Official Game Thread - Week 10 - Steelers @ Commanders

This game is MUST win for 2 reasons:

1. To get out from the shadow of Norv Turner, who started 7-1 in 1996 and failed to make the playoffs. He started 7-1, but was 7-3 after game 10 - leading to a 2nd half collapse.

2. To get out from the shadow of Jim Zorn, who started 6-2 in 2008 with wins at Philly and at Dallas, but then got embarrassed by the Steelers on Prime Time to start the second half collapse.
 
The loss of Seibert feels almost like the crash of RG3. We had something nice, got used to it, and had it taken away. Hoping for a quick recovery

I want to know why Philly got their bye in week 5 (when they needed it), but us in week 14. Marketing fail to not have Thursday nights e.g division games be for undisputed first place... instead get used to hearing that someone has a game in hand for 2 freaking months. Who is leading our division... is complicated, for no good reason. It's mind boggling that byes are not done for all division teams in the same week.

Meanwhile, I was looking for a fantasy DST to see which D gives up the least passing yards per game, but NFL.com stats are not sortable per game. Bye weeks make these numbers useless. Clearly a diehard sports fan is not in charge. Its like they are not even sorted at all. What year is this.

And they wonder why I drink. /rant

I think this at least the 2nd year in a row that we've had our bye in the last bye week. No idea how the NFL figures this stuff out but someone needs to introduce them to AI - because the humans who are currently doing this stuff suck.
 
Ravens and Bears were able to humanize our offense...I expect the Steelers to do something similar.

So if our defense is really an average or better versus rebuild of historically bad one...this is a game to act like it.

Maybe a game winning drive because defense keeps it close. Just don't look past them because of Philly being next.

I'm this close to endorsing all bye weeks are the same weeks like an all-star week with no all-star game.
 
Good luck with that. I’m sure the league would be fine with one less week of tv revenue. 🤣
 
Nope, they want to spread it around to as many weeks as possible and sell it to as many networks as they can, paid or otherwise.
 
I hope KK sees their weakness and we rage tomorrow

I have suggested an AFC/NFC bye week one week apart.

That still gives them 8 games to broadcast. I’d essentially make it “rivalry week” smack in the middle of the season and almost treat all 8 games like prime time games.

I think it could work.
 
Re: Lavar. It’s tough to for me to get behind the fact we used him wrong or didn’t find a way to use him properly. He had Marvin Lewis and Gregg Williams as DCs. Both of whom knew what they were doing.

Lavar remains the most disappointing player of my lifetime. He had the talent to be our Ray Lewis. He just never had the right mentality for it.

I am somewhat glad at least the organization is making an effort to bring the alumni who probably felt disenfranchised back into the fold. I would have left Lavar on the side of the road, but they probably couldn’t/shouldn't have done that.

I’d like for them to bring back Stephen Davis one day. Dude is one of the most overlooked players in team history. Not his fault he played for loser Norv and then Spurrier had no idea what to do with one of the best backs in football.
 
Regarding tomorrow’s game: I think the offense is going to be ok. Kliff has shown tremendous ability to scheme around good DEs. Quick game, extra blockers, using the read option and run/pass options + tempo. Daniel’s is a very quick decision maker.

I think against the Giants, they kindof had a number in mind and were ok being somewhat “plodding” on offense because of how terrible the Giants offense is.

I expect them to be more aggressive against the Steelers because the Steelers can put up points, so I think you’ll probably see them minor up a bit more on early downs.

The entire defensive strategy should be making Wilson roll left. He can’t throw to his right when moving left so you can cut off half the field.

They need to be able to stop the run and pressure Wilson and they should be ok.
 
Concerned that we have not established the power run game which is a staple of successful Redskin football. Our abilty to stop the run is also questionable.
 
Normally I’d feel like we don’t have a chance in this game. But when you have a QB like JD5 you always have a chance.
 
CRod can run the ball and if they give him the opportunity can wear down the Steelers. Our OL is built for us to run inside and have success with a runner such as CRod.

KK can definitely work in short passes as well as take his shots downfield with TM and do well. Noah will be key in find holes midfield, I think. We need to get Luke McCaff involved more. I'd really like to see him get an end around and get him involved in the slot. It hasn't truly happened yet.

I think Joe Whitt comes up big with an excellent game plan too.

CRod can do that tomorrow if KK gives him the chance.
 
I think CRod can run well, but I really hope we put the game in Daniel’s hands and don’t try banging our head on the run game wall too much on early downs. That plays into the Steelers strength.

I think the best thing we can do tomorrow is be unpredictable.

They’re too well coached and too good up front to be predictable. We need to pass more in this game than in previous games early to loosen things up then hit them with the run in advantages situations.
 
We beat Wilson last year, should be easy to do so again with a better team.

We beat Atlanta last year too.

The one team that has improved more than us over the last 2-3 years are the Lions - a far cry from the Wayne Fontes team we beat 45-0 and 41-10 in 1991.
