Looking around the landscape of the NFL, this kind of news is a bit more demanding of attention than the Around the NFL board. Good place to be tracking this around the league as it appears to inevitably be on a course to effect us.

Lets please keep this conversation strictly to the effect it has on football and not venture into some other angles... .

So many of these bunk tests going about

If an unmasked coach comes near a ref its a 15 yarder, & possibly more

The PCR test (that's the more involved one where are actually looking for viral dna - is incredibly accurate with almost no false positives. However, the bad news is, the false negative rates can be very high (ie... you have the virus but the test says you don't). Some studies say it can be as low as 2% and as high as 30%. To me, that's more concerning.

The quick test also has a near zero false positive rate, but an even higher false negative rate than the PCR test (up to 50%).

Finally, the antibody test (which shows if you have been exposed to the virus, not whether you are 'infected') is more hit or miss, mostly because it takes a few weeks to develop antibodies even if you are exposed, and there's not good science yet on how long antibodies will remain if you do produce them.

So - generally speaking, it's extremely unlikely you'll show up positive but in fact not have the virus. It is far more likely that you get the 'all clear' but in fact have the virus (probably because it requires a certain viral 'load' to be present to be detected in some patients).

Take that for what you like :)

I did the nasal swab this summer and that shit is up against your brain when they start swiping. You tear up pretty quick.

not sure which test it was but it took 3 days to get the results

I've had the antibody test 5 times (always negative) and I work on a hospital unit with patients (including one's who are recovering from COVID) every week. The fact that I have yet (knock on wood) to even be exposed has been somewhat encouraging. We all wear masks continuously and wash our hands, and if we are working closely with a patient, wear face shields.

I live in an area of Va with a realllllly low contagion rate and no one exactly goes out of his or her way to avoid contact.

I know of one anecdotal case. Otherwise, I know literally no one who has even been sick.

An aspect not many people are talking about

Welcome to the rest of America. Do they have any clue as to how many folks have been furloughed, fired, lost their business, or seen their revenue cut in half this year?

To be fair I have not heard a single current player complain or ask about pay. Schwartz is a former player.

That's a fair point. But it's coming. And when it does, I'll light them up then :)

I don't want this to come off as making light of anything but getting football on Tuesday or two Monday games as a result of covid has been beneficial for my viewing habits

I agree. My wife, not so much.

Falcons shutting down their facility reporting positive tests...

Atlanta's statement says 'one new' positive test but some reporting only 1 positive test total
