Mock Drafts Thread

I don't see how shanahan can possibly pass on julio jones. Orakpos can be shut down, and rendered pretty meaningless as we saw last season in the win/loss column.

Now if jones really is the perfect combo of a young TO talent, combined with the blazing speed of a desean jackson, and the blocking ability and toughness of Heinz Ward.......you have the perfect weapon. There is at least one Orakpo every draft, and there will be more next year. The same can't be said for the ultimate receiver.

Jones has injury issues based on his physical play. He's been injured every year at 'Bama and is coming off two broken limbs (broken hand in season, from foot discovered at combine).

I personally don't like the Skins drafting for WR this early. for every Art Monk the Skins lately have had Desmond Howard, Michael Westbrook and Rod Gardner. I'm not even throwing in Thomas and Kelly (another walking wounded).

If the Skins are convinced Jones can stay healthy then I have to trust Shanny but I have serious concerns about Jones' health. I like AJ Green much better though I doubt he'll be there at #10.

I wouldn't be too concerned about his health. Unlike Kelly, he doesn't have a bad knee, or anything that would seem to get worse with time.

And he really can't be compared to a Kelly(weak conference) or a Devin Thomas(one year in a weak conference.) He didn't rack up stats against a bunch of players that will never see a NFL sideline.

He racked them up against the best. He reminds me of Calvin Johnson in that regard. It's how you knew Calvin Johnson was worth a top pick. And it's how you knew that Kelly and Thomas likely weren't.

I also love the lines. And believe that winning begins there. On both sides of the ball, and God knows we have some holes to fill.

But the truth is, Orakpo isn't great in space, or defending against the pass. It isn't hard to lessen his impact in a game.

Now the great receivers? Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, the TOs, Randy Moss in their prime types.....you can't remove them from a game. And unlike Desean Jackson, Jones has size and strength. He can burn like Jackson, yet punish like Heinz Ward.

That type of player goes top 3 in most years. Calvin Johnson(second) and Andre Johnson(third) are good examples. You can argue that he is more physically gifted than either of those players were at his age.

If by some miracle he is there at 10.....I just don't see how you can pass that up. Unless you are willing to spend a top 3 pick on a similiar player next year--if one is even available.

I promise you, there will be another Robert Quinn available at 10 next year. A guy who, in your words, "looks like he'll be able to transition to OLB." Do we need to gamble a 10 on a guy we hope will be able to transition? Round peg, square hole? No thank you.

Why even take the chance when we have so many holes to fill? Why gamble on a guy we hope can transition, versus a guy who is already great at the position he'll be asked to play?

Every draft has a Quinn project available at 10. But a Jones available at 10 next year? I seriously doubt it.

I've heard good things about Jones before, but comparing him to Calvin & Andre Johnson, the two best WRs in the entire league? My goodness, McD5 - you *might* be overrating him a TAD, lol.

I think a good and fair comparison to Julio is A Bolden.

I do not see Jones going to us at 10. I think we try our darndest to trade out of that spot. I think it will happen. We need to gain third and fourth round picks.

If we trade back with NE, I think we will trade that 1st rd pick as well. It is projected that many of the top second round teams are going to try to get back into the first. We could take advantage of that. We can draft a bunch of solid players instead of one projected superstar......this is what I would like to see happen.

Honestly, WR is the least of my worries at the moment.

I think Jones is our backup option. If we can trade down then I think we will and look at Phil Taylor or another D lineman with value. If we pick at ten then the only other two options I see are Quinn or Prince Am... uh Prince. If we are pretty sure Carlos Rogers isn't coming back then Prince makes since. If Quinn is there I could see us going in that direction. Although I think he is long gone.
I just don't see NE being our trading partner. They have been trading down for years I don’t see them all of a sudden deciding to change their way of doing things.

NE has not reached the Super Bowl in several years now and they are in need of plugging a few holes. With 3 picks in the top 33 of this year's draft, they have plenty of ammunition to pull the trigger if they see a player that entices them enough. It is not their m/o but they need to infuse a super star on the defensive side of the ball.

Don’t get me wrong it seems like a perfect marriage. NE needs an elite player, like a passrusher or maybe even Julio Jones and we need more picks. I hope it works out but I am just not optimistic that it will.

Just to add my (unwanted) two cents on NE...

They've been trading down for years and the fans up there are actually getting tired of it. I have a friend up there who tells me the fans are tired of not winning the SB, and want Bill to make a big splash.

Not saying it will happen, but it certainly could.

Oh man, this is why I hate Boston fans with a passion. "We're tired of not winning the superbowl! Boo-hoo! 3 superbowls in 10 years wasn't enough! Fire Bill Belicheat!"

My god...what a bunch of Massholes!

Every year I watch the draft and the Patriots trade back. They continue to stockpile draft picks, but why?

To me to have all these picks and not use them is like someone that doesn't use their cell phone so not to use all their minutes.

Right? What's really funny is trying to have a conversation with them about karma kicking their ass because of Belichick's cheating and/or running up the score. Haven't won since, have they?

Yeah, agreed. I wonder sometimes if Belichick it too smart, and wants to be the smartest guy in the room. Given that ESPN dispenses BJ's upon request to him, not sure how much smarter he thinks people can think of him though.

If the Patriots were in our division instead of the Giants or something strange like that, they would easily be my least favorite fans. At least Philly fans don't pretend to be nice, lol.

A friend of mine is a Pats fan and he was cussing out Brady at the end of the season saying he sucks and he needs to get a divorce so he could focus more on football. I told him he was an idiot.

Two days later Brady wins MVP.

Not to say I haven't heard some completely ridiculous things come from the mouths (fingers?) of Redskins fans, but that one takes the cake.

I really do not like all the Julio Jones speculation. If he does fall to us, teams such as the Rams may want to trade up to grab him, but they will not trade with us, they will leap frog us and trade with Dallas. Which is a double whammy. I don't know why the Rams or another team would trade with us in order to grab Julio. If they are afraid we will pick him, won't they want to make sure we have no chance?

I will not be mad if we grab Julio, I just think there are more important positions to be filled on this team right now.

I have heard from a couple of different draft experts that the Skins are making it pretty clear that they want to trade out of the ten spot. That should mean that no one feels they should have to leap frog us. I could see Detroit moving up ahead of Houston to get Prince, so that could be another option.

I have heard the same thing Skinsfan76. However, if I was the Rams and I was in love with either Green or Jones, then I would not take the chance. I would bet that Dallas is willing to move back as well.

Also, I just read that if the Skins are at 10 then they are either taking a QB or a WR. This is per a St. Louis Paper that claims they have insider knowledge.

This is the month of disinformation. From here on out, I bet we will be interested in every single player.
