Mock Drafts Thread

I couldn't agree more and from what I saw Shanahan didn't give Williams a whole lot of help either. He was training Williams for the future.

Well, I am starting to feel like we should take Ponder at the back half of the first, if we can get him. If we don't, I am all for waiting until next years draft to grab a QB.

I think Grossman is serviceable for a couple of years. I know that makes some cringe, but I do not see the point in taking a QB with our first/second if we are not certain that the guy is a franchis QB. We are not in position to gamble. We must pick properly and be sure of our picks.

I think we will have a top ten draft pick next year. Hopefully, if things play out right, we can gather picks from this years draft to go with a full complement of picks next year. Then maybe, we will have ammunition to move up next year, if need be.

I do not see too many QBs in this draft that impress me mentally. I think the player that we aquire for the QB position has to be very cereberal. A QB has to be able to step up to the line and decipher a defense within seconds. We do not need the strong arm or super athletic QB. We need the guy with an above average arm, has enough ability to move in the pocket, but can make defenses pay for their mistakes. I think Ponder can do that. I think McElroy could do it mentally, but physically he is not there and may even go undrafted. Locker, I have soured on him because he does not seem all that smart. Maybe, I am wrong. I am starting to get the same impression from Dalton.

**Note, this post is only good for the next 10 seconds....after that I am allowed to change my mind for the hundreth time.

how about we swap number 1s with a team in the 20-30 rng with a promise for their #1 next year? I'd go for that if we accept the assumption that this upcoming season will be another disaster.

That would be wonderful, but it takes two to tango. If Ponder is in our sites, just my wishful thinking, it is rumored that the Jags may take him at 15/16, whichever pick they have.

I guess I do not care who we take as long as our office is darn sure that they are picking a solid player. I think by the time our 2nd round pick comes back around, the top QBs are going to be off the board...not that it really matters. I am really getting sour on this crop.

If no Ponder, I say we bolster the lines, grab some LB's, and a CB. No sexy picks. We will only see a good team once we have solid lines. Unfortunately, our picks are limited. Hopefully, we are doing a lot of wheeling and dealing.

I wouldn't write off Locker that quickly. When all is said and done, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the best QB of this draft class...now, who knows what the ceiling is for this group, but...

Looks like USC's Smith is visiting Redskins Park sometime in the next couple of weeks:

Back to back O-line picks in the first round? I might just fall over...

:claps: I would certainly have no problem with taking Smith if he slips past Dallas.

If we don't have any Free Agency period prior to the draft then this would make a lot of sense given that we don't know if Jamaal Brown will re-sign or if Shanny even wants him back. I'd be bummed if we gave up a high pick for the guy for ONE year and he wasn't totally healthy but Williams and Smith could hold down the fort for years.

I’m undecided on the current QB crop as well. All of them seem to have a question mark of some sort. Now I can honestly say I’m confused (please hold all jokes till the end).

Gabbert – The guy who has charged up many draft boards. Very impressive in interviews and at his workout at the combine but played in a gimmick offense in college. How long will it take him to adjust to playing under center? The list of guys who couldn’t make the transition from a spread offense to the NFL is a long one.

Newton – He’s a winner and has a lot of the physical tools you might want in a QB. His negative issues have been well documented.

Ponder – Smart, accurate. Questionable arm strength.

Locker – Good size, good arm. Accuracy issues. Questionable decision making.

Kaepernick – Good size and athleticism. Played in a gimmick offense in college.

I can’t go any farther than that as the only thing I know about most of the other guys is what I read from the “experts” analysis. Any of these guys will need to be in the right situation to be successful. I know that sounds like a bit of a no brainer but I think it’s way more important than most people think.

The question I ask myself is, "What guy in this draft resembles Matt Schaub?" He seemed to be the perfect guy for Little Shanny’s offense.

From SI – He was drafted in the 3rd round in 2004. Nine spots later than Cooley.

