Next Day Thread: Patriots Pre-Season

Regarding the development of QBs...

It has been mentioned several times that Washington invested in the VR program that Jayden was using prior to being drafted, and that he still uses it to this day. It seems clear that this has helped him tremendously in his on-field in-game processing times. This does seem like the perfect tool to be using to coach/train Hartman, because his processing looked awful during the Pats game. I've heard nothing about it being used as a tool outside of Jayden though. Has anyone else heard otherwise?

This makes me wonder if teams should hire a "practice squad" coach. Someone who's job is specifically to work with and train up those deep bench developmental guys.
I get that point. The coaching staff is already pretty big and seems like even the PS players should get plenty of attention. For the QBs for instance, they should get coaching coverage not only from the head coach and offensive coordinators but the strength and conditioning, offensive quality control, pass and run game coordinators, player development, QB and Asst QB. They are all touching all of the players

Did I read somewhere that he got a hair cut? I haven't seen a recent picture and missed the game.

If he got a haircut, then you're 100% right, no reason to keep him around.

If he didn't, man, that's some sweet hair. I'd keep him around just for moisturizing advice.

Somebody on ES back in the day wrote a post about only Ugly QBs win anything. Which clearly is not true because Tom Brady exists. I don't remember who wrote that. But it was funny.
That would be the Forehead Ugly QB argument and it's mostly true.

Mostly? Hmmm. I think we need to start a new analytics based thread on the topic.

So would Inflate-a-Face be the original poster child for this theory?

I’m interested to see how many more of our 30 who sat suit up this week.

I understand not risking players in preseason, but getting some positive film, even a drive, is a morale boost. Even if just a tiny one.

I put this as an open question in the Gameday thread for the Bengals game.

I'm interested to see how they play this. I do wonder if basically Tunsil's health determines the entire strategy. If he can't go, then they sit basically the entire first string offense, because if he isn't playing, Jayden isn't playing, and ergo, why would you play Deebo and Brian Robinson, for example.

I personally think some of the 30 will play.

Personally, I'd play, if maybe not for more than a series or two, everybody who is capable of playing. Because going from January to September without a "live" rep seems like a long time. There's something different about live reps in games than practices and scrimmages.

I think Daniels, Tunsil, Deebo, Luvu, Wagner, Biadasz and Payne not playing makes some sense (among a few others). But guys like Robinson should be getting reps.

I agree, if nothing else because i'm not 100% sold BRob even has an offer for another contract. At this point he's been fine, but he hasn't separated himself. Ekeler is aging and the two youngins we saw last week looked like they could easily take the load of BRob and even improve upon our current situation. I want to see Robinson getting reps and attempting to prove he's the guy.

Yeah, I agree. I think guys in depth chart or role battles will play.

I'd actually like to see all the WRs play just a few snaps, just 'cause it would be good to get them reps together. But they need to be careful with Deebo and Noah for health reasons, and until Terry gets back into camp, they are #1 and #2 on the depth chart.

Agreed with one question. Should Biadasz get some reps, not only for himself but for the rest of the OL to assist in them jelling?

Potentially. That is an in-house question, really and we have no way of knowing. But that is definitely a possibility.
