Official Game Thread - Playoffs Week 1 - Commanders @ Buccaneers - SNF

Kliff needs to be on his game today. One thing I would love to see is to boot and roll out JD5 but also call some fake WR screens. Pump fake that shit and go deep. Have we even seen a pump this year? Love the pump vs aggressive D's. Call plays to get time for TMC to get deep. Keep Vita running laterally.

One of his strengths is going deep and I want to see him roll the dice and call that more often. I just dont see our traditional run game being the difference maker today. It's all on Daniels to win this game. The TEAM weakness of Tampa are its DB and its high time to go for the jugs.

If we win this game Daniels may finish with 500 combined yards. Book it.

We had Forbes and BSJ as starting corners weeks 1....Lattimore and Sanistril this week...thats gotta be a huge plus. Stopping the run is what scares me today.

Main keys tonight:

Have a credible run game on offense.

Can't have a no show by the RB room.
The Skins have scraped by for the last month because of their paltry run game. If BRob doesn't have it, gotta find someone who does. Oline needs to run block it's ass off tonight.

Stop the run on defense.

And not just the last quarter and a half of the game either. Have to be ready from the get go. If the Bucs are able to consistently run tonight, it's going to be a long night. Allen and Payne need to step it up tonight.

If you paid attention to the games yesterday, the teams that could run, won.

Hope the Skins heed that lesson.

And in the end, we don't have to limit the other team's scoring. We just have to score more than they do.
So, what you're saying, to paraphrase John Madden, is the team who scores the most points typically wins the game? :p

I won't be surprised if 2 of the first 3 draft picks are on the OL with the other being DL.

With a great OL Daniels will be unstoppable. Pair that with a great DL and we might be the new Chiefs.
A little off-topic, but I would be surprised because I don't think they are going to want to entirely re-shuffle the line again. I think they're going to look for one tackle upgrade. I don't think they're going to actively try and shuffle the interior of the line.

That either means they push Coleman to RT with a new LT, or they find a replacement for Wiley.

I still think the biggest area of need on the team is CB.

I really wish I had optimism about this game.

But for some reason I can’t shake…

I’m honestly going to be happy with the season no matter what. But I think Tampa is a brutal matchup. They can run the ball exceptionally well, Baker is tough to bring down. And they have a stout run defense.

The only way they win is if JD5 passes them to victory, or beats them with his legs. But they probably need to score 40+ to win. And they might even lose scoring 40+

There is a path to victory, but man, I would have preferred the Rams. And, FWIW, Minnesota or Green Bay (though I know they was impossible)

Tampa is a VERY good team and a terrible matchup.

Here’s hoping for some magic. I desperately WANT them to win. The heart says they will but the head says it’s going to be REALLY tough.
I’m mostly with you here. We’ve been pretty good at limiting one facet defensively, particularly via adjustments, but balanced offenses make life tougher.
The other concerning factors for me is how weak our rushing attack has been (sans Daniels), and the number of mistakes we’ve made recently - turnovers, penalties, drops, etc. Maybe more to the point, I don’t like how much is put on Daniels to win games for us.

On the bright side, our defense has been generally far better than when we started the year (and now we have Lattimore), Daniels had a relatively short leash when we played them previously, and this team has proven an ability to keep games close, and to close out tight games, including overcoming adversity.

So I give the edge to the Bucs for sure, and don’t love the matchup either, but I can’t dismiss the never say die attitude of our team either (particularly Daniels ability to shine in clutch moments).

Man, I can’t wait to improve the talent around Jayden.

Going deep requires pass blocking. This isn't going to work if the OL can't protect JD for more than 2 seconds. And TB has a very good pass rush.

You sure its impossible to go deep today? Interesting - I'll take that bet that we will. Despite your apparent lack of faith in Kliff, most all OCs can find ways to buy a QB time behind an OL that cannot pass block. Especially with a mobile stud with good accuracy slinging the pig skin deep.

I think we’ve shown the ability to take shots this whole season, even when the OL has been getting beat. We’ve also had our sack numbers skewed a bit by JD tucking and running and stepping out just behind the LOS resulting in a sack in the box score.

Not to say we don’t have struggles, but I’m confident we can get some shots down field.

I'm operating in reality. TB has a good pass rush and despite JD being mobile and great at eluding pressure, we're still top 7 in sacks allowed this season. I also never said "impossible", but I do remember your hyperbolic and strawman nature from the other board, so that's expected. I wouldn't be all that surprised if we take a deep shot or two, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if we didn't, depending on how well we can protect.