Ht., Wt.: 6'5½, 243
40 Time: 5.02
Grade: 3.42

POSITIVES: Competitive signal-caller best in the short or intermediate passing game. Quickly sets up on the pocket, patient and buys time. Good field awareness, knows where his receivers are on the field and takes a hit in order to get the pass off. Zips the ball into the seam, accurate on the crossing patterns and puts touch on throws when necessary.

NEGATIVES: Cannot escape the rush or make throws on the move. Lacks the pinpoint pass placement and loses accuracy the further out to the flanks he is asked to throw the ball. Lacks a big league arm and not accurate with the deep pass.

ANALYSIS: An efficient signal-caller that plays within himself, Schaub has a nice feel for the position and makes good decisions in the pocket. Has limitations but should fit in nicely as a third-stringer.

PROJECTION: Late Fifth Round

I'll add a little bit from what I have read Hog Fever. Almost all of these QB's are good all around athletes...with the exception of Mallett.

Gabbert - has been pretty poor with the long ball according to Pat Kirwan. He has only hit on 30% of his passes above 15 yards.....that is really poor. I am not aware of the talent around him. If this stat is true, why is he even considered a first round talent? I don't see it.

Ponder - showed fairly good arm strength at his pro day. There were a lot of comparisons to Chad Pennington because of the poor arm strength and the injury history, but that seems to have died down since his pro day. I have read that his arm was well above average. Also, this guy is working on his second master's degree at 23 years old...finished his bachelor's in 2 1/2 years. Knows how to take a snap from center.

Locker - Along with the accuracy issues, I think it would be a gamble to take him because he has also been drafted by the Angels. If there is a lockout this year, is this guy going to go to baseball? He says he has not played baseball in two years, but what would stop him from wanting to make some cash now? If he goes, it will set his footwork back. What if he goes and does well? That game is less physically demanding than football. Seems like the smart move would be to stay in baseball. I would take a flyer on him in the 4th round. It is a gamble to take Locker.

Also, and I know that this does not measure football intelligence, but he did below average on the Wonderlic. When I hear him speak he does not sound that intelligent. I keep going back to what Elway said about Shannahan's offense. The QB has to be smart or they will fail because Shannahan changes the offense weekly. I don't know that Locker could handle it.

Kaepernick - The reason I do not see us drafting him is because of the huge wind up. He has an arm, maybe the best in this draft (some would argue Mallet), but we need a quick release guy.

Dalton - I really like him as a passer. He has the arm strength and accuracy, but he comes from a spread offense and does not take snaps from center. I think his Wonderlic was low , and some of his interviews he seems like a good guy, but maybe not a quick thinker. That is pure speculation though. Also, because of the spread system, he will take a couple of years before he is ready to take snaps under center....which would not be a problem if he wasn't already 24 years old. So he is the starting QB by the time he is 27 or so? I don't think Shanny has that kind of time.

well...i like Lanky's idea vis Locker and yours vis Ponder. Doesn't pan out...agree totally. If we can nab three starters out this draft and 2-3 depth players.....good by me. we'll tarde the entire draft next season to get our QB!

One more thing about Locker...he had his pro day today. According to the NFL Network, he was accurate, but the day was very tailored to his skills. Nothing unusual for a Pro Day, but what I found interesting is he did not throw any passes outside the numbers. They are very hard throws, but that worries me. If he does not want to throw those passes without pressure, how can we expect him to do it during a game? He also only threw two deep passes, I believe they said 40 yards (could be wrong) but they were both incompletes.

They did finish up by saying that if you like Locker before, you will still like him. If you did not, he did nothing to improve his standing today. The whole cast agreed that he has trouble with accuracy and that trying to throw 60% in the pros when he only threw 54% in college is going to be a huge challenge.

I used to like him, but the more I have read about him and seen clips, the less I like. I hope he is not a Skin. I think I latched onto him because of the rumored Shannahan fascination.

One thing I will say is that his footwork looked better than expected with the limited views at the combine. Mike Mayock even took note of that during the drills.

I'm only for taking a QB if we trade back to do it. No QBs at 10!

I'm only for taking a QB if we trade back to do it. No QBs at 10!

