Let's Get Back Into Second Round

I fail to see the connection between a 31 reading comprehension test and first day starter. pls amplify.

I'm posting things about our new guard - don't care to get into a back and forth in here - seriously - end of any argument. This info came from Gil Brandt. Feel free to contact him and ask that same question.

I'm back to positive. Sorry about that rant, but keep it away from me this weekend.

While some might argue that there were better offensive linemen to be had at #71, the fact of the matter is that as we approach the fourth round, none of these so-called "better" linemen are being taken by other teams either. That speaks volumes to me. Guys like Massie are still on the board as we discuss, yet we "should" have taken him. I don't get it. I'll leave it up to the guys who are employed in the league and live and breathe football to make the decisions. Meanwhile, I'll sit back and cross my fingers that Leribeus becomes part of something special for the next 10 years.

not upset (if you are referring to me). as I noted...it makes sense if play action/run is going to be the core strategy. otherwise......not losing any sleep over this pick.

Good post serv..but "short arms, slow, and struggles athletically" sounds like a missed opportunity in the third round.

I hope he kicks ass.

cmon now bubba....what does that mean? he has learned to stencil his initials onto his jock strap?

Did you listen to the interview? The kid appears bright, he does not shy away from the tough questions, has a quick wit and handled the interview with a comfort that would suggest he handles pressure well.

I still think we could have had him in the 4th, but what do I know? There were a few CB's still on the board who had early to mid 2nd round grades.

I was thinking more of Donald Stephenson. Massie did not seem to be a great fit for our ZBA, but I am surprised he has not been drafted by now. I am also very surprised Brandon Boykin has not bee drafted. Everything I had seen suggested he would be gone in the mid 2nd. I would like to have seen a CB taken with that pick and have taken the chance Leribeus would be there in the early 4th.

But you're right. I am just a guy reacting to a draft pick I did not know anything about. I'm just a poster on a website discussing that choice. Shanahan and Bruce Allen are much more qualified than I, but I am having fun with it.

Me too, El. Me too. My mocks look pretty bad right now, but I'll post 'em anyway. :)

Okay Shanny. Walk off the John Belushi pick in the third. Smoke a cigarette if need be.

Now come back and impress us please. :p

NFL Draft Scouts. CBS Draft Scouts. Walter Football.

Edit: I do like to hear about his nasty streak. One of the things I always liked most about the Patriots is their offensive line always went out to punish and sometimes after the play they would give a nice little shot. If this kid has a "nasty" streak, that is something I would like.

The point I'm making (and I'm right :)) isn't whether he was the best guy available per the experts (that's what you're referencing). I'm addressing the statement that he would've been available in the 4th. That's unknown - and I trust that the team has better insight/intel on that than we do.

Bottom line (and I mean no offense as I include myself in this assessment) - none of you knows much with regards to whether this guy can play or not. You don't. I don't.

Relax :)

At least we're drafting a big ugly to hopefully protect Griffin down the road. What's to bitch about? It's alllllll good.

Well on to round four and we have a chance to get a very good player early on - maybe another in the 4th as well. It was a surprising pick, but a good one when you think about it. Lich is questionable and the inside blocking for kicking was horrible last season.

The Redskins had a chance to see our new OL in Mobile and obviously spent a lot of time looking at film. Jarvis Jenkins made us skeptical for a short period of time and Josh LeRibeus is having the same effect. Let's hope that he doesn't have the bad luck of an injury in camp though. :)

On to round four.

Yeah, I got that. After watching the interview at the pro day that I posted, I gotta say I like the kid. Does that mean he's going to be a good G in the NFL? I don't know. But I still think we could have had him in the 4th. ;)

Hey, we're finally addressing the line, and that makes me smile. Honestly I don't care where this dude was supposed to be drafted. If he's a great fit for us because of our scheme then great! We got a guy that can play for us.

Just like Luck was rated higher than Griffin by just about everyone, our guys wanted Griff here, because he fits the mold of the type of player we want. If we had the first pick in the draft and took Griffin, how many of you would have been all that mad?

Not only that, but we got ourselves another pick. This is good. Be happy. :)

I hope the guy is incredible. A week from now though, when we can all stand back a little and evaluate (guess) objectively, I believe this is one we are going to wish we had back.

Our guard missed the entire 2010 season due to weight issues. The entire year.

He ballooned up to 380 pounds. He wasn't great academically. Played for a small school/questionable opposition, and has a lot of physical questions. And his blocking ability is listed as a weakness.

That reads like a gamble you take in the sixth or seventh, and then don't really care when he doesn't work out.

That doesn't sound like a third rounder. But I'm no expert. I hope he's great.

I'm with those saying we wanted the Redskins to draft an OL player and they did. Will he succeed? Who knows, but you don't really know that for most players at this level of the draft. I'll play wait and see and hope that he's everything we want/need from a guard.
