Laron Landry. More rippled than Robert McCune ?

I won't be surprised if he plays lights out for the Jets all 16 games this season, nor will be I surprised if he is off the field and on IR by Halloween.

If he is healthy though, my guess is we see some huge numbers from him. Ryan uses his Safeties as well or better than any DC in the game today and I don't know that he has ever had a talent at SS like a healthy Landry.

Read those re-tweets. They were the ramblings of morons. We know, but rarely acknowledge that part of the fanbase. Landry plays for the least-common denominator because it's all he has.

That's the point, Neophyte.

We have had enough of players that are hit or miss on whether they are going to be able to stay on the field for us.

This team has to be among the league leaders in starters games lost to injury over the past couple of years.

While a lot has changed in the NFL since Gibbs I, the one thing I keep going back to is that his core veterans were very durable.

While everyone misses some time during a long career, players like Jacoby (12 years), Coleman (16 years), Warren (15 years), Green (20 years), Monk (14 years), Bostic (12 years), etc. were able to overcome injury problems and return to the starting lineup.

Landry has missed most of the past 2 seasons and has shown no willingness to work with the team doctors or medical staff in regards to rehab of his original injury.

The fact he has not been able to get back on the field using his own alternative methods has only cost him money and credibility with the team.

The Jets are taking a flyer on him, much as the Redskins are doing on a less expensive scale with Cedric Griffin.

If the player can actually get on the field and play 12-16 games then the gamble paid off. If not, the team moves on in 2013.

But Laron never received the multiyear deal he was looking for.

That vindicates the Redskins original position last offseason - let's see him perform first.

Already over him. Moved on and thinking about the team - the team that we have now.

Gotta feel for SL though - she really is a fan.

Oh, no argument, Bulldog. I am not saying we made a mistake at all. I might have given him an offer on the chance his alternative treatment actually worked but it wouldn't have been as much as the Jets offered and I am not complaining that we let him go.

I absolutely agree that we currently have an issue with lost games among starters due to injury. We have got to get more durable in the starting 24 (counting the kicker and punter here) and Landry's recent history does not indicate he fits that need.

Not going to arbitrate this one....seems to me there are valid viewpoints all around, but that's not really the issue or my concern here. I'd like to think we're all cool with honoring specific personal requests among our fellow board members, and leave it at that.

Gracias, all.

Yeah, but we got Meriweather too, don't forget.

Safety in numbers? :)

(thanks, btw)

Yeah, that's kinda where I was going with that... :)

So right now, we have Gomes, Doughty, Merriweather and Griffin? Any guesses as to what the depth chart will look like?

It really isn't a tough job around these parts, CT. Most of the time the members moderate themselves.

Oh I know, that's why I dig this joint so much...low B.S to quality post ratio. In fact this place is so well behaved that on the odd occasion someone does get out of line I almost cringe for them...it sticks out so blatantly. I was just lamenting the policing of fights in general on message boards, nothing I hated more. Pretty ironic considering how grumpy I got near the end of my last stint as an admin. ;)