This is how I feel too. I would even rather pick Julion Jones than a QB at 10, although I still think we need to address the lines first!

I am afraid a QB at this pick would be a reach!

Total reach at 10. So many front-7 playmakers on D will be available here - would be a HUGE mistake not to take one. Would be like 2005 all over again - Merriman & Ware were available, and we took Stone Hands. Not that 'Los hasn't been good for us, but imagine our D with Ware!

Oh, I agree. I was just pointing out I would rather have Julio Jones at 10 than any of the QB prospects in this draft. I think the offensive line should be a priority. If Tyron Smith is available at 10, we take him. He would make a great bookmark with Williams for the next ~5 years. I like a trade down scenario that could net us Mike Pouncey. Kid can play C or G. I still believe our biggest priority should be the offensive line, mainly because if we can get a run game going it would alleviate some of the pressure on our defense.

If we go defensive line, OK. Just for God's sake, please don't be foolish enough to reach on one of these QB's!

Good point Omniscient. My thoughts on Locker were “He would likely have been the number one selection overall last year. How much could his skills have fallen off?” The more I pay attention to the guy the more questions I have. I didn’t hear nearly the amount of questions directed his way last year either. His numbers this past season were comparable to his previous seasons. What changed? The fact his team didn’t win as many ballgames is the only big difference I see. I can’t believe this year’s crop of prospects is just so much better than last year.

So part of me wants him to have a huge fall so we could pick him up later in the draft and get a steal. While another part of me is just focusing on his shortcomings that have become more clear and would rather take a chance on someone else. The more I look at the skill set that we will probably be looking for the more I think Ponder might be the guy who fits what we want to do. Talk to me again in a week and my mind might have changed.

Now if you ask me if Ponder is worth the 10th pick that's a whole different story.

I guess my feeling is if you think that Ponder is the Qb of the future, then why not take him at 10? Especially, if you believe the Dolphins may grab him at 15 or the Jags at 16. Both teams are QB needy. Of course, he is the only QB that I have come to like.

What I would like to see play out is we trade back and are still able to draft Ponder. Then with our second round pick we choose the Florida State Center Rodney Hudson. From what I have read Hudson is just under 300 pounds and plays very well in space. He also plays with a lot of power. These two have played together for four years now. I think it would be very beneficial to all parties if they are kept together. It would make both of their transitions easier.

I heard Jim Mora Jr say yesterday that Philly may be a dark horse in the Locker sweepstakes. They will probably trade Kolb when given the chance, and Reid will definitely know how to use Locker.

I will take that a step further and say most of the QB's in this draft could use some time behind solid veterans. I would not be surprised to see Philly, NE, Giants, or Ind take a QB in this draft. Let them sit behind these vets for a couple of years and really learn.

I found something interesting, and kind of puzzling, whilst rummaging around for 'Skins news online.

The U. of Hawaii Pro Day was a couple days ago but the Redskins apparently weren't in attendance. What's puzzling to me is that apparently the Redskins were the only NFL team not to attend. I'm wondering....why did the Redskins skip this...any clues?

With Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson, Raiders director of college scouting Jon Kingdon, Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson and representatives from every team except for the Washington Redskins in attendance, the University of Hawaii draft prospects had a good day.

Working out in Carson, Calif., today, wide receiver Greg Salas caught the football smoothly. NFL scouts had positive comments about his hands and route-running.

He has been assigned late second-round to early third-round grades by several NFL teams.

Baltimore Ravens wide receivers coach Jim Hostler attended the workout, too.

Meanwhile, safety Manny Silva posted a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash and a 42-inch vertical leap.

Silva, who's a former Oregon State player, may go in the later rounds.

And wide receiver Kealoha Pilares had a 40 1/2 inch vertical leap, a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash and a 10-5 broad jump.

Hawaii running back Alex Green had a strong Pro Day workout, displaying sound hands and smooth cuts as four running back coaches observed.

Ravens running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery as well as running backs coaches from the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Green has upcoming visits to the Eagles, St. Louis Rams and the Tennessee Titans, according to his agent.

