(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

Josh Harris says Commanders new uniforms will embrace and update the past

" Our uniforms are similar,” Harris said. “I mean, the Super Bowl Era uniforms — there are many ways to honor our past.”

" I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but we’re gonna continue to go back and try to embrace our past, but then update it,” Harris said. “So stay tuned.”

I hope they abandon the black uniforms and go with 100% burgundy and a new helmet with some sort of spear theme instead. Spear + feather. Not exactly below but something new and respecting our heritage. Abandon all DS era designs, 100%

That spear logo is so boring. I get that it is ‘part of our legacy’ but only in the strictest sense because its use is so far in the distant past. It also is awkward because the Native American imagery does not make any sense paired with ‘Commanders’ (especially if you use the feather).

If I were them, I would stop trying so hard to jam ‘Commanders’ and our previous branding together because it just inherently doesn’t work.

If they want to bridge to the past why not just incorporate the old Indian head logo patch into the jersey. That way it becomes more about a ‘tribute’ to our past vs trying to come up with some lame way to merge the old brand with ‘Commanders’.

Just stick the Indian head logo back on the helmet, or is that a complete no go ?

I mean, no need to reference the horrible ‘C’ on the unis anywhere. Let it just be a name by default, for now.

I think they might at some point revive the full Redskins uniform (minus the label ‘Redskins’) as a throwback uniform but they won’t ever revert back to it as the base uniform. Aside from the Native American imagery issue, it makes ZERO sense when paired with ‘Commanders’.

They’ve been using more of a Roman spear aesthetic in other branding photos the past year or so, rather than the old NA-aesthetic spear with the feather. For the people who think that could be the secret alternate helmet, I think they assume it’s that new Roman vibe spear.

I’d have to see it to have an opinion, not just fan mock-ups. I always liked that spear throwback in theory but I never liked how the burgundy was darker/muddier back then rather than the slightly brighter burgundy of the Gibbs 2 years. I did like how the gold was more of an actual gold though, rather than a muted yellow

How fan feedback directly influenced the new uniform design process

Team sources indicate that sophisticated fan designs on social media actively functioned as a communal focus group for the NFL and Nike.

" I'm blown away, actually, by how sophisticated fans are at creating uniform closets and almost dangerously (in a good way) social media posts.” In fact, the source shared, those posts—your posts—sometimes make their way into the meeting rooms, and while the team may not be taking them as blueprints, they are seen and considered as feedback and as a sort of communal focus group.

Call it modern history, call it a rebranding of sorts, though Harris reiterated yet again that the team is committed to the Commanders moniker.

Harris and Co. are gonna do what Harris and Co. are gonna do. If they really were listening to the fan base we'd be renaming this team back to the Washington Redskins.

Probably because there are people who go out of their way to ignore that the official NFL merchandise producers refused to sell the old name's gear, and that a cool championship run has not actually changed those companies' decisions.

What question is this the answer to ?

The question of why it seems like Harris is answering questions about the name so often. Because fans won't let it die, so reporters won't let it die.

I guess the point could be made that the team could switch to a different name, but the post above yours is the reason why that won't happen either: There is no name that everyone will be happy with except the old one, which merchandise sellers have shut down. The team played the name game, and the team lost when Snyder was in charge. But the problem is that there is no winning the name game anyway.

That's probaby true, but is there one that would go over better than Commanders ?
Maybe. No way to know without doing it and getting all the fans' reactions afterwards, which would be a really expensive experiment that could end in failure with people hating the newer name more. I loved the Redwolves name idea myself, others found it forced or childish. Others like the Hogs, I don't like it for the same reason. Warriors would be skirting awfully close to the old name and need the merchandise sellers' approval. Many other names, all with the same problems that make people complain that the owner should take a 4th name in 7 years. Just when the team is becoming a steady organization, a 4th name change in 7 years for a slightly more popular name isn't worth it.

I think what some fans had a problem with is, if they knew that going in, they should have let the fans know, instead of making it sound like a real possibility with Harris & Rales saying things like " We're going to do some testing ", and " It's not about what we want, it's about the fans.".

But, then again, maybe the league put down the idea, who knows.
