Official Game Thread - Week 1 - Giants @ Commanders

Tough start with NFCE foe than a quick turnaround 4 days later vs. the Packers on the road šŸ˜ž

Bottom line, starting Sunday at 1:00 P.M, this team could be 0-2 or 2-0 in less than a business week.

I hope they are ready to rock.

Last year Kliff said Quinn asks him to run it up the gut more than he wanted to keep defenses honest

I think we all saw BRob ineffectively and conservatively run up the gut enough last year, to all not be bummed that he got traded.

When did Kliff say that? Honestly didn’t see it

You also specified on first down before, which feels more like Rivera years behavior

Die Hard You may be right. Jayden has proven he can air it out, he has more weapons with the addition of Deebo and Lane, and better protection up front. He had 3500 passing yards and 25 passing touchdowns last season, I would take the over on that this season.

I think we will see a good rushing attack though. Jayden might not be our leading rusher again, but he had close to 900 yards on the ground, so that dimension is basically given. Plus our offensive line and tight ends are strong. I think we will see a lot of the things we saw in Cincy, when the offense looked great without Jayden needing to throw a pass. We dominated the line of scrimmage, rushing touchdowns for Jayden and Bill, CRod averaged 10 yards a carry on 6 attempts, Deebo with a long run, Bates and Sinnott both blocking great in two tight end sets. If KK can establish that kind of running game every week, there is so much you can do off it, especially with the chess pieces we have.

This could be a dominant offense, I believe we’re in agreement there. We have top tier quarterback play and the ability to control the line of scrimmage, it should be fun to watch.

This feels more like a run-pass option thing than a Quinn thing or Kliff thing.

Running back runs a dive play or QB drops back or QB darts around the end. Isn't that how RPO works?

I remember Kliff talking about DQ pushing him to stay with the run even if it working great because of the other effects it has. Don’t remember ā€œup the gutā€ or ā€œevery first downā€, butā€¦šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I believe Kliff also talked about it being kind of eye opening for himself (or something positive to that effect).

Yeah Kliff didn't say "Quinn said run it on first downs more" but us old dogs have it imprinted in our DNA to believe runs are more likely to happen on first down so maybe that's why I assumed this poke to KK meant more first runs. Personally I grew to hate the first play of the game league wide predictably being a run up the gut no gain for seemingly decades, and in general most all first down plays were runs until the WCO became a thing.

But I imagine its not uncommon for a coach to remind an OC in the now pass happy league to try to maintain their target run pass balance otherwise its too easy for defenses.

I am still thrilled to no end we FINALLY embraced hurry up. The fad had all but come and gone lol. It's no surprise to me our offense did so well. I felt vindicated after complaining about its lack of use over on ES for 2 decades. Heck, we even do it in preseason now. We didn't just run hurry up, we did up tempo hurry up UTHUā„¢ ALL. GAME. LONG. ALL. SEASON. LONG. Unprecedented in the pro game IMO.

A lot of this type of vibe from their fans, in response most of their fans expect a win. Interesting from this perspective, its a twist for Giant fans, i know my share of them and they've been pessimistic in recent years. They are riding high from this off season. While I suspect, they might have their day in the sun on Sunday (hope l am wrong), I think their season crashes at some point.

If the Giants win their fans are going to be unbearable. I live by way too many of them. They have been quiet (for them) over the past couple years, especially last year.

Even is we win they will still have that stupid smugness until Dart starts and fails

Me, too. I have more Giants fans in my life than any other team including ours. It's unbearable at times.

I love how they keep talking about how they "almost" beat us last year and would have had they had a kicker without acknowledging that they were in year 3 of their regime and we were in game two.

To call them an ascending team and us reverting to the mean is ridiculous based off some pre season vibes.

As ive said several times, anything is possible, the nfl is a year to year league, teams with good records one year can be terrible the next and vice versa and until you are an established contender like the bills/ravens/chiefs type teams you can go either way but until we show in the regular season that we have taken a step back and the giants have taken a step forward there's no reason to believe we wont win this game like we would have last year at the end of the season when the games mattered.

I mean if were going by trends, dabol won 9 games year one, 6 games year two and 3 games in year 3.

Carry that out one more year and Im just sayin 🤷

I'm really happy theyre so happy, cause it's going to rip their hearts out when they lose.

Yeah in some ways I like that this game doesn't feel like a gimmie the way it felt months back. If Washington wins, i'll be riding very high heading to Thursday Night football.

The Giants to me, are sort of what Ron Rivera tried to sell about his roster before it all crashed. The main difference is the Giants have some of whats real versus what Ron tried to sell he had. But regardless, it was for Ron (until it was clear it wasn't happening for him) a fantasy with a chance to be true but the verdict was completely up in the air -- somewhat the same thing for the Giants, but their scenario at a minimum feels better than what Ron had cooking. Better for sure. But how much so remains to be seen.

That is, a killer D line. And a young QB who you hope is a franchise QB but don't know.

The difference with Ron is the Giants got two pieces on that D line who are way better than anything Washington had. Where its similar is Abdul Carter is billed as the next great edge rusher. But heck Chase was billed the same way and that didn't work out. Thibodeaux is talented but a bit of a wildcard like a Montez Sweat type.

Also the difference is Ron backed the D line with crap LB play. Giants LBs are good.

Also Dart has more pedigree than Howell.

Could everything come together for the Giants? Sure. But some in the media and their fans are celebrating prematurely as if it already has happened.

And by the end of year 3 Ron had 4 more wins than dabol does.
