COVID outbreaks, regressing vs. Dallas, and who exactly might suit up in a critical road test against Philadelphia. As always in Washington, plenty to talk and argue about!

Glad to hear that none of you were added to the Covid list or are in the concussion protocol.

Couple things:
TBH Boone if you had mentioned expanded rosters due to injuries and covid in a thread I must've missed that but it is a very valid point. However, the salary cap went down this year so I can see that in the future but doesn't help the present.

The FedEx experience and unruly fans, it's simple when teams go in the gutter, the riff raff comes out, when the Bucs were good and making the playoffs in the 2000's it was a nice place to go to a game, but 2012 it was nothing but drunk garbage at the games. The stadium doesn't help but losing somehow just brings out the people who want to be a jackass. As far as ownership goes for lack of fan attendance, that's some of it but as an O's fan I despise Angelos but love going to a game at Camden.

Whether or not we play the game this week, I don't see the NFL cancelling any games, it's still early and more teams could experience this issue as the week goes on. If we do play, holy mother of what does the team even resemble.

Gibson - please go call Tiki Barber who almost was out of the NFL due to loose ball carrying.

Overall great pod this week gents, lots of good opines and discussion and whoever that Eric guy who was mentioned, what a dick.

I agree on the owner - in the short term - having little impact on attendance. But the overall impact of Snyder over the years has devastated this fanbase. There’s a certain segment of fans who refuse to support the team anymore because of who our owner is.

Oh I agree, same as the name change which I'd expect had a bigger impact, I know ST stated 25% probably bounced due to the name change, I'm not so sure it's not more like 35% plus. I have relatives older than I who have not watched an NFL game after that and they were just as dedicated as I am.

Which also comes to a different point. The generation born say after 84, has no real recollection of this team being any good, there's no new blood except maybe through family members to excite them to want to be part of this when there's another team 35 minutes away that is consistently good and has a nicer stadium and actually wins. Similar to an aging population and declining birth rate eventually there's not enough to replace whats left.

And there’s a general trend towards disinterest in pro sports overall in the younger generations (at least compared to us older folks)

I know that for myself I only watch Redskins games and Capitals games (except for the playoffs).

I haven’t watched a single NBA game since the league and players went all SJW and MLB is just not my thing. I will watch any World Cup games though.

All part of the mental manipulation thanks to the wonders of electronics unfortunately, why watch sports when there's a game on your phone to play

Up to 21 players now, ffs

Here's a notion. Not saying I endorse it but...

Washington has 21 players on the Covid list. We also have a whole bunch on IR. Plus we have players like Terry and JD who are trying to work back from Concussion Protocol.

If the situation looks dire, teamwise, heading into Sunday against a rested Eagles... would it be wiser to for Washington to forfeit the game and take the L?

Chances are we're gonna lose the game anyway with such a decimated roster against the Eagles coming off a Bye. We could play the game and hope that we have a small chance to win it, but that way runs the risk of more injuries.
I'm lairy of the key players/starters trying to overcompensate and get hurt in what is most likely a loss anyway if we can't field half our team.
Could we take the L, take an extra weeks rest (essentially giving us another Bye week of our own) and then try to take the last three Wins in a row to get us to 9-8? Look how we performed coming out of the last Bye? And we still would have game 2's against both the Cowboys and Eagles. Control of our own destiny might be a little out of our own hands if we do that, but maybe Covid has already taken it away anyway?

Would that be a wiser course of action at this point?

Again, not endorsing it, but just a thought that crossed my mind.

No. You have to try and win. If we lose, our chances of making the playoffs are almost nil and at that point more injuries are irrelevant.

I hear ya, but I'm not sure I agree when you start looking at the records and who we're up against for the post-season.
I HATE the thought of throwing a game, but...I don't feel it's a slam dunk. Been thinking a lot about this since it occured to me.
This feels to me like carefully weighing the importance of one game against the importance of making the post season.

What are the odds of us actually winning if we're down 21 players to Covid, 13 on IR (I think that was the number I saw) including numerous key starters along the Defense and Offensive Line?

So the equation looks like. LOSS+REST+NO INJURIES or VERY PROBABLY LOSS+NO REST+POTENTIAL INJURY RISK.

Route 1 leads to small chance of Playoffs. Route 2 leads to pratically no chance of playoffs.

I mean, what are the chances we'd run the table from here anyway? Finish the season 10-7? Far more realistic that we'd lose at least one game, finish 9-8. This way we may be in a position to CHOOSE the game we lose.

We're basically in a race with the, Eagles (also 6-7), the Vikings (also 6-7) the Seahawks (behind us at 5-8), Saints (6-7), Falcons (6-7) and Panthers (5-8)

Last weeks Cowboys game means the Division is out of reach. So no need to fight for that.
Even if we throw this game against the Eagles, we have the return leg coming up. So we could split if we can get healthy for round 2. That would move us both to 7-8

If rested, we should beat the Giants (who are a train wreck!) and maybe put up a better showing against the Cowboys in the return bout. Running the table would get us to 9-8 record.

The Seahawks would need to win their last 4 to beat us. (Russell looks awful, and they have remaining games against the Cards and the Rams, so good luck with that!).
The Vikings have the Bears twice (who they should beat, but you know...Cousins!) and then the Pack and the Rams. Who should beat them (if the Rams recover from their Covid outbreak) That would leave them 8-9.
The Eagles have maybe the easiest path. They play us twice, the Giants and the Cowboys. If we can split our games, and they lose to the Boys and beat the Giants., then they also finish 8-9
The Falcons have maybe the toughest time. They have remaining games against, Bills, 49ers and Saints, They also have the Panthers.
The Saints have the Buccs and the Dolphins, plus that interdivisional game with the Saints. They also have the Panthers.
The Panthers have the above mentioned interdivisional games against the Saints and Falcons, plus the Buccs twice. They're toast!

So, even throwing this game to spend a week getting healthy, taking this loss on the chin, we STILL are (arguably) in the driving seat for the second playoff wildcard spot. IF we can win out from there. Which is a big if.

If we go into this game shorthanded and lose, and in the process, get a couple more important injuries (probably on the O-line! LOL) or lose Carter or Gibson in what is likely to be a meaningless game. Or if that sieve of a makeshift O-Line means we lose Heineke to an injury more serious than last week. (And I say meaningless as in with our lack of rest and our covid/injury status there's a 95% chance we lose the game anyway)
If all that was to happen we're royally screwed for the stretch run.

Of course, there is that slim chance that a plucky band of nobody replacements filling in for our missing starters pull off a miracle and win the game. :D
It's happened before! (Strike year Redskins!)

Heinicke is out now, I cant see us fielding a team this week

Keim states it would be on tuesday

BTW this likely hurts us even more as we'll have ZERO rest before we play @ Dallas. If we can navigate our way through the next 4 weeks and find ourselves in the playoffs, I really dont want to hear anyone refer to it as cheap or 'backing in'

A stroke of sanity in a sea of ridiculousness.

The timing issue is not ideal but it’s much better than the alternative.

If, IF, a considerable number of players are able to safely return to work.

Listened to the latest pod today on the road at work.....it was much needed therapy after last week's game!
John is exactly right when he refers to Dallas as evil incarnate. They brought this plague of Omnicron upon us! ;)

Thank you guys for what you do and keep up the good work!
