Tremendous example of taking a cover tune and successfully converting it to a completely different genre - in this case, becoming Blues-Rock


 
This contribution was inspired by my recollection of RedWolf asking multiple times, "Anyone into Latino music ?"

This is a Latin Rock band that sounds exactly like a Spanish version of The Police.
It's not A.I. ...but an actual Latin Rock band that (in a lot of their songs) just happens to sound just like The Police ; both musically and vocally.
This may not be the best example, but here's one

That kinda tells us how insanely great that John Bonham was ;
Once Bonham died, that instantly was the end of Zep, as well.
How often do you hear of a band, especially a great one, dis-banding forever, for the sole reason that the drummer was lost ?

I'm not sayin Bonham is or isn't better than Peart. For one thing, that would be opening a can of (subjective) worms.
But it speaks volumes and volumes, of Bonham's talent, how a band could lose a drummer and decide to never play again for that sole reason.

I'm just a drummer, but I can see why Jimi Hendrix was quoted as saying this guy was the "greatest guitar player in the universe". Jimi went on to say in his own words, this young dude was better than JImi.
I could listen and watch him play this, over and over.

Jimi LOVED Billy Gibbons...at 16 yo! Jimi was also a huge Buddy Guy fan as well.

I saw Chicago about 2 years ago at the Hard Rock Hotel in Fort Lauderdale and they were nothing like that at all.

I heard Hendrix at 8 years old and have been playing guitar because of him for 53 years. He was my total inspiration. I actually have a very good relationship with Roger Mayer who was his tech! Google Roger Mayer Hendrix 😉

IMO, the best vocal performance by a drummer, ever. I know how difficult this dual feat is.

It's one thing to sing like this. Then throw in the fact, a drummer uses all 4 limbs coordination-wise, compared to other musicians using 2 limbs.

He really nails it starting at 1:30

Any Budgie fans here?
I listened to them a lot, back in the late 70's & early 80's at the behest of an Italian buddy of mine who worshipped the band back then.
I listened occasionally since then but, recently, I've been listening to them a lot.
In a nutshell they're a Welsh heavy metal band.
They inspired Metallica, who covered "Breadfan" I read that Van Halen, Soundgarden, Iron Maiden – have covered Budgie songs as well.
