Having slept on it, I think my real problem with the D is the continued raft of blown assignments, leading to uncovered receivers. Over and over again. Usually on the biggest plays.
The pass rush as usual didn't materialize in the biggest situations ... no individual players stepping up and beating their man, no schematic adjustments to spring the occasional blitzer. But even on too many of those occasions, when the QB had time to pick and choose, it really wouldn't have mattered if we'd brought more heat. With the number receivers running uncovered through our secondary on key downs, he wouldn't have had to eat the sack or try to force a throw into tight coverage--with guys running free, without defenders within 5 yards, any NFL QB can get the rid of the ball for completions.
Not surprised on any level. This is Jim Hazlett defense. Always has been, and given the overwhelming evidence, apparently always will be.
