Man, talk about target rich.
Very true, but if we're looking at singular games then it was the Defense that cost us wins against both Detroit and Cincinnati. And probably one of the Cowboys games.
Point being that if the Defense had stepped up earlier in the season then we wouldn't have NEEDED to win that Giants game. Or the Panthers game. Or the Arizona game.
With all due.............poppycock. Absolutely nothing that happened before this past Sunday mattered. Spilled milk. Whatever.
Win and you're in (barring a tie). The offense pooped in their britches, and then played in it.
Wasn't it an interception by Kirk that ruined our chances in the 1st Dallas game?
Didn't the offense fail to score TD's early in the Cincy game? Wouldn't that have meant we wouldn't have NEEDED the missed field goal in overtime to win it? As is often the case, stats are cherry picked nonsense used to argue a point after simply failing to get the job done?
Stats aren't flowery shrubs. They're facts. Hard cold facts.
Jay Gruden is a loser head coach. Fact, right?
Cousins interception ended any hope of the playoffs this season. Fact, yes?
All the pretty passing numbers failed to put us in the playoffs. Fact, yes?
But facts and stats always need context.
Of course they do. when it suites one's argument.
I totally agree that we put up lots of fancy yards, but we under performed in the redzone and in scoring. Not arguing that the offense could and probably should have done better.
Good. Cause it's a losing argument.
However what you're doing is taking individual games totally out of the larger context.
Yes, and you're lumping them all together because you know that individually your assertions don't hold up half as well as they do lumping them together. Thereby skewing the results to favor your argument.
The FACT is that this team scored more than enough points on average acorss the season to win more games. But the Defense left us in holes to large to climb out of. Including needing a run at the end of the season to make the playoffs.
Horse Hockey! Your stats whitewash the FACT that some of those points the offense scored were due to the defense getting a turnover. Or that some of the points pinned on the defense were due to our turnovers. Some points were given up by the offense. Some of the points given up were by the special teams. And over 100 point came from three games against the Packers, Bears, and Browns. Talk about padding stats.
We didn't make the playoffs not simply because we lost to the Giants. But because we lost to the Steelers, the Cowboys, the Lions, the Cardinals, the Panthers etc. And honestly in alot of those games it was the Defense that was subpar, not the offense.
Wrong. If we beat the giants last Sunday, we are in the playoffs. Even with losing all those other games. That's a FACT you choose to ignore.
We ranked 12th in points gained per game across the season. Only 5 of those teams are from the NFC.
Ranked on the POINTS we scored alone we'd be the fifth seed. But we're not. Because the Defense let the opposition score more points that.
No, because stats don't determine who makes the postseason, or what seed they are. Can't change the rules to fit your wishes, my friend.
The reason... we were 19th in points allowed per game. There are only 12 playoff teams. Our Defense was at least 7 places away from posting the requisite number to allow what our offense did to get us in.
It's really simple math.
No, it's statistical gymnastics. That's all you've got. But thanks for playing.
The defense was the reason we were IN those high pressure win or go home games in the first place.
You're getting cause and effect mixed up.
The EFFECT was that the Redskins offense messed the bed in an important game.
The CAUSE was that we were in that position in the first place because our Defense couldn't come though all year.
No, you're mistaking hocus pocus for reality. Because your argument, based solely on cherry picked stats, is weak.
