Maybe. I still think SP and Boone are right. Scot isn't going to wildly overpay. We'll make a reasonable offer, and if Kirk doesn't like it, we'll go with a rookie and a cheap vet.

If he weighs too many factors, I think he's gone. Money is the biggest factor, and family life would be the next factor... However, as a career decision, there are probably better teams out there to associate yourself with than the Redskins. I'm not sure Cousins would want to spend his time learning his 3rd system under his 3rd HC (if that's what happens)... Regardless, I agree with what you say above.

I think it's probably valuable to breakdown of the NFL offseason calendar and when things have to shake out:

March 7th - Franchise tag deadline - No reason for Cousins or Agent to accept anything less than $20M prior to this date. Hopefully, the Redskins have a hard decision and Kirk Cousins proves he's worth considering at this rate. If he is, the deal gets done quickly after the season ends. Just to reiterate, when I say he gets $20M in the 1st season, that doesn't mean he averages $20M over the life of the contract. I couldn't see him averaging more than Nick Foles or Sam Bradford (around $13M) at this point, but it's the upfront guaranteed money that I'm talking about. That's the only money that really matters to the player.

March 7th-12th - Teams can negotiate with their own players before Free Agency negotiating period begins. Cousins & Redskins might be able to negotiate a reasonable deal here, but this will probably be a time when both sides put on their poker faces...

March 12th-15th - Free Agency negotiating period begins, but no signings can occur unless you sign with your team. I think this is probably best possible spot for Cousins to get signed, if the team still wants him. If they don't sign him before March 15th, he is probably on his way out the door.

March 14th (maybe 15th) - Robert (if he's still on the team) gets his physical.
March 15th - League year & Free Agency period begins...
 
No way he gets franchise type money from anyone unless he absolutely lights it up the rest of the year, in which case we can rejoice when the team signs him to whatever the contract ends up being. Barring that, no team in the league is giving him franchise type money. If he continues on this year as he has so far, he's a still a project at best, and in reality just a backup. We might roll another season with him if we can't come up with anything better, or another team out there may be willing to, but not for any significant money in that eventuality. He doesn't have leverage to garner franchise type money because he's no where close to demonstrating he's that guy.

Belichick was also highly complimentary of Cousins when the Skins practiced against the Pats in the offseason. He singled out Cousins, rather than RG3, so it's more than just coach-speak

guess we'll find out this Sunday. technically not off-season.....training camp.

must be why the Pats and other teams expressed interest during the off-season on Kirk's trade status.

9 tds and no pics in the redzone in 7 games is actually pretty damn good. I'm not sure how to find the stats, but I'd be willing to bet that's top 5 in the nfl, at least top 10.
 
How many trips to the red zone have we made?

Also, he has 9 total touchdowns...

As a team we have 14 total touchdowns.

That is an even scarier stat because it seems he isn't throwing anything for a td deeper than 20 yards.
 
Well I think losing Jackson in game 1 has had a big effect on that. I'm not sayin Cousins has been fantastic, but it's hard to deny those are damn good numbers in the redzone.
 
sure...the lack of interceptions is nice.

I guess my point is if we have 4 trips to the red zone and get 9 TDs it is pretty damn good. But if we have 20-25 trips to the red zone and only have 9 TDs it changes it for me.

I know Serv can find that type of shit but my googling skills are nowhere near his.

Scoring 9 TD's in 4 possessions would be ****ing amazing.

It's possible to take any stat and spin it negative if one wants to bad enough.

I know what these numbers mean to me, though, and they came as a surprise when I saw them.

What I watch for in the Red Zone is the play call. Take the last game. I was screaming "its all about the play call, the play call" just before we lined up with 4 wr to left side. Right then I could see the play call made the execution easy. I knew it was going to be a TD on account of the confusion on the Defense. That's where good coaching comes in.

As for Pete Carroll, he still won't admit his play call mistake in the superbowl. My feeling is Gruden wouldn't have done the same, he would take the blame. That's what a leader does.
 
Heard a stat today that the Redskins have allowed either the least or 2nd least amount of sacks.
