He's piled up a stack load of evidence in his favor, and after tonight, he's gonna for sure pile up a stack of money now. Given history, I'll still worry about it, but it feels pretty dang good seeing such good QB play for a change.

Kirk Cousins is a 27 year old man and this is his 4th season as an NFL QB with 3 full uninterrupted NFL offseasons under his belt. People seem to forget that he also had 2 previous failed opportunities to become the starting QB of the Washington Redskins and was benched each time. I left Peyton Manning off the list... I was only trying to pick guys I thought would play at a consistently high level the next 3-5 years. Apparently, I inadvertently left Phillip Rivers off the list, too. I was doing this off the top of my head.

I think I made a solid case... I won't argue with anyone who wants to put Cousins in the 18-22 range of NFL quarterbacks, but if you are looking at him as a top 15 QB... I can't see that. Not at all. If you want to take 2-3 guys off the list, I still think you'd have a hard time putting him in the top 15.

Cousins QB rating is now 99.2 for the season with 26 TDs, 11 INTs, and a 69.5% completion percentage. As impressive as that sounds, check out his numbers for December: 121.1 QB rating, 11 TDs, 1 INT, 72.8% completion percentage. These numbers are off the charts. Has he gotten help from the great Desean Jackson and Jordan Reed? Of course, but keep in mind he is doing this in his first season as a starter. The fact that he is 27 is completely irrelevant. He still has very little experience as a starter, and has never had the benefit of an offseason as the starter.

Cousins' play right now is top 5 in the league. If you still think there are 17-21 QBs that are "better" than him right now, you have a severe case of Grassisgreenerontheothersideofthefenceitus.

Cousins never had a fair chance to be the quarterback here until this season.

Every other year he was out there as a 'fill in' for Griffin and all of the attention was on when Griffin would get back on the field.

You can't put a guy out there and give him 3-4 games and then say at such a critical position as QB that you can write him off if he doesn't light up the scoreboard.

Cousins had the requisite intelligence and arm to be an NFL quarterback and warranted a more extended look, which he finally received.

We were VERY close to having another Trent Green situation on our hands where we help develop a pro bowl quarterback for another team.

The rub on Kirk all season long has been that teams will force him to beat them by stopping the run, and we cannot win if he throws it 45 times. Well, I hope that argument can finally be put to rest. Perhaps we don't win a playoff game, the lack of run game is likely going to hurt us in the playoffs, but I hope the detractors can put aside their fallible notion that Cousins cannot win the game. He's proven you wrong.

Just don't call this Redskins squad a smashmouth offense. They have a lousy running game and Gruden knows it. He put nearly the entire gameplan on Cousins on Saturday night, calling 46 throws. That's the kind of trust Cousins has inspired in his coach, although it's taken time to build that confidence. Even Cousins admits he used to struggle with belief.

The Redskins offense is built for the pass.

The line pass blocks better than it run blocks.

The skill players on offense that create big plays are Reed and Jackson.

The most consistent down to down performer is Garcon.

Thomas has now added another dimension as a receiver out of the backfield.

And Cousins has had a remarkable season.

The Morris-Jones-Thompson triumvirate at running back is going to undergo some serious change in the offseason.

We need to find a running back that can turn the corner on a defense with the ball in his hands and also be a credible receiver in the passing game.

I've said it before and I'll say it now: if we draft a Lineman every year in the first round in perpetuity, I would be thrilled. As we saw this year, YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH DEPTH ON THE LINES.

Yes he has. But no, I'm thinking the thread has legs as long as Kirk is still in "Development" mode. At some point down the road we'll know when he's maxed out ... but I think that's a good 2-3 years down the road still.

I think it was ESPN but it might not have been but they had comparison between cousins 4th season and Brady, Peyton, Brees and Rogers and cousins was close to Brady in terms of numbers but all except Rogers had started more than 1 season

I don't think it's been mentioned, but to put into perspective how great Kirk has been, he has put up all these great passing numbers in the last 10 or so games, with VIRTUALLY NO running game, to support him or play off of.
Not sure how many QB's could do what he's done, with our lack of rushing, and knowing a pass is coming, most every play.
It's like having one of those rushing attacks, where it's so powerful, like a Riggo & Hogs, that the defense still can't stop you, even when they know exactly what specific play is coming.....except instead of rushing and the Hogs, it's the Mighty Kirk and the air ball.

Should the Skins empty the wallet? *ell no.

I want to see him beat a quality defense in a tight game. I want to see him carry a team when a Jordon Reed or Djax is not playing....that...in my mind...is where you invest the really big bucks. I want to see him carry a team when he is under constant pressure.

his progress this season has been impressive.
