MMA: UFC, Strikeforce, etc.

Just a reminder of the great card tonight. GSP faces the toughest challenge of his entire career. If I still bet, and the odds were decent, I'd throw down a few bucks on Hendricks. Not a lot, as I believe GSP is in the top 3 of all-time, but a few.

I haven't felt that way about a GSP fight in the last 7 years. But this opponent is sensational.

The rest of the card has name appeal too. Chael, Koscheck, McDonald and Lawler. This should be an awesome one.

I have a feeling Johnny Hendricks might take this one, but his impatience is something that GSP usually capitalizes on...

Johnny Hendricks losing his mouth piece could have a huge effect on this fight. It gave GSP time to recover from being wobbled.

Hendricks did a great job tonight, but I am a purist...you have to convincingly beat the champ to be the champ. I am not sure Hendricks did that.

Good fight nonetheless.

Hendricks won that fight, I know letting it go to the judges is a curse for a challenger but people need to remind judges that titles can and have changed by decision.

As a GSP fan, I will readily admit that Hendricks not only won, but did so convincingly.

And I can't believe we're only about 3 weeks away from Weidman-Silva 2.

This fight is the first time that I can see it ending, in any one of the possible outcomes :

Unanimous by either fighter
Split Decision by either fighter
KO in any round, by either fighter
Submission in any round, by either fighter.

None of those outcomes would actually surprise me much.

I would be surprised to see anything other than what we saw the first time...except the antagonism by Silva. he will take this fight more seriously, but his diminishing skill set will not match Wiedman's. Wiedman is a younger, stronger fighter with 2 of the most effective weapons against Silva...reach and wrestling.

In case anyone is interested, UFC's Saturday December 7th Main Card is actually airing right this minute, due to the time difference in Australia, featuring

Heavyweight : Mark Hunt vs. Antonio Silva
Light Heavyweight : Maurício Rua vs. James Te Huna
Light Heavyweight : Ryan Bader vs. Anthony Perosh
Heavyweight : Pat Barry vs. Soa Palelei

If he decides to come back, it will be very difficult to get that belt back.
There will be a new champ, and most likely it will be Hendricks. And if and when GSP and Johnny fight again, GSP won't have the "champ advantage" if it comes to a decision. Hendricks will probably beat him next time, and perhaps even more decisively than the way their last fight appeared.

Tonight's Main Card

Flyweight :
Demetrious Johnson (c) vs. Joseph Benavidez
Bantamweight : Urijah Faber vs. Michael McDonald
Featherweight : Chad Mendes vs. Nik Lentz
Lightweight : Joe Lauzon vs. Mac Danzig

GO URIJAH !!
I want to see him get a re-match with Cruz, and down him !

Anderson Silva is done! Joe Theisman got nothing on that break! That was wicked!

I hate that ending, for multiple reasons.
Of course, the obvious reasons, I feel bad for Silva and his career.
But what else sucks, is there will still be so many doubters who say once again, Weidman got "lucky"
