Official Game Thread - Week 15 - Commanders @ Giants

Yeah, just Andy Reid 🤣 Kafka may not be good but I’m not sure that’ll show against this D
NYG could be coached by Franz Kafka this week and still win comfortably.

You guys really feel that we're going to lose to the Giants this week?

We are on an 8-game losing streak, including four straight losses by 21+ points, and most recently a 31-0 blowout loss to a 4-8 team. I will be shocked when we finally win a game.

The best hope for a win this week is that the Giants might be losing on purpose for draft position.

I actually do. Dart is the sort of young guy who kills us (way more so than JJ McCarthy), on the other side this offense is pretty stagnant right now, and they always play us with pride because their organizational culture is that even to the lowly Giants we’re second class citizens in this league. Has been like that for 20+ years no matter how bad they are. This locker room feels on the verge of collapse

That's the complete opposite Cosmi said--and the fact that he reference Rivera and 2023 as a point of comparison is very telling. Mike McDaniel had lost the locker room too...then they won 4 in a row.

Good for Cosmi, but these guys are a mess. I’m sure emotionally it feels different, so I would agree Quinn isn’t losing the locker room. But these guys have zero confidence in themselves or what they’re doing, and that’s what I mean by being on the verge of collapse. You could argue it already happened, but these guys are worse than the sum of their parts all around, rather than better. That’s what I meant with that comment. They’re lost and they know the season is beyond lost.

You don’t lose 31-0 to a 4-8 team if you are awake and actually breathing 🤣

I think this team, coaching staff inparticular is desperate for a win. Dont know if that translates to the field but DQ especially needs a win.

I agree. But then again I thought so last week, as well.

I don’t like seeing that +2.5 line. Skins probably win this weekend and mess up the tank. Their pride is also on the line after getting absolutely embarrassed last weekend.

Over/under on the quantity of concussion worthy hit opportunities offered up by Jaxson Dart?
If he doesn't change his style of play, he's going to go from stereotypical meathead to actual meathead.

I mean, how many times can we say 'their pride is on the line' in one season? I think that ship has sailed bro, lol...

Here's the other thing. Players are rarely going to say anything OTHER than what Cosmi is saying, until it becomes clear a coaching change is possible or imminent. I think the whole idea of players tuning out coaching is probably overblown. Football is what these guys do for a living. They either respect/trust their coaches or they don't. When a team is losing, it sucks for everyone. It puts a lot of pressure on players, coaches, and the organization. When you are winning, all the coach speak is charming and amusing. When you are losing, it makes you want to slap someone. That's how it is for fans. For players though, these coaches are their bosses, and while having an awful season probably isn't a lot of fun, I doubt most players suddenly blame their coaches or lose faith in them. And while a lot of folks have bemoaned the number of 'veteran' and 'old' players on our roster, in times like these that's when those guys can help a lot to keep dysfunction and negative spiraling to a minimum despite what might be going down on the field. We have a number of those kinds of experienced players so I don't think there will be any kind of even minor 'revolt' amongst the players.

IMHO the best thing for the team is to continue getting reps and developing. Losing helps draft position, but the bigger value here is getting guys like Conerly and Magee positive development. Getting as many guys 'locked' into the roster for 2026. I still believe were past the point of 'blowing it up' so now it's development. The score of the game is secondary. If we can come out of these 5 weeks with Jayden getting his feet back under him. Conerly continuing to perform. Magee taking another step. Treylon Burks proving he's worth the long term plans. Finding a viable pass receiving TE now that Ertz is on the mend. Getting a feel for Drake Jackson and what he can do. Re-establishing Sainristil as a viable CB. Getting Will Harris back up to speed.

IF, BIG IF, all of that were to happen, i would imagine we don't lose out. I'd rather sacrifice the draft position and check a lot of those boxes, than I would prefer we lose and continue with even more question marks.

I feel like this is a bit of a cop out :)

The players will get reps and continue 'developing' no matter what. Even if we are talking about 'positive development', that kind of growth can occur whether the team wins or not, right?

I agree every game has value. I just don't see how winning any of the remaining games helps us in the grand scheme of things. Play hard, be competitive, and lose. That's the ticket, lol... If we were somehow to fall (rise?) to having one of the top couple of picks - man, that would set us up for a big trade down so we can start restocking the roster with some blue chip talent.

I won't hate it if we win, but I think it's better for us if we don't.

I’m seeing a lot of speculation on social media that both teams are tanking for draft position, so I expect an ugly game, but maybe we can actually win one if the opponent is losing on purpose.

I hate that we are still having this conversation. I stupidly thought things had finally changed.

I can’t believe that there is speculation on social media.

Neither team will actually be tanking, both teams’ fanbases will wish they were. Dart & Co. will do what they can to embarrass us and the same for our guys. The Giants staff, Kafka especially, is auditioning for work around the league. Our assistants on D at least are fighting for jobs. The players might not believe and both teams have had horrendous injury luck in dueling nightmare seasons…but all are still trying (poorly) to win imo.

Probably will be a bad game though, indeed