Green stood on his combine numbers, which included a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash.

At the workout, Green drew compliments for his cutting ability.

He's regarded as an ascending player. Here's a link to his highlight video.

Green led the nation last season with an 8.2 average per carry and scored 17 tuchdowns.

He's the first running back to rush for 1,000 yards for Hawaii since 1992, gaining 1,199 yards this season.

He played in the East-West Shrine game.

As a junior, he rushed for 453 yards and two touchdowns.

Shanahan got burned by Ashley Lelie, and I think he won't draft a WR (or any player) from Hawaii ever again. Just a hunch though.

EDIT: Then again, Shanahan didn't work out Cutler one time the year he drafted him, so Redskins not attending a workout is pretty meaningless.

1. Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

To be honest, I hate this pick. You hire a defensive minded coach and yet the Panthers are entertaining the notion of taking either Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton over some highly talented D talent and a pretty good looking WR in A.J. Green. But here's the deal and it can be summed up in 2 often used draft cliches.
(1) "With new regimes come new quarterbacks"
(2) "If you need a franchise QB and have an opportunity to take a franchise QB, you must take him. Franchise QB need trumps all other needs"

Both are generally true. What makes this a sad choice is the fact that the Panthers drafted both Jimmy Clausen and Tony Pike last year. I haven't been a big Clausen supporter but to scrap the kid after one season with a lame duck coach and a team full of injuries and issues doesn't make much sense. Let's not forget that Clausen wasn't even supposed to see the field. Matt Moore was supposed to be the guy while Clausen developed.
I'm picking Newton over Gabbert because of the "Vick" factor that Newton brings. He'll sell jerseys and put butts in seats as the crowd "ooooh's and ah's" as Newton avoids rushers. Plus Newton is good in front of the camera.

Alternate Picks:
Blaine Gabbert
Marcell Dareus

2. Denver Broncos: Marcell Dareus, DT/DE, Alabama

The Broncos could still take Von Miller here and I wouldn't be too surprised but I think Dareus would be the choice. What many forget is that when the Panthers were an elite team not only did they have Peppers but they had a guy like Kris Jenkins dominating the inside. With a healthy Dumervil and Robert Ayers moving back to a 4-3 scheme, the D line for Denver could be one of the Broncos stronger assets.

Alternate Picks:
Patrick Peterson
Da'Quan Bowers
Nick Fairley
Von Miller

3. Buffalo Bills: Von Miller, OLB/DE, Texas A&M

I still argue that the Bills biggest needs are on the D side of the ball. I also think that the Bills really want Cam Newton over Blaine Gabbert to draw fan interest and sell tickets. With Newton gone, the Bills start to focus on their D. While they need interior D-line help, they go after Miller who many consider one of the safer picks in this draft. Miller can be the 3-4 OLB that they hoped to get when they drafted Aaron Maybin back in '09.

Alternate Picks:
Blaine Gabbert
Patrick Peterson

4. Cincinnati Bengals: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

I'm basing this pick primarily on Mike Brown and the trends that the Bengals usually make. This could be multiple players here. Nick Fairley makes sense based on his potential and possible character concerns. We also know that the Bengals could use a #1 WR and A.J. Green or Julio Jones could fit the bill. I'm making this pick because of the money factor. Johnathan Joseph is a free agent (if and when we ever see a new CBA) and Chad Ochocinco is still under contract, part of me really doubts that Brown will cut #85 before his contract is up and is doubtful to spend the big money on Joseph to keep him in Cincy. So they draft a rookie to replace him. Now if only Peterson could get in trouble he'd be a perfect fit for the Bengals.

Alternate Picks:
Nick Fairley
A.J Green
Julio Jones

5. Arizona Cardinals: Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri

I can't see Gabbert getting past the 5th spot in the draft. While I see the Cardinals looking at a Marc Bulger to come in and have a Kurt Warner career revival, Gabbert would make the most sense to fill the void at franchise QB. The Cardinals do have some needs at D and if either Von Miller or Patrick Peterson were still available they could be serious options. Since they aren't in this mock, I'm going QB.

