Oh he's a better back than McNichols and when given opportunity, he's shown that. But he's a Ron pick so he gets evaluated with a jaundiced eye.

I think McNichols is a much stronger back but that’s just me
 
CRod has 26 attempts with 150 yards rushing - 5.7 ypc
McNicholes has 50 attempts with 249 yards rushing - 4.9 ypc

Not bad for either RB but I take CRod over McNichols.

JD was having fun again and it didn't look like he was favoring his ribs anymore either.

Was our three-game slump due to JD rib's or was it the Kingsbury mid-season slump? My guess is that it was the ribs, and we will be a force to be reckoned with going forward.
 
The ribs probably had something to do with Pittsburgh, maybe some in Philly, but I would actually guess a lot less so. Some of it is just him being a rookie, going against some top defenses, and them doing what they can to frustrate him. He made some bad calls on how he was throwing, and the extremely strong Eagles pass defense was taking anything long away.

There are many ways to frustrate a less experienced competitor of any sport. One of those things is forcing them to take small gains or lesser value options that take along time to add up, and take more sustained execution to payoff as points. What I have seen of the evaluation before is that is what defenses starting doing (including the Titans from what I could tell). As he matures, he'll get less frustrated by not being able to blow the lid off consistently...which was not a problem at the beginning of the season with the lesser defenses we faced.

I can honestly say I'm okay with a rookie QB going through that sort of maturation, and overall looking good while doing it. Nobody likes losing, and we've had to deal with too much of it over the past decades, but the eye test has to tell you that now is different at some point. The old biases just don't work on this team, and they are overperforming their skill level on a regular basis....which is a result of good coaching. They will get beat because of lacking talent on occasion, and that will suck (especially when injuries are involved, because what are you going to do?) but the coaches this year have done a phenomenal job at picking up the pieces left by Snyder and Rivera.

Realize the credit, recognize the process, and learn again to enjoy the ride of a season, where sometimes things go your way, sometimes they don't, but thinking you are going to lose because of a few (even more than a few!) bad plays when you are up by 3 scores may be saying more about the headspace so many fans are in than about the team.

Thank you for taking the time each week to do this. As long as I lurked on the other site and now a newbie here I've always respected your insights after each game. I think I speak for most people here that I really hope we continue to see the next day posts for a long long time
 
Not saying anything novel, but I think there were two factors to Daniels' slump.

1) the ribs which led to Kingsbury playcalling a bit more conservatively to protect him.
2) defenses figuring out an effective plan A against him

One thing we've noted when watching players flash is that after a time the NFL figures out what they do well and they scheme to take that away. The good and great players can counter that. In other words, if a wide receiver is blowing past defenders that speed can be partly neutralized by scheme, but if the receiver then adds more routes, becomes a better route runner, or is schemed to play from different positions (left, right, and slot) then that defensive tactic is countered. Terry is a great example of this. He showed that Plan A can be effective at slowing him down at times, they can scheme him open so the help doesn't get there in time.

I remember a report from last year that coaches felt he was their best back in pass protection… but I’d guess Ekeler and McNichols are both better at it?
IMO, he’s a great backup to Robinson as he fits the same mold, even if he’s not a good choice to be the #2/complementary back to Robinson.

I wonder what the record is for most team rushing yards without a 1,000 yard rusher. We might be in play for that one. I think coaches will want to split the rock more with CRod to help keep BRob healthy into the playoff push.

I'd love to re-sign Wagner and Fowler. The rest can be replaced. Ertz has been a pleasant surprise, but we need to see what we have in Sinnott. I'm hoping they come out of the bye with Luke McCaffrey taking more of Dyami's snaps because Dyami still is not it. We have so much cap room, especially with Forbes getting claimed off waivers and Jon Allen likely released. We have to throw money around as the window is obviously now.

Our top two corners by snaps were Noah Ig. And Mike Sainristil. Third was BSJ. Did they have Noah Ig play some outside? Wonder if we still see Sainristil at outside corner once Lattimore comes back.

There is a drastic difference in quality in the offense when JD5 and Robinson are both healthy. We are a dominant run team in that situation, probably only 3rd to Philly and Baltimore in run game lethality. But if one of them are dinged up, the offensive effectiveness drops and if both of them are hurting, its painful to watch(see the Philly game and most of the Dallas game).

I expect a late season winning streak now with both healthy post bye. 12-5 isn't out of the question. It smells like 2005/2007 where we go on late win streaks due to a dominant run game and a defense that figures it out, except this time we had a great start to the season to allow us to have a strong end of season record. Just a shame Philly is so good, because 12-5 is generally good enough to win divisions.

Predicting a rematch of Week 1 in Tampa in the first round with things going differently this time. See y'all in Detroit in the Divisional Round.
