiple bad snaps a game.

Norwell and Martin were complete liabilities out there. Their miscues really hurt our chances.
