NFL Pickem 2011!

I couldn't log in at work (blocked but now mysteriously opened) all last week and had comp problems at home so nothing for me for last week. I'll still try for this week to see if I can gain any ground by end of the year.

Im officially out. My laptop from home crashed and burned and I cant get to it from work. was fun for while it lasted though...

It's quite possible to miss a week and win the whole thing. The winner is decided by # of correct total picks, not %. No reason to stop playing.

I let my heart pick last night's game. I predicted a loss to everyone who asked me all week whether or not we'd beat Dallas on MNF. Every time.

So what do I do in the Pick'em? Pick us.

Oh well.
Om, there is not a Redskins fan in existence who would fault you your choice or its reason.

Word. Actually, there is another site I pick 'em on that labels you a 'Skins traitor if you pick against them even once. Thus far, no one who has done so has ever won this particular site's contest. For what it's worth.

Get your picks in people. Lots of folks who haven't yet.

Awww, CRAP. Forgot to submit picks this week. Oh well, looks like I've got to root for the top end to fail miserably. :/

Just a suggestion, but to keep people interested in the pick 'em, maybe you can throw out everyone's worst week?*

*This post was made entirely out of self-interest. :D

I'm not changing the rules 4 games into the season, but we can look at it next year. Folks can still win the 'Swami' prize for a perfect week - and honestly - even if someone totally missed a week since we're only 4 weeks in, and the determining factor for final rankings is total # of games correctly picked.

As painful as it might be, I'd love to pick games against the spread next year as well. Because you know, it's not like Boone and Neo do enough around here. :)

We can *switch* to a spread-based contest next year, or have both a straight-up-win and spread version. Software allows all of that. We could also charge to play and put that towards more impressive prizes - which if folks keep signing up and dropping out after 3 games, might be the way to go.

I like the basic version as we are doing now.

Love the idea of a small fee for maintenance of the site and services. More for extra prizes - if it is a popular idea.

I think that's a great idea, but keep the entry fee low. Maybe do one fee based, the other free and see what happens.

Well, the good news is, we can do whatever the members here want :) We can even do an NCAA football version. Sounds like we need a poll at year's end to figure out what folks enjoy the most.

I like a small entry fee - maybe in the $25-50 range for the season? You can give half to the ST Foundation or some other Redskins-related charity, and the other half can go towards prizes/maintenance.

I also like the idea of a spread-based contest.

Don't like the idea of using the spread. Puts too much in the hands of luck, good or bad. You could theoretically pick the ultimate winner of every game, yet lose every one because of the spread. No skill there. Just pure ****house luck.

I do, however, like the idea of receiving a small fee for the schooling you all are going to receive this year. Not much. Just send me what you can afford, plus $5.00 for shipping and handling. Send it to Boone, and he'll see that I get it.

Ax, how is picking against the spread luck? If anything, it takes more skill. Not only do you need to know the winner, you have to have a good idea of how many points will be scored.
