Such a humble, quiet guy. I got a meet him a few times, but the time that stuck out to me the most was in the Tysons Corner mall of all places. That past Sunday we had just played a brutal game against Buddy Ryans Eagles. I was standing outside a store looking in the window and Art came up to gaze as well. He had a bit of a black eye. I knew he probably didn't remember me so I just said "Hell of a game you played on Sunday" and looked at me and said. "But we didn't win" and walked off. THAT was Art Monk.

This is wonderful. I had a poster of the Posse when I was a kid, and all three of them are my favorites, but especially Art Monk. I remember him breaking the receptions record and the fight to get his gold jacket. He was second only to the GOAT Jerry Rice as the best of his era. This honor is well deserved.

I also really appreciate all that the team is doing to honor our legacy. Things like retiring #28 and #81, the Super Bowl throwbacks, the Wetzel logo exhibit, naming the Beathard draft room, etc. tell me the team cares about preserving its history, which means a lot to a longtime fan like me.

He is still the class act he always was as a Redskin!

So ridiculous that it didn't happen after he retired in 95 or at least after he was elected to the HOF in 08.

Effing Snyder. Thanks for getting it done Josh!

Don't really disagree with the sentiment, but in all honesty, no numbers were retired for like seven decades. There were a few including Monk's that were never used.

Who will be next ?

I had that poster - if it was the one with the horses and the tied up Cowboys.

I took it to College in '95 at USC with me. My roommate who I hadn't met yet arrived later and saw it on the wall when I was out getting a bite top eat. He told me later that he knew he was either gonna hate me or we would become buds trash-talking each other. He was an Eagles fan. We ended up good friends.

I loved that poster but lost it somehow in young adult life that moves so quickly. Last one that popped up on eBay I got outbid on. Gonna score another one day ...

This video is incredible and yes, I am tearing up here in my office. Longtime coming and rock solid proof we have someone who was, and is, and actual fan of this franchise in the ownership seat.

Not sure. Darrell Green and Art Monk had successful Redskin longevity, and all the accolades while being top notch teammates leaders and great people in general. They both should have had their numbers retired long ago.
