New Ownership Depot

Man, it feels good to be in a new era.

So far this ownership group is saying and doing all the right things. I watched as much of the footage from the introductory conference/pep-rally things, and the thing that struck me the most (other than I spent the whole time smiling!) is taht I really couldn't fault it. Now maybe I was just on a buzz because Dan's gone, but when was the last time the team pulled off an event without shooting themselves in the foot somehow?
How different in vibe was this to when they unveiled the branding a year or so ago? That felt so low key and amateurish, while this just felt exciting and slick.

The absolutely weirdest thing to see was Josh Harris high fiving with the crowd. Weird but good. Could you EVER see Dan doing that? (I mean in the latter days he'd have been dragged into the crowd and beaten to a pulp, but even in the early days he's never been a 'man of the people' kind of owner.)

It was a masterstroke to sign the rookies on the very first day, and to unveil the new railings. Simple things, but it sends a message. They're getting things done.
I totally expect them to spend a crapload of cash upgrading Fedex for the short term as well.

They also have been VERY careful to bring the old alumni onside and to talk a lot about tradition and how this team used to be a powerhouse. Makes me feel comfortable about our identity moving forward. We may never be the Redskins in name again, but I feel like we'll always be the Burgundy and Gold. That matters to this fan base.

New Era. Different Era!

I get the definite vibe that a name change is coming. They've not overtly said it, but they certainly are leaving the door wedged wide open for it.

I get the impression that we may be about to go through the whole 'fan engagement' thing again about names etc, but where as the previous one really just felt like lip-service (and landing on the name Commanders felt so contrived!) I feel like this one may be genuine. Be interesting to see how they do it. I know Redskins isn't coming back, but damn they can do better than Commanders and this pitiful W logo.

Anyway, to cut a long story short...

I haven't been this excited for a season in a long time! At this point I'm not even sure I care too much about how our team pans out this season, because this feels like a new beginning. The start of a new path.

Maybe it’s too nerdy, but I’d dig the Washington Wyvern.

You have the cool illiteration thing, dragon imagery that could look slick in a fiery burgundy and gold, and it’d be unique in pro sports.

The NFL rule about changing of team names/logos was clarified during the week.

Teams can only change the names/logos with approval after a waiting period of 5 years UNLESS the team has a new owner :eclipsee-victoria:

So, Harris and Co. can change the name and no doubt the NFL/Goodell would be just as happy to wash all traces of Snyder away.

When Harris was asked about how he felt about the name at his presser, he said that it ultimately doesn't matter what he thinks about it, what matters is what the fans think about it. Wright has now basically echoed those same words.

Given the 24 year prison sentence we had as fans, a name change would go a long way towards establishing some much needed good will.

There is no way at this point that you can say these things publicly and then turn around a year or two later and say, no we are good with the name. The fan disappointment after dangling a carrot would be off the charts. I think we have reached the point of no return and a new name will be upon us in due time.

Hail to the Football Club?🤷

I actually will give credit to Wright for this statement. Given his central role in the selection of ‘Commanders’ I’m glad to see he senses the fan sentiment on the name.

Camp just broke, we're seeing Jim Irsay vs Jonathan Taylor, and Sean Payton vs the Jets. Can I just say it's a breath of fresh air that we're not involved in either one of those off field issues?

Don't forget Zack Martin vs Jerruh

Yes it is nice isn't it

Josh Harris threw out the first pitch at Nats Park yesterday
