I went ahead and did the work myself. Again, they are both black, that’s all they have in common.

Are we not counting the yellow/gold along with the black in the similarities?

To me, it's the combo that makes them look like vomit inducing Steelers knock-offs. Black and primarily burgundy as the second color would be much better.

Yes, they both use yellow as a secondary color, but I see them as completely different looking jerseys. There is plenty that people can reasonably find to criticize in the new brand, but saying we shouldn’t have the black unis because they “look like the Steelers” IMO just isn’t accurate.

Overall, I’m probably old-school, but I prefer more consistency in the uniforms. Home and away and that’s it, I don’t want to be Oregon with a different uniform every week.

The ravens should definitely avoid the all purple look 🤮

But I do think the black alternates for the ravens, and also the Falcons, look good. I definitely liked them when they came out like 20 years ago. A lot of other teams followed suit, with mixed results. You would think the fad was worn out by now, but I guess not. I’d like to see us come up with something more original if we must have an alternate jersey.

Edit to add: I think the Black alts work best for teams that already have black in their color scheme even if as a secondary color. Teams like us who never had black as a color it doesn’t work well for. Just my opinion.

I'm pretty sure those were 'color rush' years where the league forced every team to play at least once on Thur night, and they had a uniform specific to that game. That was the year we had those all yellow abominations and we actually never wore them

One good thing from Bruce Allen was his refusal to wear that crap. We went with Burgundy Jerseys over Burgundy Pants instead.

I agree with this. I think the other alternative shown would further distance them from Steelers comparisons. I do think reversing the color of the numbers looks better as well.

In fairness, some of these are just sock variants, which it's neat to keep track of on the Gridiron Uniform Database, I don't actually think it should really count as a different uniform...

I don’t think it will look that much like the Cardinals with burgundy numbers (trimmed in yellow) instead of red. You don’t really associate black with the Cardinals. They are just another team of many with black jerseys. You can’t look like the Cardinals without red.

TBH, I’m not sure why I’m even talking about it. I’d rather not have them at all. I think black jerseys have become trite. Too many teams have them, and we came late to the party. If feels forced. Put that marketing team to work and have them come up with something original please. It’s bad enough that we have such a boring name.

True. I mean, people may just be buying them because the other versions are worse, but yeah if they’re selling well (or at least better than they think they can do with an alternative) they’re going to keep them. Doesn’t make them any less boring and unoriginal. I’m not gonna lose any sleep if we keep them, but some of the tweaks being discussed would be nice.

My impression, and only my impression is that people do like them because they are black. Would a gold sell as well? My instinct is to say no I don’t think so.

I remember seeing some aftermarket black Redskins jerseys around back in the day as well, especially at the stadium. There have always been fans who like that style.

Quite honestly if we kept the black as is, but changed the burgundy and white back to exactly the same as they were during the Redskins years except they say Commanders or even Washington…I still don’t know if the black would sell less. Maybe we will get the chance to find out.

Nevermind, the color has no bearing apparently. Jayden is popular regardless of which jersey style. If you switch from one style to the other it still states the same thing.

Here is the “tundra white” version of the jersey. Maybe it’s just me but this one reminds me the most of the old Redskins white jersey.
