Official Game Thread - NFC CHAMPIONSHIP - Commanders @ Eagles

You don't have to blame the refs for the outcome of the game in order to rightfully criticize how terribly one-sided they were with the distribution of penalties they handed out. They can be two separate conversations. I tend to place more of my grievances on the calls while the game was still within a possession or two, when the Commanders still had a realistic shot of keeping the game close. If the Eagles punt on the Barkley hold non-call drive then we get the ball back with a chance to take the lead, even if it is only a field goal. Instead, Hurts hits the big pass on 4th & 5 and the next time Jayden Daniels touches the ball it is 12-27 and any chance of a comeback is severely reduced.

All that said, Defense starts up front and the overall lack of pass rush (albeit trying to generate it against the best O-line in the league) was too big of a hurdle for the rest of the defense to make up for. I think someone got to Hurts at half time and made it clear to him that there was no threat up front because he seemed to settle down a lot almost if he knew he could play a lot more relaxed.

Total agreement with a very important caveat. I also look at things in the fourth, but the gameplan against the Eagles tends to be a whole-game gameplan that falls apart badly without quarters 1-3 being followed at least a bit.

The Eagles wear teams out. It's what they do. So when they get more possessions, or just longer possessions, expect the fourth quarter to be a 2 or 3 TD affair for them. That's exactly what happened, in part because the style of play the Eagles play lends itself to that outcome heavily.

So, in this game, it's especially important that some of those drives got stopped up correctly, and like I mentioned, even the mentality of the team is less affected throughout. It's just a shame because this Eagles team is astronomically talented; they truly didn't need the help they unequivocally got, purposefully or not. The amount that occurred suggests there was bias at least involved; it just doesn't lend itself to randomness to have that many missed calls all on one side. I am not saying they never missed a call against the Comms, though; it was just way too far to one side.

It’s also a tacit acknowledgement they goofed on the field.

Look, to be fair, the recent claim by Brown is that the ref said "Stop it" and he claims he stopped but Lattimore did not.

You see, even there - there are OBVIOUS problems. As far as I know, there is a rule that explicitly governs the helmet. If you remove the helmet, bam, automatic penalty. Not "warning" - right there, the only two possible outcomes were supposed to be two roughness penalties or one against Brown.

Too many of these in this game. Just way, way too many.

By the way, for any who thought the broadcast was weirdly biased - and again, this is commonly an unfounded fan lament that I try to avoid - apparently Kevin Burkhardt is in fact a publicly known Eagles fan. I read something in an article about it today, but I guess some of the bias may not have been "fan imagination" in this case at least!

The refs didn't goof. I mean why assign Hochuli to the game? Even though it looks bad? Why not another crew after that Saints game?

Because he and his crew had a job to do. The fine is to give appearance of fairness. It's a talking point that talking heads will bring up if you ever mention the R or C words relating to game outcomes. "They fined decamillionaires 15,000, you see?! Bad calls happen."

They must have been blinking all game then because they missed a hell of a lot of calls. how many OL holding calls did the Eagles have? They were holding all game, I dont remember any calls.

Of course they lost because of the fumbles but the game would have been a lot more interesting if the refs werent "blinking" on one side so much.

That's why Redskins fans hate the Cowturds so much. Back in 88-92 you could walk around just about anywhere in the country and not see a Cowboy anything. Then 1993 SB happened and just about every 3rd dude had either a brand new Cowboys jacket, Jersey or hat. Some of them had all 3. For like 5 years!

I was stationed in San Diego in 93 and all of the former closet Cowboy fans took over the Navy base. Some of them I knew them and that they had switched teams. The ones who were somehow Bulls/Red Wings/Cowboy fans. The easiest assholes to pick on in the world. 3 years earlier they were Lakers/A's/49er fans though.

I did actually know one dude who was a die hard Patriots fan, back then they were the worst team in the league several years in a row. Everybody felt sorry for him, like they have for us the past couple decades lol.
