I have a feeling we will be somewhat like the Steelers. No one calls them the Steel or the eelers. Commies sounds like the name our rivals will call us like they used to do with Deadskins. Maybe a nickname will evolve, but I dislike Commies, Comms, and 'Ders.
It's not shorter, but I probably wouldn't hate Hail Raisers as a nickname.
Steelers, Bengals, Ravens, Texans, Broncos and Titans all are 2 syllable team names with no obvious 1 syllable nickname.
The 49ers are odd, because their nickname (9ers) IS 2 syllables.
** Chargers, I think some people call them the "bolts" but maybe not? So maybe add them to the list? I don't know enough about Chargers fans to know what they call the team.
Commanders, Cardinals, Buccaneers, are the 3 teams with 3 syllable names (excluding the aforementioned 49ers, which is 4.) The Cardinals (cards) and Buccaneers (bucs) have obvious nicknames.
The Commanders do not. I feel less strongly about this as a negative than the fact I have no idea what a commander looks like so we're stuck with a stupid W as the logo. If there's anything which irks me, that's what irks me.
I dunno, during the playoff run, I didn't really miss not having a short nickname.
