Yeah, i get that we had a 3-13 season last year. But we're significantly better off than the raiders as a franchise.

And suggesting that we dump young guys and bring in a bunch of 30+ guys on big contracts?

The only way I can justify feeling that way is if you didn't exist, lived under a rock, or had your memory wiped from 2000-2009.
 
So....I can buy into what most are saying in respect to the positive vibes. it's what we all want afterall.

but I do have one nagging issue: what the H was Allen doing that whole time? making big bucks just to show up at Redskin rallies? In my work life, if someone is useless (regardless of explanations)...you don't pay them to be useless.

water under the bridge at this point. the draft is certainly going to be interesting.

I'd imagine he's going to be managing... I'm sure that even during this time of year, when the buck stops with you... there's plenty to be a part of. If I was him I'd be in just about every meeting going on at the park, evaluating staff (training/medical), evaluating talent along side the position coaches... etc. Players have been coming and going throughout the week for potential signings, and I would also imagine with the draft coming up.. he's going to be involved in the process. He'd be crazy to just sit in his office and sign off on stuff. While each piece has it's primary responsibility, he's going to want to know what his name is going on.

It's a good and valid question. I really WANT to believe that he was making suggestions and recommendations to Shanny much of the time, and those recommendations were being summarily dismissed. To me, that's the optimal answer. And, given what we know of the power structure, it's entirely plausible.

Of course, I have no proof whatsoever of that. It's also plausible that Shanny and Allen had more of an equal say than we will ever know, and much of the blame for the mess we are in lies as much with Allen as it does with Shanny. THAT means the next five years are going to massively blow. And that's too depressing to think about.

So I'm going with door number one, for my own peace of mind.

Allen is widely credited for bringing Redskins Alumni back into the picture - something Snyder had worked hard to destroy. We've had the largest home comings we've had in a while, and a number of Redskins Greats have come back into the picture in a number of ways.

He's also credited for a huge turn around in the way Fed Ex Field has operated. From beefing up security, to opening lots earlier, to bringing in more people to control traffic, more people at the gates, making the gates run on metal detecting wands instead of physical pat downs, more people running the concessions. He also brought in a bunch of giant TV's at the end of the 2012 season so we could all show up earlier and watch the other games. Was pretty cool.

I don't know how much credit he gets for the these two, but they happened under his watch: automatic seat upgrade program, creation and utilization of fan captains (there's at least 2 of us on the board that are fan captains :) )

Also a bunch of upgrades (ribbon board, new tv) and they've fundamentally changed the way they utilize the tv's after many complaints. Again, not sure how much of that was Allen himself or stuff set in motion by others that just happened under his watch.

There's more, I'm sure.

He's done a lot for the organization. When it came to acquiring talent, my understanding was he made the contracts work but it was Shanahan that decided who to bring in/kick out.
 
oh yeah, this year we're getting a new wifi system and we even managed to get The League to pay for it.
 
I have to admit, the old/current WiFi at the stadium is pretty trifling.

i didn't even know we had one

i got excited when i got a new phone and was one of the few people on LTE. you could get an awesome signal and stream TV on your phone there.

now everyone's phone has an LTE radio and the service has gone back to crap again when it gets close to kickoff :\
 
Pretty much. The WiFi at the stadium was just a hair more useful than LTE.

also have to distinguish uplink from downlink bandwidth. not the same in most of these technologies.

umm yeah thats an exact quote, I paraphrased him, or do you not think that the two statements are pretty much the same.

I am saying the raiders are in a better position for a rapid turnaround because they had such bad records, they also drafted really poorly and havent done much in free agency but from a resource standpoint, they are in better shape than we are. with bad management it wont matter anyway.

as far as our team goes, we have massive holes, we signed 2 decent players who will start because the guys they are competing against are not exactly starting calibre and they are aveerage to above average calibre. the oline guys we signed are barely starter calibre as well
 
Ryman, while I agree with your assessment, "with bad management it won't matter anyway" applies to every team. Same goes for good management. If our management drafts well, none of this matters. If our management drafts poorly ... none of this matters.

I'm not sure I understand the hand wringing this early.

We really don't know at this point.

If Jenkins, LeRibeus, Hankerson, Amerson, Thomas, Gettis, Rambo, B. Jenkins, Minnefield, Baker and Compton all turn out to be long-term disappointments then we have one helluva rebuild left to do after 2014.

If a number of these picks step up and prove they can be consistent contributors then we will be better than most people think.
 
Well, the Raiders are trying to put together an entire team in free agency and I can't imagine that working in 2014 in terms of getting everyone on the same page, etc.

Even if their picks were solid, which is questionable.

Grabbing older guys like Schaub at 32 and Penn at 31 and showering them with money rarely works in this league.
 
Raiders are a last place team that is likely to stay there for awhile.

They are only damaging their future by tying up money in older guys like Schaub when the overall cast is weak in a tough division.

The Redskins have a better core of younger talent than Oakland and that will show through over the next 1-2 seasons.

The Raiders gave up two #1 picks for Carson Palmer. He is now in Arizona and Oakland has bupkis to show for it.

That sets an organization back 3-5 years.
