Official Game Thread - Preseason Week 3 - Commanders @ Ravens

The outcome of this game means nothing to me.

Washington basically sat their top 50 players (IOW, the team they plan to keep) and didn't play them.

Look at other games this weekend. The Patriots, who went to the Super Bowl last season, were crushed by the lowly Browns 37-13.

Anybody thinks that happens in the regular season?

The eagles were handled by the Bengals 30-13. Does that happen in the regular season? I doubt it.

Not to mention that the Baltimore Ravens seem to have this weird obsession with treating the preseason like the playoffs.

You can only carry 53 players and Washington sat about 50 players, which means pretty much everyone that played in this game will be cut or go to the practice squad.

I'm not saying there aren't reasons of concern, but I'll do my worrying when the games actually count.

If memory serves, the 2013 season began with absurd hype.

RG3's rookie season and his return. First time in the playoffs...let's see if the fire is still there.

The Redskins absolutely dominated pre-season. Crushed every opponent by multiple scores, went 4-0. We looked hungry, deep, and talented.

Then the regular season began and the team was the exact opposite. Lacked depth, especially on special teams (I think we set a record for return TDs allowed...or was that 2014?), lacked top end talent. TE and WR were awful besides Garcon.

None of that was evident in preseason. We all thought the opposite.

Preseason outcomes do not matter. At all.

You want to see your ones play well.

We didn’t. And they didn’t play much. So there’s not a whole lot to take away.

I am worried about the OL, but we’ll see come week one. I think it’s going to be an issue all season but I don’t think we’re doomed to a season of awfulness.

Some things I hope we are working towards:

-Getting the ball out quick from JD’s hands

-a passing game that utilizes multiple underneath outlets as hots

-RBs that can pass protect to help the OL out.

If we can do those things, I think our offense can move the ball.

I think our defenses won’t be any worse than middle of the road.

So we could have a decent season all things considered.

I think this is a perfectly reasonable take. I find it hard to believe that the one drive the starters had on offense is reflective of how they will perform through a full game, even less so if they are able to bolster the line prior to week 1. What does concern me is that there seems to be a very fine line between being a middle of the pack team (which certainly doesn't preclude making the playoffs) and a repeat performance of last year.