Alternate Picks:
Prince Amukamara
Robert Quinn

6. Cleveland Browns: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
Colt McCoy needs weapons and while the D-line is a top priority, this draft is deep with D-linemen but limited in WR talent. The Browns go with the #1 WR here. Julio Jones is also a possibility if the Browns like his more physical skill set. If the Browns go D expect Nick Fairley, Da'Quan Bowers or Robert Quinn as possible options.

Alternate Picks:
Julio Jones
Nick Fairley
Da'Quan Bowers
Robert Quinn

7. San Francisco 49ers: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

One of the best players on the board is a player they can use to fill a serious need. Some consider Amukamara to be a better prospect than Peterson depending on scheme.

Alternate Picks:
Robert Quinn
Aldon Smith

8. Tennessee Titans: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
The Titans have been looking for the next Albert Haynesworth since Haynesworth bolted to the Skins to lay on the field, mope, complain and make $32 million for doing very little. Fairley could be that guy. Extremely talented and explosive, Fairley reminded me of Albert Haynesworth during the BCS Championship game. He also reminds me of Haynesworth when it comes to character concerns. Still, the Titans get a major upgrade on the D line.

Alternate Picks:
Da'Quan Bowers
Cameron Jordan
Jake Locker

9. Dallas Cowboys: J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin
I just can't see the Cowboys taking an O-lineman at #9. It's not splashy enough for Jerry Jones. Plus, taking a guy with LT potential in Tryon Smith but never played LT at USC just doesn't make sense. Watt would replace Anthony Spenser at DE in the 3-4.

Alternate Picks:
Cameron Jordan
Jimmy Smith
Tryon Smith
Anthony Castonzo

10. Washington Redskins: Robert Quinn, DE/OLB, North Carolina

To be honest, I think that at #10 Julio Jones will be the pick. But the Redskins won't be the team making said pick. I still think the Skins will be trading back with St. Louis or another team, but if they stay at #10 Robert Quinn should be the guy. He looks like he'll be able to transition to OLB and would be a dominating force on the other side of Brian Orakpo.

Alternate Picks:
Julio Jones
Cameron Jordan
Aldon Smith
Jake Locker
Tryon Smith

11. Houston Texans: Aldon Smith, DE/OLB, Missouri
It's top priority for the Texans to address their D (moving from 4-3 to 3-4). If they don't have the right personnel, they can expect to be at the bottom of the league in D just like the Skins were in 2010. Smith is a raw talent but should be able to be a powerful pass rusher in the 3-4.

Alternate Picks:
Cameron Jordan
Jimmy Smith
Phil Taylor

12. Minnesota Vikings: Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
The Vikings are a bit of a wild card in this spot. They really need to find a starting QB with the retirement of Brett Favre. They also may need O-line and D-line help with age and free agency affecting the team. Da'Quan Bowers would be a good replacement for Ray Edwards if his knee is healthy and the coaching staff believe he'll be more than a one year wonder.

Alternate Picks:
Cameron Jordan
Jake Locker
Tryon Smith
Anthony Castonzo

13. Detroit Lions: Tryon Smith, OT, USC
The Lions had two years to find starting OT prospects to protect #1 draft pick Matt Stafford and have passed on them for other players (2009- Michael Oher, 2010 Russel Okung/Trent Williams). In both years, Stafford has headed to the IR. This year they can not pass on a guy who should eventually be protecting his blind side for the next 5-10 years. This is a bad year to look for an elite tackle prospect, but of all of them Tryon has one of the bigger upsides. Incredibly athletic, Tryon will have to learn a position he never played in college: Left Tackle.

Alternate Picks:
Anthony Castonzo
Nate Solder
Jimmy Smith
Akeem Ayers
Justin Houston

14. St. Louis Rams: Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

Like I have said before, I really believe that the Rams may try to trade down to grab Jones. If somehow that doesn't happen or if he doesn't fall to #14, expect the Rams to target a DT.

