My observations:
Good:
Daniels looks fluid and smooth running the offense. He and the receivers seem to have a good feel for each other. Night and day from preseasons past.
Dyami Brown looks focused and as if he wants to be here, which is something we didn't see for much of the past couple of years.
Michael Wiley has good quickness and vision in the backfield. This guy looks as if he can play at this level. I am not convinced that Chris Rodriguez has a spot sewn up on the final 53.
Luvu and Sainristil look like the anchors in the back seven. They play fast and seem to be all over the field. They don't miss tackles.
Still productive vets like Jamison Crowder make a case for themselves to be retained as versatile depth performers.
Bad:
Patterson is definitely not the final kicker for Washington in 2024. My guess is he here for another week and then into final cuts. I am still looking at which kicker Detroit decides to go with.
I hope Michael Deiter doesn't have to play many snaps for us at guard in 2024 because he looks rough out there, doesn't seem to be able to handle inside power. Perhaps he's a guy that just plays one position, center.
It's very frustrating to watch this secondary outside of Sainristil. Most of these guys were Rivera draft picks and not seventh rounders either. Most if not all appear to have decent to good speed, size (outside of Forbes issues with strength), etc. But on game days they all play small. Either they are late to pick up their man in coverage, blow open field tackles, or fail to make plays on the ball when they are in good position in physical coverage.
One would think out of the stable of Forbes, Martin, St. Juste, Butler, Forrest, etc. that ONE of these guy would step up and become a real player for us. Still waiting on that one.
I was going to mention pass rush here but we have played mostly 3rd day draft picks and undrafted free agents on the DL in the first two preseason games. Outside of Jamin Davis, who is still trying to prove himself, many of these guys are long shots to make the roster. Even our #2 pick, Newton, has taken no live snaps. So the grade here is still a question mark until we see the regular guys for more than 2 or 3 snaps. Ferrell looked good last week in his early work against the Jets.
