Official Game Thread - Week 14 - Commanders @ Vikings

I never said Maye is a magic solution.. in fact i specifically mentioned that this team has many issues, QB being one of them. Maye is playing light out better this season than JD.. thats not even debatable. This D being terrible has little relevance on how this O looks. This O looks anemic and bad all around with far better weapons with JD.. again, pay attention... i am not saying winning... i am talking about effectiveness of this O when on the field... has nothing to do with Pats D being much better.
As far as coaches.. well.. these O coaches were heralded as 'amazing' and 'innovative' just last year... you really think they became terrible overnight? There is a reason this O generally looks better with Mariotta under center. and.. yes Maye under center would make this team better.. would that amount in 2 wins or 4.. no one can say. One thing we can agree on is that this team has a lot of problems that wont be solved overnight.
I also was heavily worried about JD and thought he was the third best QB before we drafted him.
Last year, he showed me what he could do.

The D absolutely has relevance. Maye doesn't worry as much about throwing picks, and he does throw picks. The NEP win those games not because Maye also throws TDs - it's also because the D makes stops, which means the playbook stays open (Maye takes risks still). It matters, bigtime. You don't seem to understand how much D and O can indeed affect each other in major ways.

However, this year I see his durability issues, sure, but I also see a lot of unnecessary hits being taken. I am very confident that Maye takes less damage (and yes, he is probably more durable too - but ALSO takes less damage!) because of the scheme.

Just one major example - many QBs talk about some of the advantages of playing under center - and yet Kliff doesn't have JD play under center. That is supposedly somewhat on JD, but personally, I think Kliff needs to force that issue if that's true. I just don't buy it- Kliff has ALWAYS favored shotgun including at Arizona. It's one of the reasons that I think this scheme is flawed.

This is why I don't like talking about Maye vs JD. I hear you on the concerns - but I just don't believe Kliff's scheme is a winner in the NFL. I don't think you can plug any QB in and expect very different results. I think if you put JD in NE, or put JD in Minn, I think he's having a lot more success.

I don't agree with you (at all) that you can simply say "Maye under center makes this team better" - just like last year, you would have said "Maye under center doesn't make this team better." It's meaningless, there are too many variables at play to know that. I get that Maye looks better this year, 100%, but acting like we can take a player off one team and put him in another team that runs a completely different scheme and wholly different variables? I mean, unless you think JD just sucks, it doesn't make sense.

If you think "JD just sucks" and that's your position, make that clear because I won't waste my time, we've figured out the disagreement. JD has struggled, I don't think he has benefitted from coaching and scheme that other QBs have.

Medrano and Magee haven't done a lot today like I'd hoped for. Most of the other young guys either which all need game time under their belts, get em in the game!

Wagner actually has 5 tackles and 9 assists with a sack

Exactly the point I got called out on earlier.

You said the team celebrated it. That locker room was mourning at a funeral when Quinn said that post-game, they clearly didn’t consider it a moral victory. I’m actually not sure this locker room buys anything these coaches are selling at this point, including even that smidge of misplaced hope last week

Yep, this is the kind of stuff we need to learn - in addition to what coaches here are worth anything.

So we should’ve fired Quinn during the off-season after taking his team to the nfc championship for another fired head coach?

That’s a hot take!
Vrabel was available when we made our decision to hire Quinn, genius.

Vikings got shutout last week? Wow.

Losing 31-0, lost 4 in a row by 21+, what is our point differential? It might be historically bad.

I’m pessimistic about this team and we are even worse than I could have imagined.

And the post I quoted also used the word “celebrate,” but why split hairs? My point is there are no moral victories, especially on a 7-game losing streak.

I have sworn off false hope until I see consistent and sustained success. I recommend the same for everybody making excuses for this crappy team.

Next season will tell us a lot about whether that 28-3 debacle in the SB was symptomatic of something more serious. All the Stephen Covey-like psychobabble about "space" aside, I do wonder how patient AP will be with DQ. Pete Carroll is a damn good coach, a complete coach, the type who makes his coordinators look really good. Same with ol' Jimmy Johnson. We might have our own version of Dave Wannstedt, guys. Let's hope not.

It’ll play out in slow motion over the next 2/3 years most likely but I’ve already seen enough. The Whitt situation was enough but seeing how his locker room failed to rally around Daniels returning, and players (even young ones) keep getting worse rather than better…it’s only a matter of time. Every team has their best week against us. We may even massively improve the roster and make the playoffs next year, it’s possible…but I’ll still know this isn’t the staff to take us all the way.

Looks like we might have a few scores in the early games trending our way draft position wise.

I agree fully with this. Unless AP somehow builds us a top 5 roster in the next couple years where the coaching can get somewhat masked, this staff isn’t it when it comes to really competing for a Super Bowl.

I think there is a real chance DQ seals his own fate next year when he ends up bringing in Raheem to be his DC and he inevitably bombs

Could we please get a HC with an IQ of over 100?

Fire this loser today.

Quinn isn’t it, but not for the reasons you gave. You were wrong before about Daniels playing today and you’re still wrong. He needs to play and improve, he stinks this year. He got himself hurt today, holding the ball, being indecisive, scrambling poorly, trying to make a tackle after a turnover. He needs to smarten up, which is a separate thing from Quinn’s issues as the HC. They aren’t giving Daniels the best chance to succeed, which will be their fatal flaw as a staff…but they weren’t wrong to play him with five games left. He needs to learn to protect himself.

How embarrassing
Glass half full?

If I'm Harris or AP, I am maybe learning the value of what I have on my sidelines. I am maybe starting to think - my HC search wasn't the best.

We got stomped by the Seahawks- I was at that game and my take was we could have done better with better offensive playcalls. Yes there were injuries, but there were yards left on the field.

Macdonald is the HC of that team.

Fast forward to now:
Vikings get shutout by Seahawks last week.
Now shut us out.

First time since 1992 that's happened.
