Official Game Thread - Week 10 - Steelers @ Commanders

I have a strong feeling that Steelers fans will come close to taking over Northwest Stadium today. They always travel well, but this game with a much more heralded Washington roster, is a must see for any Steelers fan within 300 miles of the DMV.

It is going to take a long time to really rebuild a home field advantage for Washington home games. The only way you ensure a high majority home team crowd is via boosting season ticket sales (and of course, putting a winning team on the field). Until a huge number of seats are held once again by season ticket holders, we will continue to see stadium takeovers by fans of the more popular NFL opponents.

Ultimately, I don't think the crowd has nearly the effect on the game fans like to believe it does. In fact, I don't believe the crowd plays any signficant role in wins/losses of any kind except in the most extreme situations such as a home playoff game where crowd intensity and noise is actually a factor.

We may be shocked, despite our 2024 Commanders success, at just how many Steelers fans show up for today's game.
 
Is there any truth to us giving our burgundy towels to make the terrible towels look complimentary?

I feel like we did that once (our first game playing them at home after last time they embarrassed us at home).
 
Yes. I think the team announced they had 50,000 towels made for this one.
 
I don’t know Boone while I get your point I think there is at least some advantage playing at home. Vegas seems to agree. No way we are favored by 2.5 points playing in Pittsburgh today. Seeing players on the field and sidelines raising their arms asking for noise tells me they feel it and feed off it. I get that coaches and sometimes players may over sell the ability of a crowd to impact a game if for no other reason to encourage better future crowd sizes. I was at the AZ game and I know our team fed off that take over. Obviously that was a road game however… sadly the Steelers could have that same feeling today.

On a different subject, I’m trying to understand the game chat. There is a different place to go discuss the game during the game ? We don’t post here?

I don't disagree entirely. But if you look at the BGO Oracle info - home field barely results in more wins. It's by the slimmest of margins. So to a large extent in the modern era, home field advantage is mostly a fan myth. And we also have to understand that fans WANT to believe rooting for their team makes a difference. I hear from folks who get upset when fans don't stand up during games. To believe fans 'standing' has an impact on the game - it's pretty silly imho.

Yeah I don’t necessarily disagree with any of what you’re saying but I still go back to the apparent fact that Vegas gives a home team 2-3 points for playing at home. The fluctuations after that initial set spread are more dictated by betting, injury news, weather etc. at least that’s my understanding.
 
For any of you that do not enjoy the game chat experience, this thread can of course be utilized for in-game discussion.
 
I can't believe we're favored. I truly feel like we are significant underdogs this week.
