Official Game Thread - Week 3 - Raiders @ Commanders

Am not out on Conerly but I'd give a one game break, this is the play with Jayden got hurt. I understand young o lineman need reps, but am not doing it where am sacrificing Jayden -- or more likely Mariota. If Josh Johnson has to play, i think they lose.

Well I can't blame Conerly for that play, most every RT will lose that play. But if you are not concerned at this point I don't know what you are watching. Of course he had tough matchups, that's life in the NFL. Every team we play will put their best edge over our rookie RT.

I don't think Jayden is playing, if there is any tear what so ever it would be stupid to play him. They are just not a very good team when he is out, struggling on offense and Mariotta has had very few reps. Even with the road team traveling on a short week I'm very concerned about this game.

If Ekeler was truly viewed by our staff as a lead running back in the NFL at age 30 with his injury history then they were delusional.

My assumption was Peters and Quinn had taken the position that Merritt had come in and won a regular role on offense and on that basis we were trading Brian Robinson.

Ekeler would resume his role as passing game specialist.

If that was NOT the case then we really needed to find a younger better option than McNichols at age 29 to back stop us inside.

I doubt it. My guess is they were trying to ease Jacorey in to take lead back duties later in the season. You see some teams do this with rookie backs - the Broncos are playing the more talented Harvey behind Dobbins and the Giants had Skattebo behind Tracy and Singletary in week 1 before letting him lead in week 2

I wouldn't bench him. I don't know why they didn't do the tackle rotation thing with Wylie like they did with Lucas and Coleman last year. Not many teams do that and I give them credit for doing that last year. It just makes a whole lot of sense from a development standpoint. Do, watch/plan, do, watch/plan, do, etc.

I will probably be banned from this site, but I see a loss to LV.
If JD does not play, or plays but is hobbled, we will lose. Is MM healthy, or does he still suffer from his health problems? Is Geno better than MM? Our WRs except for TM are poor and do not scare any defense. 6 yard passes to Ertz on 3rd and 8 will not win any games.
Keep Conerly at RT, but remember: Trent W. struggled his first year also. Kid has got to learn and develop. With no Bates, I do not see how we can run consistently. I fear Sinnot was a big draft day miss.
Even a hobbled Bowers will torch our defense; they never were able to cover the Packers TE. What will be different on Sunday?
If it comes down to a long FG, just pray!

He just seemed too overwhelmed by GB's pass rush, mostly Parsons but not just him. I was at Vegas to see Crosby play versus Washington a few years back and I was blown away by how overwhelming Crosby was. I just don't see how its going to go well for Conerly. Even if it was him facing a good pass rusher lets say a Kerrigan type, I'd stick it out with Conerly. but Conerly against an elite pass rusher -- let alone with Croskey-Merritt who is a work in progress at pass protect and no Bates. Feels like a tough assignment.

Yeah we can rotate him and have Marriota get hit every other play, etc, instead of being constantly harrassed. But the 50% or so reps dealing with that type of pressure could result in injury. Mariota is very injury prone historically. If this ends up a Josh Johnson day, i think they are losing for sure.

I get it. I don't even know if it has to be 50/50. An argument for getting Wylie involved is he's faced off against Crosby a bunch over his career and probably has a good sense of what to expect

Daniels being out means Kliff will have to commit to the run game this week. Mariota played well last year but you still have to think we’ll go more ball control. I hope to see Bill very active in this game, and though he’s still developing in pass protection and as a receiver, we’ve got to see what he’s got out of the backfield as well, to know if we’ve got the Ekeler replacement on the roster long term. Of course McNichols is going to get most of the obvious passing down reps due to his ability to protect the QB, but we’ve got to let Bill try it out more.

Another thing to keep an eye on is that Mariota didn’t practice much towards the end of this offseason or play at all in the preseason, due to injury. So we’ll need to protect him as he gets comfortable again. Say it with me: running game + Deebo as an extension of said running game.
Is Jayden definitely out?

It's a bit crazy they left Conerly out there like they did, can they really do plan to do it again with Mad Maxx? I don't get why there wasn't a 50/50 play like they used with Coleman to begin last year. Maybe they do go that route Sunday. It will be tougher if Daniels is out and same with Bates

The way they've been talking it seems like he is definitely not going to play.

Gotta hope that Mariota can come in and look like he did in the game last year. Hell as inconsistent as JD has been playing he might even an upgrade early in the season.

wonder if conerly would fare better at left and tunsil at right for the time being?
