Is this run different - or when will the past be dead?

I follow this team about as closely as anybody, and I have literally no idea what the hell you're talking about.

There is this folktale that a Native American woman by the name of Susan Harjo set a curse on this team for as long as it bore the name Redskins. Some people liked to trot it out as an explainer whenever the ball would bounce the wrong way or why for thirty years Dan Snyder's team sucked.

As a fantasy writer, I would argue that changing the name broke the condition of the curse. Although if I were being sneaky, I might extend it saying that as long as the people held the name dear in their heart as its true name that curse, like a microbe waiting to multiply, survived.

In practical terms, while this team has felt cursed and reffed and screwed and any number of words, it was less a function of mystical curses and eldritch gods as bad teams playing without confidence and corrupt refs.

Perhaps the curse was Dan Snyder. Regardless of whether you believe that his ownership was due to the fulfillment of a curse or just the boyhood dream of a pretty terrible person realized, he was the core reason for continual failure since the late 90s.

The name being changed is IMO totally irrelevant to the cure for the broader problem which was Snyder's ownership. I think we can all agree on that?

I think it was the 2008 season, where we started 6-2 and finished 8-8, that finally broke me for good. Ever since then my outlook on the team and it's future has always been 'I'll believe it when I see it.' The occasional bright spot here and there has never been enough to convince me. I have been pretty pessimistic and grumpy for many, many years about this team, and I take lots of longs breaks from these boards. Very similar to what iheartskins talked about in his first post here.

So with all that said, I'm officially calling it. I'm seeing it. This is the Real Deal.

To have an Era of Greatness in this league, you need three things: You need an owner/GM, a coach, and a QB, and they all have to be on same page at the same time. That's here, Right now. It's not the skill players, or the defense, or the schedule, or anything else. We've had pro-bowlers on this team. We've had Franchise Quarterbacks come through here, more than once. We've had easy schedules. We've had years where we avoided the injury bug. We've had years where the ball bounced our way. Those things are not enough.

Whether through luck or really good ownership, we have stumbled upon that Golden Combination. We can ride that for a decade. And given the lack of elite QBs in our conference things could go VERY well here for awhile.

Though I will believe that when I see it. :)

2008?

I was calling it when Gibbs retired and that joke of a coach search went on. It was all LOLs from there, once again, just like it was from 2000-2003.

All it took was for the fool to sell the team and it took another 15 years.

This new situation might not even win Super Bowls either but we have a chance to at least do what the Bills or Packers have been doing, and that is probably the minimum expectation now instead of 8-8 and and lot of things to laugh about.

Casserly. Every single top draft pick was a bust. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
He was a competent scout, but had absolutely NO business being a GM.

That was my general feeling about him. Glad you pointed it out. A question though- was he involved with the Champ Bailey pick?

That was the ONLY good first round pick he EVER made. He found a few late round gems like Brian Mitchell, but sucked when it counted most. And he gave monster record contracts to Blubberfield and Wilkinson.

as one of the oldest franchises, what runs have we actually had besides Joe's pre free agency?

Post FA...one more win and its the greatest run weve ever had

Must be terrifying to live your life in fear of people able to lay curses
