Howling for Howell

There's some talk that the Browns could be interested in trading for Brissett. I would do it. This season is not ending in a Superbowl. If Howell does get hurt I'm absolutely fine letting Fromm take over. An extra win or two isn't worth future capital during a lost season.
 
My only issue with that is Sam has called Brissett out as being a huge help and mentor. Trading Brissett now removes that apparently positive influence.
 
Yeah, I don't know how important that is or isn't given Brisett has not been able to be a successful NFL starter himself (although that could be more about innate ability than knowledge I suppose). What I'm seeing is that the Browns are not interested so it's probably a moot point.
 
Some nice praise from a guy who doesn't typically say a lot...

 
Sam Howell with decent protection is already a good QB.
 
I wonder what our record would be if we made line changes earlier in the season?
 
While I agree that the line is playing better, this isn't all because of those changes.

Howell is making better decisions faster. He is doing an excellent job of taking what the defense is offering whereas earlier in the year he is waiting on the long gainer.
 
Howell was fantastic today, except for 1 play. Which I’m still scratching my head over that one as I have no idea what he was doing. But otherwise he was great today.

There's a part of me that thinks he was trying to throw it away but because the pressure and being on the run he didn't get enough oomph on the ball. It's either that or a brain fart.

I was yelling throw it away. Put that ball into the 4th row. If that’s what he was doing, that was awful. I think maybe he was caught in between throwing it away and forcing it in and the result was ugly.

Doesn’t matter in the end and is a learning experience. He was great the rest of the day and they got the win.
 
Mac Jones was drafted 15th Overall and is halfway through Year 3 (40 games as a pro).

Sam Howell was drafted in the 5th round and has played 10 games.

Think about what you watched today and let that sink in.

It was a terrible throw but what we don’t know is what he was seeing (it certainly wasn’t the fan view from 100 ft above the playing field)? I really think we forget this at times. He’s an inch over 6’ and he’s got players all around him obscuring his view of the field. When we say we don’t know what he was seeing that’s more accurate than we realize. Not making excuses I’m just trying to add some context.
 
He said in his presser that he was trying to throw it out of the endzone but didn’t get enough on it.

He also said it was his worst play in his football career.
 
I did notice his throw aways in the 2nd half were no doubters. So he learned in game from that mistake.
 
Yep, it seems as if Howell is learning from his mistakes and improving.

Wonder what the issue is with Davis, Forbes, and a host of other players whose performances never seem to put them in that next higher echelon.

When your #1 pick gets 5-10 snaps like Forbes was getting against the Eagles, it's a problem.
 
Sam seems to be becoming more comfortable both on and off the field lately. In both of his last two pressers he has begun to show a bit more of his personality, being a little playful with the media.

Imagine an OL that isn't just blocking for Sam, but pushing the defense backwards where fewer hands up will bat down passes.

If anything, Sam has shown that he could be your planned QB1 next year for a new coach/gm that uses their assets to build that OL through the draft and FA.
