(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

This even isn’t going out on limb…I could do 100% better and I’m an old-head, but…I do have artistic taste. I guess that’s not a consideration.

If that actually is the draft hat, then all teams will have the same hideous look. The NFL makes all their gear the exact same changing only colors, logos, and names. I’ve never had fashion sense, but I can tell I’m getting old when I see ugly stuff like this and wonder who would ever wear this.

I just don’t get why it’s so hard to come up with great swag. Ive seen stuff posted here today that is 100x more visually appealing than most of the Washington swag. And yeah, I know the team isn’t designing this stuff but it’s still godawful…
For real. It looks like the cheap knockoffs you run into at a flea market.

^^^that looks like a veterans style hat, especially with the leaf clusters on the bill. I"m a bit skeptical on that hat. Where did the Hog pin come from? lol
I am skeptical too, there's no way these guys are that tone-deaf and mixed up. The hog pin was the part for me too! It's like "OK this is horrible" and then when you see that hog, "What the??"

For those of you who don’t like Tuddy take heart. He is getting altered as well.

1) Make the burgundy and white jerseys basically identical to our originals (understanding that there were various incarnations of those) with a logo and name swap.

2) Modify the logo to add a feather and / or spear(s) as an homage to the old team and logo

3) Use the old fight song, let the fans sing the old lyrics with a wink and nod

4) Tuddy is a nothing burger, no one cares.... so if the kids like him.... meh, whatever

5) Push the league to allow a Redskins throwback uniform.... if they are dead set on "No Redskins" then literally just use the old uniforms and swap Redskins for "Washington" and use the old logo - It's not racist (per the family of the one pictured)

Real. From @kvalenzuela of Fox Sports from New Orleans. For those who don’t know or haven’t figured it out yet…I don’t post bs or info from non-reputable sources.

I honestly thought you were pulling our leg man lol. Definitely a different hat. Old school look for sure

Throwing this out there. What about the "W" with a feather. I'm no artist but make a "W" like the "R" we used back in 1971 with the feather. On second thought. no go with the Senator's logo.

Not my style.
Yep, just thought it was a joke of some sort. I can't get over the thinking on the hog. Sometimes you just scratch your head. If this was 2022, I'd say Snyder Jr was giving inputs again... maybe one of the Harris kids?

I guess if you are going to use a pin the Hog makes sense for us, just like the crab makes sense for the Ravens. Tuddy approves, lol

I thought very long and hard about this. A whole 1 minute worth after reading the thread title. I came to the conclusion that there is nothing good about this brand or name. Nothing that excites me (the players, staff and FO do excite me though). Nothing that stirs up any positive emotion. Nothing that I would ever wear or buy. I do graphic design as a living and literally everything Commanders design related is so amateur boring (and that's being kind). It will always be Redskins for me even if Harris hits a homerun with all future branding decisions. I'll never buy it. It will just be lipstick on a Major Tuddy.

But that's me. HTTR4LIFE

There is nothing I like.

I don’t mind the W but I prefer it if it was inside a circle like our old logo was.

We should return to the uniform of champions.

The helmet, as mentioned should return to the old stripes with yellow face mask and the circle around the W.

Return the fight song to its original rhythm and tweak the wording to match the rhythm.

That’s it.

In the category of “I don’t get it” is the hate the mascot gets. It’s pathological. The thing was and is meant for kids. Other teams have it too. I saw “Major Tuddy” at the pro bowl a few years ago with the other mascots and it fit right in with the others. His design is not out of line with any of the others and in fact our mascot is refreshing in that he’s a hog as opposed to yet another boring cat or bird mascot. And if the response is “we shouldn’t have a mascot” I don’t know what to tell you. Everyone does and ours is no better or worse than the caps eagle or the goofy big head presidents thing the Nationals do.

Right now, their brand is winning and never saying die. Their brand is winning the game with five seconds or less left on the clock.

That's not a bad brand. It's a little cheesy like the old TV episodes of MIssion Impossible, Get Smart, or The Six Million Dollar Man, but it's much better than the glass jawed patsy brand that the NFL knew us by for thirty years.

I’m excited to see what they do to tweak the jerseys and overall brand. I want a burgundy Luvu jersey but now want to hold off and see what’s new

I know the fanbase will push for as much Redskins elements as possible for the foreseeable future.
But there has to be a point where we need to have the Commanders name/brand stand on its own.
If we were a name that faintly hearkens back to the Redskins, then we would have a much easier attempt to blend past and present branding together.
We however do not have a name that in any way reminds people of Redskins. So the most fans can do is demand to make things LOOK like the Redskins.

Uniforms and even helmets are the easiest things WSH can do so no harm there.

But logos, primary or secondary, should be made independently of a Redskins connection (team colors are the exception).
Now I get it, I was a name changer, I was on team (Red)Wolves. But the team stated that spears and feathers were NA imagery no matter how you spin it, and that it is not worth the money or time to spend in trademark court for (Red)Wolves.

We ALL dislike the name Commanders, not just because of how unappealing it is, but because we the fans had never campaigned for it. Even Brave was campaigned by the fans more than Commanders.
I heard Josh Harris not mention the fans embracing the name, and I am not surprised. We all feel no connection to a name we didn't want in the first place; and I think any expansion of the Commanders brand now HAS to come from the fans. The team HAS to promote the fans who took an impossible task of finding a way to make Commanders brand TOLERABLE. I mean I am not campaigning to #ExpandtheBrand because I like the name. I am doing this because I DON'T like the name. If I am gonna have to tolerate this name for the next 90 years, I want a brand that excites me whether the team is winning or losing. Players and coaches come and go; but the brand remains. And I want to wear a Commanders brand with pride and not explain it to strangers.

Some won't accept Commanders because Snyder did it, even claim he did it intentionally. But Snyder was such a bad owner that not only did he foolishly abandon the Washington Warriors trademark before Golden State won everything, but he got people so mad that they finally used the power of (no merch) money to take away the one thing he and the fans held dear: the name Redskins. I am certain that if the Redskins name wasn't removed, Snyder would still be here. While we have to suffer his toxic afternath with the loss of Redskins as our team name, we need to heal the pain with trying to make Commanders work. And the name will work best if we don't keep weighing it down with too many past Redskins traits.

We are always going to remind the world we were the Redskins; that is forever. But we need to stop asking ourselves who we are (like the Left Hand up song asks) and proudly say (independent of team performance) we are the Commanders!

It's like I say: Remember who we were, Take command of who we are.
