NFL Draft Day 3 (Allen audio/Final)

Not to mention we got McNabb, and a 4th for Campbell. Kept Haynesworth, Rocky, Carter, Cooley. Very happy with how the weekend turned out.
 
Still don't know that I want a disgruntled Haynesworth on the team, and I'd happily have taken a 3rd or 4th rounder for Rocky.

All told, however, I feel a lot better than after last year's Vinny special.

i'm hearing that Mcnabb has been talking to Haynesworth trying to turn back around?
 
I agree for no more picks than we had ... turned out pretty good ...i was hoping we would get a new young DB though.

I just got home from the DDP.

In the end we traded JC to the Raiders for the equivalent of a 6th round pick.
Kind of thought Campbell would be worth more, but I remember Pappas and the other SkinsCast guys (free pub) saying last year that when they were trying to move Campbell during the Cutler/Sanchez saga all that was offered up was a 6th rounder.

Personally, I think for that we should have just kept him if we could get no more than that. Let him and Grossman duke it out

I don't agree that we got the equivalent of a 6th. I don't think the net present value argument fits here.

IMO, the quality of player you can get with a 6th round pick (in any year) will always be less than what you can get in the 4th round.

I'd rather have the 4th.
 
I get what you're saying......and yes, in 2012 I'd rather have the fourth than a 5th rounder in 2011 or a 6th rounder in 2010.
That said, in draft points value (draft trade chart) usually if you give a pick for next year it's = to 1 round lower to the value. Since this is a pick 2 seasons from now, the pick would be = in draft point value to the equivalent of a 6 rounder.

Again, I'd rather have the 4th in 2012 but in draft point value it's the equivalent of a 6th round pick.........
 
Yeah, but still when you consider that more than a few fourth round picks aren't in the NFL two years later, and most sixth round picks don't even make it through camp, I think we got ripped off considering Cambell is a quai-starter in the league

It's probably the one bone I have with Allen/Shanny for this draft
 
I understand what the draft 'value chart' says, but arguing that a 4th round pick really isn't a 4th round pick because we can't use it for 2 years - well, that just strikes me as silly :) It's a 4th round pick and in 2 years will have the value of a 4th round pick. If we want to think of it as a CD that doesn't mature for 2 years, that's probably a better way of looking at it.

As for evaluating the fairness of that trade - Sarge, I thought you were a free market kind of a guy? The market determines value, not the seller, and apparently the market felt JC was a marginally-talented QB. The fact that some Redskins fans felt he had true 'potential' and that we elected to hitch our wagon to JC for a few years and have him entrenched as our 'starter' doesn't mean that he had the skills to justify those things or that other teams would have made the same decisions. In fact, that JC has had ample opportunity to demonstrate he's a 'starting QB' in this league, yet still hasn't swayed potential 'courters', nor Mike Shanahan that he's got mad skills - well, that tells you all you ever needed to know.

He's a marginally talented QB. We made it clear he wasn't going to be a Redskin this season when we brought in McNabb. And when you've got those 2 facts in front of you, you should expect to get something like a 4th round pick for that player. Truthfully, I'm pleased we got something for him - I was prepared for us to have to release him without any compensation. I am happy we've resolved the QB issue prior to 2010 preparations really getting underway.

Totally agree. Campbell has been "available" to any team really interested in him for two years. Last year the NFL spoke loud and clear during the Cutler Carousel Conundrum, with teams preferring Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn, practically anybody, over Jason Campbell. In a league starved for quality starting quarterbacks, the fact that not one team was prepared to give anything even remotely approaching what so many Redskins fans thought he was worth over a two-year span just screams out.

The evidence is there ... one just has to recognize it.
 
Agree. When no other team wants JC for any decent compensation, to get a 4th is great. Good work to Allen and Shanny.

It's sad how many fans still seem to think he was worth more. Homerism at its best (or is it worst?).

Oh, I don't necesarily think he was worth more. I'm just nervous with nobody but Rex Grossman on the bench. We still have a glaring hole at RT and in my opinion center, and as much as I hate to say it, I don't think McNAbb makes it 16 games.

If it's me, I'm looking at a 4th round pick, or a quasi-adaquate backup. Doesn't equate to me

But it's all moot now. I hope JC does well, although I think he's going into just as big a circus as we've had here the past few years
 
If the rumored trade talks for Brown of NO come to fruition, he becomes our LT with Williams at RT for a couple of years. With Hicks able to play at least 4 positions, we'd be pretty set, even if Heyer is still around.

I think you're forgetting football Jesus on the bench, aren't you? :)

Rex looked decent in Kyle's system last year, Kyle seems comfortable with him, so I'm good with that.

As for Campbell's worth, if we don't let him go this year, our leverage drops even more. Sure, we could have gotten a little more than a 4th 2 years ago (maybe), but we weren't sure (as was the rest of the league) if he would be successful with us as a starter.