Alternate Picks:
Corey Liuget
Muhammad Wilkerson

15. Miami Dolphins: Mike Pouncey, G/C, Florida

Surprise! I bet you thought I would have take the safe bet and picked Mark Ingram. Yes, the Dolphins have 3 RBs in free agency and yes, they have no problem drafting a RB high in the 1st. That said, this is a real deep draft for RBs and the Dolphins will try to improve their interior so whoever is there running back has holes to run through.

Alternate Pick:
Mark Ingram

16. Jacksonville Jaguars: Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue
Word of mouth is that that the Jags are high on DE Ryan Kerrigan who fits a need and displays the high character traits that G.M. Gene Smith looks in players. Don't be surprised however if they take a QB here however. The Jaguars are very good at the unexpected.

Alternate Picks:
Jake Locker
Christian Ponder
Cameron Jordan

17. New England Patriots: Cameron Jordan, DE, California
What a steal for the Pats here. Why is it that talented players just fall right into the Pats. lap? I am a huge fan of Cameron Jordan's work. He destroyed most of the senior tackle prospects at the Senior Bowl. Jordan could fit in either a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme but he should do well with the Patriots as good run stuffer who can penetrate and cause pressure on the the QB.

Alternate Picks:
Akeem Ayers
Justin Houston
Mark Ingram
Muhammad Wilkerson

18. San Diego Chargers: Muhammad Wilkerson, DT/DE, Temple
The Chargers are in a similar situation as the Pats in that they could use some upgrades on their D-line and OLB positions. What is the most intriguing thing about the Chargers currently is that they look like they are trying to trade up with New England to get their #28 pick. Are the Chargers trying to make a big jump up the 1st round or just see another player that they want at #28 who won't be there at #50 (their next pick)? Wilkerson should be an ideal run stuffer as a 3-4 DE and has been rising on many draft boards.

Alternate Picks:
Akeem Ayers
Justin Houston

19. NY Giants: Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College
I just can't see Castonzo getting past the Giants at #19 despite my gut telling me that the Giants would rather draft a D-lineman. The trend tells me it should be a DT but I think the Skins will draft Castonzo in at LT and then move a player like Will Beatty around to fill other needs on the line. Still wouldn't be surprised if they went D-line here though.

Alternate Picks:
Marvin Austin
Corey Liuget
Gabe Carimi

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa
Bucs need pass rush help and Clayborn at this point in the draft is the best player on the board at the position. The Bucs could look at LB at this point as well with Akeem Ayers and Justin Houston still on the board.

Alternate Picks:
Justin Houston
Akeem Ayers
Brooks Reed

21. Kansas City Chiefs: Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor
Scott Pioli has been focusing a majority of the Chiefs 1st rounders on D line. Taylor could make that line elite with his addition. If they don't go after Taylor, the Chiefs have many other positions to fill including OL, OLB and WR

Alternate Picks:
Justin Houston
Brooks Reed
Gabe Carimi
Torrey Smith

22. Indianapolis Colts: Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
Bill Polian has been arguing that the O-line has been a hinderance to the team's success for the past few seasons. The Colts draft Solder to help improve those efforts. Also, what would make free agent Peyton Manning more happy than to have the Colts draft somebody who will protect him from being killed on Sundays. Manning probably want to play until he's 40 or until he's been the spokesperson for every big named product that does commercials during NFL games.

Alternate Picks:
Gabe Carimi
Derrek Sherrod

23. Philadelphia Eagles: Gabe Carimi, OT/OG, Wisconsin
Andy Reid usually likes to draft either O-line or D-line in the 1st round and the O-line clearly needs some help. Carimi immediately comes in and can play a position. The good news for Eagles fans is at worst Carimi is a 3 position (RG, LG, RT) player at the NFL level. I really like Carimi and think he might be one of the better O-line prospects in the draft. Seems to be very blue collar and tough. Almost reminds me of some of the Skins during The Hogs era.

