Official Game Thread - Playoffs Week 1 - Commanders @ Buccaneers - SNF

Yeah it's frustrating how the Commanders start most every game with the other team just marching down the field. The good news is they seem to adjust well as the game goes on but these slow starts are a problem. I'm pretty optimistic about the injuries, BassAss is practicing and unlike a hamstrick you can always tape an ankle. Just hope the Lattimore hammy holds up.

I didn't like them in this game, still don't. But I just watched ESPN (for what that's worth) and all 4 picked Washington.
BadAzz can be a key factor in this game. We need him to neutralize Vitameatavegamin to held keep JD5 clean to lead our comeback. I am not sure if he is the comeback kid this year among the leagues QBs but it seems like he remains cool and calm when the heat is on when the D knows he is going to pass. I suspect he is leading the rookie class in comeback wins. I know he has a lot of late game TDs or whatever that stat is.

Interesting all picked Washington. NFL playoff favorites win like 70% of the time - last I checked we were +3 when I hoped on. The league wanted us as the game of the week. Meanwhile, Houston plays yet again Saturday at 3pm - I think that is 8 straight playoff years they have the crappiest time slot.

Tampa are 3 point favorites last time I looked. Which is more home advantage - it’s really a toss up game.

Turnovers, red zone efficiency, 3rd downs, special teams.

Just like most games.

What do we know about Wrolstad's crew? He's in his 11th season as a Referee and 22nd overall as an NFL official.

Courtesy of the X account @nflrefstats1, we learned more about Wrolstand and his crew.

  • Wrolstad's crew is No. 1 in calling pre-snap penalties.
  • Wrolstad's crew ranks No. 1 in assessing taunting penalties. Why is that important? Mike Evans faces off against Marshon Lattimore, and they have a long history.
  • Wrolstad's crew ranks second in most penalties per game.
  • Commanders are the NFL's most penalized team on third down.
  • Commanders No. 1 in the NFL in defensive pass interference penalties.
  • Wrolstad's crew penalizes heavily on first and second downs but much less on third downs.

I really wish I had optimism about this game.

But for some reason I can’t shake…

I’m honestly going to be happy with the season no matter what. But I think Tampa is a brutal matchup. They can run the ball exceptionally well, Baker is tough to bring down. And they have a stout run defense.

The only way they win is if JD5 passes them to victory, or beats them with his legs. But they probably need to score 40+ to win. And they might even lose scoring 40+

There is a path to victory, but man, I would have preferred the Rams. And, FWIW, Minnesota or Green Bay (though I know they was impossible)

Tampa is a VERY good team and a terrible matchup.

Here’s hoping for some magic. I desperately WANT them to win. The heart says they will but the head says it’s going to be REALLY tough.

Look. I know 'statistically' we've given up a ton of rushing yards. But in terms of rushing scoring we are middle of the league. And although it has been Katie bar the door in the 1st half against top RBs, in the 2nd half of games we have frequently shut that ish down, even when facing some of the league's best RBs. It's not nearly as bad as we are making it out to be.

I don't know what will happen, but I don't think this is some massive mismatch. I just don't.

And in the end, we don't have to limit the other team's scoring. We just have to score more than they do.

Buck up. This is a winnable game.

The gambling lines remain at Tampa -3. Considering the home field advantage, that’s a coin toss.

Yep. Jayden Daniels respect is real.

we have the second worst pass blocking PFF grade over the regular season of any team in the playoffs. Offensive line upgrade needs to be a point of emphasis in the off-season.

I won't be surprised if 2 of the first 3 draft picks are on the OL with the other being DL.

With a great OL Daniels will be unstoppable. Pair that with a great DL and we might be the new Chiefs.

Can't help but feel a little sad, knowing that we are missing a post from Pittman4Two that would be on ExtremeSkins this morning.

Here's to you, Pewter Prognosticator:cheers:

:indian-chief:The Rook

He is probably futilely refreshing es.redskins.com right now... over... and over... and over

My guess is he still can't figure out why eggstreamskins.com still is down. Damn all the innanets.

we're gonna have a presence..

Rally Captain is quickly becoming this generation's Chief Zee. Got to talk with him for a while at the Dallas game last week-he hasn't missed a game, home or away since 2015.

This is actually a video from Dallas last week, and that's me jumping up in the yellow Kerrigan jersey leading the Dallas crowd in HTTR after we scored mid game. Was a pretty awesome stadium takeover.
