Hot tip. Harris is our guy but he’s an NFL owner. NFL owners are billionaires. Billionaires almost without exception are the biggest losers on planet earth and are almost entirely insulated from ever realizing it. He will never be anyone’s savior, but he can enable much joy for us if he does things well. We can only hope that our particular greedy loser does things we like in a manner that we like, and that’s basically it. It’s best not to dwell too much on the idea of NFL owners as long as they don’t get in the way of your enjoyment of the product (which happens all too frequently), otherwise it pretty much ruins the sport for you. All fans (except the Packers I guess) must deal with this, so we must just hope we have one of the least bad ones.
I want to see him hire experts, spend as much of his dragon hoard on my team as he can, and stay out of the way and not cause controversy. It’s basically the best we can hope for. But I don’t hope he’s going to “do the right thing” or “respect the fans” or “honor the legacy of the thing he’s bought” because I already know what he is and have to accept it. I just want what’s in his best interest as an insatiable businessman to line up with what’s in my best interest as a fan often enough to win some Super Bowls. That’s a realistic hope.