Alternate Picks:
Jimmy Smith
Brandon Harris
Derrek Sherrod

24. New Orleans Saints: Akeem Ayers: LB, UCLA
The Saints could use a DE here but many of the top DEs here are more tweeners than more classic DEs. Gregg Williams seems to like the bigger DEs who can run contain as well as pass rush. That said, I chose Ayers here. The Saints are at a need for LBs and Ayers could be like Marcus Washington was in his scheme with the Skins: A LB in run and short pass situations and a pass rusher in 3rd down and other passing situations.

Alternate Pick:
Justin Houston

25. Seattle Seahawks: Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois
I just don't see Jake Locker drafted here because if they do this not only have they spent a 3rd (and a hefty contract) on Charlie Whitehurst but then a 1st (and a somewhat hefty contract) on another QB who will need time to develop. More or less they are going to be in the same situation. Liuget on the other hand has value at this pick and is probably a day 1 starter.

Alternate Picks:
Jimmy Smith
Marvin Austin

26. Baltimore Ravens: Brandon Harris, CB, The U (Miami)
This is a tricky pick because the last few drafts both myself and Raven fan (and occasional IIWII contributer) have suggested the Ravens either address the WR or CB position. Each time, GM Ozzie Newsome goes in a totally different direction (2009- Michael Oher, 2010 traded out of the 1st eventually drafted Sergio Kindle and Terrence Cody). Newsome goes by value and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him take RB, Mark Ingram here. But since I'm focusing more on need I went with The U's Brandon Harris.

Alternate Picks:
Jimmy Smith
Torrey Smith
Derrek Sherrod
Any player that has fallen and is of high value

27. Atlanta Falcons: Justin Houston, DE, Georgia
The Falcons are looking for a DE and Houston could provide some nice speed on the other side of John Abraham. If Houston isn't there look for the Falcons to taget the BPA on their boards at either DE, WR or OL.

Alternate Picks:
Brooks Reed
Torrey Smith
Derrek Sherrod
Danny Watkins

28. New England Patriots: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
Another top pick falls into the Patriots lap. This is how the draft game is played and the Pats do tend to find ways to excel in the process. Ingram will help develop some play action and protect Tom Brady. Also, the Pats will be able to have a better TOP by running out the clock with a run after taking a big lead with Tom Brady's passing game.

Alternate Picks:
Danny Watkins
Brooks Reed

29. Chicago Bears: Danny Watkins, OG, Baylor
The Bears have invested some serious draft picks and money into QB Jay Cutler, but if Cutler is injured or on his back that investment is useless. While the Bears could use an upgrade on the D-line, they must address their O-line if only to keep Cutler standing upright.

Alternate Picks:
Derrick Sherrod
Marvin Austin
Greg Little

30. New York Jets: Stephen Paea, DT/NT, Oregon St.
The Jets really missed Kris Jenkins on the D line last year and will look to replace him with a big, run stuffing tackle who can help collapse a pocket on occasion. If Paea is healthy, he should have no problem doing that with his strength. If they don't go this route, expect them to target a LB like a Martez Wilson or Brooks Reed.

Alternate Picks:
Martez Wilson
Brooks Reed

31. Pittsburgh Steelers: Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado
The Steelers have a serious need at the corner position and while Jimmy Smith has serious off field issues, the Steelers take him here to develop into a solid starting corner. The Steelers will hope to keep him out of trouble in the process. They could also target Aaron Williams at corner if Smith's off filed issues take him off Pittsburgh's board. The Steelers could also look at upgrading the O-line as well here.

Alternate Picks:
Derrek Sherrod
Ben Ijalana
Marcus Cannon
Aaron Williams

32. Green Bay Packers: Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St.
Despite winning a Super Bowl, the Packers will have some holes to fill in 2011. They could target OLB/DE Brooks Reed to provide a pass rush on the other side of Clay Matthews. They could use a WR like a Torrey Smith or a Randall Cobb to become Donald Driver's heir apparent. I think they'll target DE though to provide an interior pass rush and help improve the run D. Heyward should be a good fit for the team and the scheme.

Alternate Picks:
Brooks Reed
Torrey Smith
Randall Cobb
