Official Game Thread - Week 13 - Titans @ Commanders

The injuries to the OL + the injuries to BRob have really taken their toll across the board.

When the offense was really going, they were using a ton of counter-looks and pulling players to open holes. And they had them timed up really well.

As different OL got hurt, they couldn’t keep it up. When Trent Scott is playing, you’re down to OT #4.

Biadacz and Allegeetti have both been playing through stuff.

The other thing is defenses have adjusted. One thing the offense used to do a lot was use TEs and RBs to help both tackles. Defenses have adjusted and now they are just bringing heat right up the middle. That has the dual benefit of clogging the running lanes and putting immediate pressure on the passer.

But if Kliff adjusts to help inside, he’s leaving the tackles on an island and they will just get beat. And he knows this. So he’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Which is why they are trying to run outside. But it’s not working, and if one guy misses a block, it’s a TFL.

The issue is Kliff is trying to scheme a running game while protecting the tackles and there just isn’t enough talent up front to make it happen.

Add to that our WR #2 was cut by the Texans as a final roster cut, you get the idea: we lack the ability to make defenses pay for clogging and brining rushers up the middle.

The only thing they can really do is designed QB runs to the outside. Which they got back to last week. But how much do you want to do that with Daniels?

Or an end around pass. He was a college QB.
They tried that with a throw back to Daniels. Who was open. But it got stuffed.

I don’t remember who the player was who tried to throw it, might have been McCaffery, or somebody else.

But they tried it and it looked fugly because somebody missed a backside block to give the WR time to throw it back.

Curious what the crowd will be like. Lowers going for $64 right now.
For New Orleans/Washington the cheapest available lowers are $180 for EZ and $254 for SL. That stadium is apparently a palace now though after the recent remodel for the upcoming SB.

We’re missing a quality #2 for sure, the type that DCs don’t want to put a guy on an island to defend. To me, if we commit to it, we should still be able to protect Daniels with guys chipping the ends and a back (or HB) staying in to give us 4 guys blocking in the middle. I do think guys being banged up has hindered our blocking though.

Chris - I can understand the confusion. Boiled down (removing any nuance), my point is to pass more, and if we’re successful, hopefully it opens up the ground game and quick hitters. Obviously this could backfire, I just think we need to try something new.

redskins1963 - yeah, we’d still have to run the ball. I just think showing a willingness to lean heavily on the passing game could ultimately help the run game efficiency.D

But if you go max protect, you’re counting on some somebody beating coverage to get open.

We have 1 player who can do that.

Which poses the issue, we can protect or we can run routes, but we can’t seem to do both. And therein lies the problem.

I think Brown gets open more often than we believe, ditto McCaffery. They either aren't targeted or are inconsistent when they are.

Mathis is a healthy scratch. FWIW.

Must win today gentlemen

Get on up!

I’m gonna try to sync the Big100 radio broadcast with the game stream today. Wish me luck. 🤞

I think the protection is breaking down so quickly Daniels can't get to them.

Also, Daniels is a rookie, not a 5 year vet, so he might not see everything.
