I wanted to ask about something that baffled me. Is there any reason why Rivera went for the second 2 point conversion? What's the difference between being up by five or six when it comes to the end of the game. Did he do it just to see if they could do it?

Yeah, I was a little puzzled, but I guess the rationale would be, if they score a late TD but miss the extra point, it's a tie-game?

Yeah, the defensive switch obviously was a disaster. Not sure what the logic is?

No one has mentioned it - but I thought Daron Payne was our best defender yesterday. He was all over the place - great to see!

Pretty much everything Gibson did yesterday worked He didn't have any break out plays, but averaged over 4 yds per rush and 10 yds per reception. 21 touches and he was a big factor in the offense. I actually thought they used him a lot more creatively than they usually do, but just what I saw.

Pete Hailey was on the Sports Junkies and he said the guy that blew up the Jahan Dotson double reverse pitch thing (wasn't a fan of that playcall) was Gibson's to block. That was about the only thing that he 'missed' on so it was a very good day for him. Had a couple anxious moments in the 4th quarter when he was going down with only 1 hand on the ball.. but... we got through it.

This team looks like it's going to be a heart attack every week. Not much new there.

I will say the WR corps looks nice. The team may have a dominant unit there, and that can be something to hang one's hat on. We'll see.

You can block the XP and go to OT. The Steelers did it yesterday and won in OT. A little different scenario, but they were up 6 and the Bengals scored to tie the game. Then Pittsburgh blocked the extra point when a loss seemed certain. So getting it to 6 is a big deal because the other team has to execute that one final play if they score a TD to tie.

the other thing is that it forces a TD instead of 2 FGs. Not much time on the clock, but if Jax got the ball back and drove for a quick FG, an onside kick then opens the door for a short field before you can take another FG shot. Being up 4 or being up 5 doesn't effect that. Being up 6 means at best 2 FGs tie.

Leno is retreating to show 'pass block' and Walker does a pass rush move to go up and under. IMHO Leno didn't engage well enough here to allow for the screen to develop.

RG3 (i know i know) was also on the Junkies and he said it's not irregular for a coach to literally COACH the QB saying "don't think, just throw, the screen will be there" helping them to not hesitate and possibly miss a window.

Just some speculation regarding that pick.

I thought the same thing about Leno on that play. But having never played o-line, I don’t know what they are coached to do. But I would have liked to see him throw him upfield away from the screen to give more room for the pass and so Leno can head downfield. But again, I don’t know how they are coached.

That looks like an amazing defensive play to me. Not sure I can put that on Carson. By the time he would have registered seeing the guy, it was likely already too late.

I think all NFL fans have this mindset that QB’s should never throw INTs. QBs are going to throw INTs. Period. It’s about limiting them, recovering from them, and not taking unnecessary risks in critical situations (which I think it’s fair to say Wentz has a history of).

That’s one of those ‘could happen to any QB’ ones.

I think the game showed us exactly where we have issues. The fact we won the game is a bonus.
it’s pretty clear we could have a very good offense. Weapons EVERYWHERE! But we’ll live and die with Wentz. Dotson is the real deal. And we need depth on our o-line.
Defensively, the game confirms what we suspected. Weakness at linebacker and in the secondary.
I like this as a base to work from.

Jax is better than a 5 win team. They are young and will only get stronger as the season goes on. Honestly, I'm glad we got them for the opener instead of week 12 or later.

I'm not particularly unhappy with Wentz either. He did enough to win this one big.

It's that defense that has me calling this lipstick on a pig. Jax has a second-year QB and lacks a receiver in the upper tier of the NFL but you couldn't tell that watching them work against our D. Jax beat themselves as much as we stopped them.

Not sure I agree with that. Lawrence was under constant pressure yesterday against an average Washington defense (at best). I have a hard time seeing the Jaguars winning more than 5 games.

Yeah, we have weapons. However, we don't have the QB to effectively and consistently get the ball to those weapons, because Wentz's accuracy is so bad.

Wentz does not have good passing fundamentals and really struggles with passes between 20 - 30 yards. He had 5 or 6 really ugly throws yesterday. The vast majority of his completions were dinks and dunks that were 5 yards down the field. I don't think he will remain the starter very long.

Not all INTs are equal. Wentz has a history of throwing really bad, boneheaded INTs deep inside his own territory that causes his team to lose.

If Washington played a better team yesterday and lost, Wentz might not be starting next week. That's how bad those two INTs were.
