Official Game Thread - Week 1 - Commanders @ Buccaneers

I'd like to see how Forbes does with actual NFL coaches coaching him instead of a high school coach.

I mean,Darrell Green even said he wasn't getting the instruction he needed last year.

Perhaps. Some national media have Caleb Williams taking on Superman robes and willing the Bears to deep in playoffs 😁

Cade York made the team with no moves at final cuts. Hope we get to see a 45-50 yard attempt for him in Week 1 to get things started.

Cleveland spent a #4 pick on a kicker? It seems when teams do take a kicker in the draft he's often a bust with his first team.

From the parking lots at Raymond James Stadium. Lots of Washington fans…

Nervous, but optimistic and hopeful!

Next pictures from the stadium…….

Representing!

What I liked...

Brian Robinson (always flashes and finds a way to make an impact, even if underutilized).

Daniels played like he was very composed and calm. He feels like he is always going to give this team chance down the road given his legs and maneuverability.

Dislikes...

Where was the violent, attacking and "shark surrounding prey" mentality on defense? Not too many guys played with their hair on fire today.

Oline and dline play were very subpar. Jon Allen was non-existent. We can't afford this becoming a pattern for the second straight year. Daniels' legs likely saved us from being sacked six times or so.

Other known weak units on the team (WR, DB, K) did very little today to squash some of those concerns moving forward.

What are the coaches doing to protect our investment in Daniels? Why the hell does he have the ball in his hands, taking unnecessary shots down at the goal line for three straight plays down 23 points with under two minutes?!

Chiefs fans I know in KC said Allegretti filled in for Thuney admirably during postseason but was a guy that never could emerge as more than spot player.

I think we saw that one on one mismatch today in Tampa.

This team stayed away from spending any real money in offseason and for first year rebuild I didn’t think that was unreasonable.

I was actually hoping for a Jimmy Johnson type tear down and ruthless gutting of roster to bring out one of the younger teams in 2024.

But we retained a number of vets we could have traded for picks and look now to have another 4-5-6 win team on our hands.

Allen should have been traded.

We could have kept Ridgeway and perhaps received another #2 pick to use for a younger player.

Why keep Forbes and bring in Michael Davis at 29 if he couldn’t beat out a guy that is clearly marginal?

We did just enough with the vets to think this team wanted to try and get to 7 or 8 wins.

At least enough in terms of volume of moves.

It appears the quality though is in question.

That game reminded me of the June 27 presidential debate.

I don’t know what they were doing and I don’t think they did either.

That game reminded me of the June 27 presidential debate.
It reminded me of the last 20 years.

IMO, all fans wanted to see yesterday was something better than last year whether win or lose.

Instead, we got a rerun of last year and quite frankly, the last 20. I guess Dan Quinn not standing there with his arms folded was different than Ron but the coaching looked the same....

The play calling on both sides of the ball was lacking. Neither side attacked. No downfield passing was a shocker.

I think we all felt that way. It's tough because after such an exciting offseason that is likely going to pay dividends down the road, we all want to see immediate differences on the field. Maybe we will. Even though Daniels had an odd kind of a day, with so much running and mixed results throwing, you have to feel good about his potential if nothing else. He's pretty electric and the thing I notice about him is how calm and poised he plays.

To be fair, it was a tough opening day scenario as we don't match up very well on D with a team like the Bucs. My biggest disappointment was that we didn't seem to know how to or be able to attack them through the air. I don't know if Kingsbury is determined to shed that 'Air Raid' label he's gotten over the years or what, but it was just very odd playcalling.

Having Daniels run 16 times and call his number to get whacked at goal line repeatedly in short yardage is not protecting him.

You are actually protecting him more by having him throw more from shotgun on early downs and go through the growing pains early.

And put Sinnott and Noah Brown out there to give him at least some decent targets with size.

Dyami Brown and Zacchaeus need to sit on bench.
