I saw Henry was released last week and thought for sure he would be brought in with our decimated ends. Drake Jackson was them taking a shot at a younger guy with potential

It is beyond me that there hasn't been any attempts (that we are aware of) to raid teams PS's.

The issue with Jackson is he is a bet for next year. We will have no idea what he will look like until minicamp at the earliest.

Based on some of the scrub players that we have signed early in the week and elevated to active by Saturdays, we could have afforded to sign a WR, DE or DB to the active roster if they were young and had potential.
I think it’s a bit more difficult going that route just because you then have to actually cut someone, as opposed to using the weekly PS elevations, or signing someone to the PS and then elevating them once an injury occurs (like Burks replacing McCaffrey).

Of course, maybe their decision-making changes a bit once we’re officially out of the hunt and we move on from some older depth guys that aren’t likely to be here next year (George Fant, for example). We’ll see.

We've had a lot of guys hit IR in recent weeks. There are also useless no upside players like Preston Smith, Jalyn Holmes and Sheldon Day we could cut and bring in a young guy to give a shot too. Eddie Goldman has played well this season but he is a guy who has already retired twice. Why not go pluck a promising nose tackle

(I actually hope George Fant is here next year. I'd rather pay him the vet minimum than a guy who we know for sure can't play)

I'm of two minds here. The first is that we are so injured that we had to raid PS for players ready to step on the field now. The other is, the GM is supposed to also look at the future while the coach addressed the present, so if there is someone with interesting on someone's PS then why not take a shot or two?

I wonder what kind of gentleman's agreement teams have in regards the degree of PS raiding is permissable? You'd think the practice squads would be more fluid and in constant flux than they are which makes me think that there is an understanding about how far you can go. Then again, I guess the fact that you have to sign someone else's PS to your active roster probably does discourage teams from vulturing too many diamonds in the raw.

So I was reading more on the PS rules and found the NFL added a rule that is why there is not more raiding by other teams:

  • Protection rules: Each team can protect up to four players on its practice squad each week, preventing them from being claimed by other teams.

21 day window opened for Drake Jackson to return to the active roster
Wow there are a number of players getting healthy. If no one else gets hurt we could have a semi-normal active roster soon. I am interested to see if Drak can show anything.

Who knows, maybe even that supposed #1 WR could be healthy. While it could screw up our draft status, a few wins would bring back a lot for hee organization and DQ and AP.

I agree actually, particularly once we’re officially out of the playoff hunt, and those types are exactly what I meant as being replaceable.

I still think that while it’s very doable, it’s more difficult - you’re committing to the player for a few weeks vs a trial run on the PS, you don’t have time to get them up to speed (including on ST where they might be needed, depending on inactives), we have injured players taking up inactive slots (making it harder to put the new players there if need be), etc.

At minimum, I hope they start ditching the older PS guys.

Something else I just read about teams raiding others PS...
The Cowboys lost OT Geron Christian from the practice squad as he was signed to Denver's active roster," ESPN's Todd Archer wrote on X.
I guess he wasn't considered deserving of being one of the 4 they could protect lol. He was another wasted Washington 3rd rounder

I honestly think that because of the roster being so thin of legitimate good to great talent, sustaining numerous injuries is more or less mission impossible and you need 3-4 seasons of not only securing your starters, but also getting good depth behind them.

Thats great. Once they placed him on IR after signing him, I thought they just brought him here to rehab and contribute next season. The guy has taken 2 years to recover from a patella tendon surgery. I wonder what type of burst he will show but totally worth it to give him a lot of snaps to see what he has
