I agree. I think he has the talent to be great but he is made of glass.

kind of how I look at it. I'll live with whatever they do...caveated by the feeling (and it's no more than that) that Shanahan is near the end of his opportunity window if he doesn't add a future franchise QB to the roster this year.

after 18 years...all one can say is "what the H!".....let's hope they stumble onto the correct solution this time around. I have learned there is simply no righteous path for this team. I defended Haynesworth and was wrong. I thought McNabb would be more than servicable...and was wrong. who knows.....my feeling that Sexy Rexy is Pop Warner talent at best is probably off also. time to just sit back...laugh at whatever results...and look forward to better days.

Former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton impressed NFL observers by running the 40-yard dash in fewer than 4.6 seconds at the Scouting Combine.

At least one veteran scout was far less impressed by his workout.

The scout, who works for a team that has no short-term or long-term need at the quarterback position, said that Newton “looks terrible.”

Opinions may very well vary. The reality, however, is that teams that love a player will be inclined to say bad things about him, both to throw other teams off the scent and in the hopes that the player will be available when the team uses its first draft pick. Teams that hate a player will be inclined to say they love a player, in the hopes that someone else will burn a pick on the guy, pushing truly coveted players farther done the board.
 
Digging around through various mocks, several "prognosticators" are pushing either Buffalo or Cincy grabbing Newton. Those still thinking Washington will go QB are either Locker or Gabbert-with Locker seeming to be more to Shanny's "taste" in a QB. Several have either Von Miller, Cam Jordan or A.J. Green or even all three available at #10 which would provide an interesting dilemma for the Skins in terms of a "kid in a candy store" scenario.

Of course, most of these mocks will be changing after everybody's digested the numbers and interviews from Indy so all this could change.

An aside here-the general consensus is that Ryan Mallet did the best "shoot yourself in the foot" media interview seen at the combine in a long time. :insane:

well...giving due to those who argue non-first round QB selections can succeed....Mallet in round two at our position would be the steal of the draft!
 
Well, Mooch was talking about Julio Jones on the NFL Network earlier and directed a comment right at Shanahan, "Pick Julio Jones Mike!" He feels after the Combine buzz Jones generated, he should be a no brainer for a team with such a need at WR.

Maybe that's why he is on the NFL Network and not in some NFL Front Office.

If he passes the physical, and the collective bargaining agreement allows for FA, i think i would rather have Sidney Rice, who is only 24.

His health worries me a little, but if healthy, and we resign Moss, we could finally put Moss in the slot full time. Rice, Moss and Rmstrong? That takes our WR's from mediocre to very, very good, and allows us to draft a lineman.

Of course, the new agreement won't be worried out before the draft, so God knows what will happen with FA, but I can dream.

I can't say I oppose this scenario since Rice has had the time to adjust to the NFL and we have so many other needs that have to be addressed. I would just hate to think we lose out on another top flight WR who should be another Andre Johnson.

...or could be Malcolm Kelly or Devin Thomas. I agree with you, if Rice is available, I think we need to make a big play for him. Rice, when healthy, was starting to show some serious big play ability. And he is 24. I seriously think he could grow and develop into a top 5 WR.
 
I can see us taking a defensive guy at 10 or trading back and gaining picks, with hopes of getting Ponder in 2nd round.
 
They were discussing Green & Jones and saying Green is a definite #1 WR, but Jones is only a #2. Not sure I'd take a #2 WR at 10th overall, but that's just me.

I was listening to NFL radio on the way to work this morning and the analysts/various personnel people interviewed were raving about Jones. not trying to be argumentative....just saying the guy's numbers are unbelievable, he perfomred superbly in pass catchng drills, and he was a top athlete on a top tier team.

who knows? I don't. What would be interesting: so we pick at ten....what if there are 4-5 studs available but not at positions of highest priority for the Skins. do they select the future star regardless?
 
Well, the talking heads always differ about what the guys will turn out to be in the NFL. But just remember - Darius Heyward-Bey blew everyone away at the combine also...

While I see what you are saying, I don't think it's fair to compare Jones to Heyward-Bey. A WR playing on a MD squad that won a total of 2 games in a weaker ACC, DHB shouldn't be placed in a class with a receiver from the SEC who has won a National Championship on a team that plays some of the very best CB's in College Football.

I know there is always that one player that creates a buzz at the combines, yesterday there were 2, Julio Jones and Stephen Paea. There has been much fanfare with Jones after his performance and I think his college career backs that up. Mariucci was slobbering over the kid. Some of the NFL analysts say he could be as good if not better than Green. I don't know, but his performance was impressive.

As for Paea, I wouldn't draft him just because he broke the bench press record in an amazing display of strength, but it does raise eyebrows since he was already a top rated DT.
 
One knock against Jones I've read from analysts is that he has a tendency to drop passes more often than other highly-rated WRs in the draft.
 
I also heard he struggles against physical CBs in press coverage.
