Official Game Thread - Week 1 - Giants @ Commanders

I hope Kingsbury and JD light them up. Like embarrassing domination. For that to happen our D also needs to show up strongly. It's a division game on day 1.

I think this will happen. Question is can our D show up?? That and/or multiple turnovers are the only way I see this being a tough game or loss.

I like DQ, but he also has a history of phoning in the preseason and starting slowly. I looked this up recently, and if I recall, he is something like 0-18 in his last five preseasons as head coach and 2-5 in his last seven season openers.

I just looked it up 2-17 since 2017, wow. And yeah 2-5 in the openers.

I feel good about the season but not about the opener. I can't shake the feeling that the Giants got this. While I like the confidence of some here, for me personally I'd be shocked if they give the Giants a beat down next Sunday. I can see the Giants giving Washington a beat down. But if I was forced to guess one outcome it would be like a 27-23 win for the Giants, something like that.

To dominate that D line, they got good LBs too, that would be an amazing start and a shocking one (but of course in a good way) for me.

I think we all underestimate how good JD is now/is going to be. I think he makes a major leap from last season. Can the rest of the team keep up though??? That’s the question.

I think Daniels is already a top 5 QB. He's the team.

The Giants have the better defense. Their D line is potentially special. They probably got the better RB. Nabers is a superstar.

But more on point, they seemed fine tuned and ready for this match up -- played their starters in the preseason and they looked very sharp. This team did the opposite. I think the convergence of that is too much for this team to handle in game 1. But if they lose, it won't be because of Jayden.

And of course I hope am wrong, and welcome people to make fun of these type of posts when the game is over. I'd love to see that happen.

lol, in my head I could see them having a hard time stopping Tracy like they did early in the last matchup. Russell Wilson for his faults can throw the deep ball and i can see them connecting to Nabers early on a big play TD. Abdul Carter who supposedly is killing it in camp and who Parsons has said he thinks will be better than he is as a player -- along with Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns, one of them has a sack fumble.

Maybe I've dreamt this for same reason because I have a vivid thought in my head that especially in the first half Commanders fans are going nuts on twitter as to WTF is going on. And the annoying Giant fans think their team is back for a week or so. But later I do think their season goes south.

If Carter is THAT good Conerly might end up being an elite left tackle. But yeah our D showing up against the run is a real concern.

Hopefully the offense is even better than last year. I know Cosmi is out for 4 games, but I feel that the offense has greatly improved. I also think Kingsbury is a hell of a game planner.

Last year we had a lot of games that came down to the last minute I hope we don't see that as much this year.

Mid game strategy adjustments are also important, re: Gibbs

Of course the defense has to do their job.

Yep that was Conerly's famous game from last season. I think he's going to be a good one.

Overall, i think this O line ends up good but it might take some of the season to gell, a lot of changes and its a position where chemistry matters.

I also think the secondary ends up good as long as Lattimore improves from last year's debacle.

I think the pass rush is better but not by a lot. I suspect the run defense still sucks.

I think the pass weapons are better but there might be more fluctations on that front than last year because i don't like the depth at outside WR.

I think the running game is better.

There is a lot i feel good about.

The only things I don't feel good about are: A. Getting off to a hot start (I think we start off rough). 2. We had the easiest schedule in the NFL last year -- this time we got a bear of a schedule.

I think we end up at either 10-7 or 11-6.

Yeah I’ve got a bad feeling about the opener. Our starters have played so little and our reserves got embarrassed, while the improved Giants are riding a wave of momentum and optimism following a strong preseason.

I would be more pessimistic if not for Jayden, who is the kind of quarterback that keeps you in the game and finds ways to win, so I do still believe we have a decent chance, I’m just not betting on it.

I think we will be lucky if Wilson starts at QB also. Talented rookie QB’s kill us.

My concern with these "soft" training camps is that we do not come out firing on all cylinders. I understand they are trying to avoid injuries before the real season but it also impacts game day playing, especially the first game against a division opponent who has been playing harder during the pre season.

IDK?

We cannot depend on JD to save our ass at the end of every game. We need to be a solid team on offense, defense, and special teams to get to the big game

I think, with regards to the pass rush, that there won’t be constant pressure, guys just getting beaten all the time, but there will be some lapses until they gel. We look really good for a while and then miss a stunt and a guy has a free run etc. and actually, I think that is a good bit better than last year.

I think they had to scheme around Coleman at LT and the offensive line in general last year. I don’t think that happens this year.

I’ve said this elsewhere but I’m worried the Giants have momentum and we don’t.

Jayden hasn’t thrown a pass in preseason, Terry has only been practicing for a week, and we just lost our three preseason games by a combined score of 109-38.

Meanwhile the Giants are all good vibes after crushing their preseason opponents by a combined score of 109-47. And honestly they look better than the team that gave us trouble last year.

Still, there’s always hope with JD in the game.

I don't think it's quite that bad, we did win one game last year, 20-10 over the Patriots in the preseason finale. (And yeah, I looked that up because I thought we won a game or two last year but I couldn't remember which.)

Though last years games where much closer than this years games.

I REALLY attribute most of the pre-season struggles to the fact JD5 played 1 series, and the rest of the preseason was played by Hartman and Johnson. I really think they wanted and thought Hartman was going to be better than he ended up being. They let him start the preseason opener, which is the key that they were at least hoping he would show something. And he was just terrible. And Johnson was somewhat better, but not good. And when that's your QB play, everything sortof crumbles around you.

Last year, Daniels played a little bit, Mariota played some, and then it was turned over to the rest of the bottom of the roster folks.

Let's see what happens. I ride Jay really hard because of his refusal to get the team prepared to play in whatever way necessary leading up to the season.

Last year, we lost the opener against Tampa with a rookie QB. And then won a close game against the Giants, and might have lost (MIGHT, not for sure, you never know) if they had a kicker. We kicked 7 FGs to win. We did play well in that game, though: We racked up 425 yards of offense and held the ball for 37 minutes. We just couldn't score in the red zone at all. We were 0-6 on TDs when we got into the red zone. Blech. Which is why that game was close.

And again, that could be due to it being the second start for a rookie QB. JD5 still went 23/29 for 226 yards. We just stalled in the red zone.

The other thing about that game is we had no answer for Nabers. Which, hello Forbes and St. Juste. He had 10 receptions for 127 yards. And if memory serves, one HUGE drop.
